{As soon as Donate hears Dylan is all alone he knows something is wrong, he can't help it. With Dylan's abuse of drugs and how he jumped off of the bridge (that's what Donate would think when saving him). Donate would feel like Dylan is in trouble, that he is in danger. Being held hostage of his own thoughts.}

Now I know, it's got a hold
Just a phone call left unanswered, had me sparking up

{Donate would ring Dylan, not once, not twice. But around ten times. Just to check he is ok that he isn't at risk. And if he doesn't pick up then he is going over...if he isn't already heading/over at Dylan's.}

These cigarettes won't stop me wondering where you are

{Donate would smoke at random times, normally they work without a problem numbing small issues in his head, small problems and all. But they won't when he hears this.}

Don't let go, keep a hold

{I can see Donate saying this to Dylan, "don't let go, please...keep a hold. It'll be ok" as a way to say don't let go, you can hold on, it'll be ok I'm here to support you. Life is wonderful really...}

If you look into the distance, there's a house upon the hill

{If you look into your future, if you look up above the wall that is the obstacle in your life. There will be a house, a house that will support you. And Donate would be there for him.}

Guiding like a lighthouse to a place where you'll be
Safe to feel our grace 'cause we've all made mistakes

{ The house will be his lighthouse, the thing lighting up his path for his future. The thing that his light in his darkness. 'Where you'll be safe to feel our grace' All of them, Jace, James, Romèo they will all be there for him when Donate isn't or can't be. I can see Donate telling Dylan that. They've all made mistakes Donate close to tripping up and telling him about James or something.

{Donate will always be there for him, he will try his best to be the light for him, to hold him close and protect him

I also feel like the repeating of 'I'll leave a light on' is all of the obstacles they've climbed over, gotten through and helped each other through. The first one would be:

When Donate first found Dylan in his apartment close to overdosing and when he takes him into the hospital.}

{The next one would be when Dylan and Donate begin to argue, how it continues until they break down and go to see each other, Donate would probably beg for Dylan to believe him, apologising over and over.}

{This would be after they break up, how the two of them are destroyed by it. And when they both go out on the walk Donate be thinking about Dylan in his own world before crossing the bridge, he would stop as he saw Dylan running over to him even before he saw Dylan fall, Donate would just run out in front of cars not caring I can see him getting emotional even before he grabs onto Dylan's arm/wrist}

{This last one would probably be when they're laying in bed, Dylan/Donate curled up in the others arm as they promise each other not to leave. I can see Donate looking at him and saying 'I don't care if you cheat anymore...I know you don't want to...Just...Tell me when you do...' something like that before holding onto him}

Tell me what's been happening, what's been on your mind

{Donate wants to know why he does this. He wants Dylan to tell him everything. Everyday. How he feels, what's been happening, and what's on his mind right now. No matter how harsh or cute the truth is he wants to know.}

{How Dylan increased the intake of drugs and all, that's where the 'Lately you've been searching for a darker place to hide' comes in. Donate tells Dylan it's alright to drink, to smoke, and sometimes to use pills. But let him be there to support him when he does. To stop him when he uses too much.}

But if you carry on abusing, you'll be robbed from us.
I refuse to lose another friend to drugs

{'But if you carry on abusing, you'll be robbed from us' I know Donate would say this to Dylan when he is in hospital. He would tell Dylan 'I refuse to lose another friend to drugs' when finding him again at the bar.}

Just come home, don't let go

{Just come home, to Donate. And don't let go. Don't leave him. Donate needs Dylan and won't stop at anything to get him back if Dylan left him.}

{Every time Donate finds Dylan/Saves him. He knows Dylan is down and out. Knowing Dylan can't actually process the words he is saying or actually say what he would like to. But Donate needs Dylan to be brave, to pull through. Because in the end it'll all be ok.}

Hiding from the truth ain't gonna make this all okay

{Donate would say this to Dylan when he bumps into him with them all, probably yelling it at him. I can then see Dylan dropping the bomb by saying that he is cheating on Hannah.}

{Donate sees how hard it is for Dylan, he knows it's hard sometimes. And if Dylan doesn't feel like telling him or any of them and how he is about to loose it, Donate will wait.}

{'I fell by the wayside' would be how Donate feels when he sees the posts of the different people, feeling like Dylan doesn't care about him anymore. That's where the comment 'am I just a toy' came from with Donate. 'I hate you x3' would be how Donate would feel, but after the argument he would feel guilt. He doesn't hate Dylan he loves him.}

Our every moment, I start to replace

{When Donate starts to try and replace the moments he had spent with Dylan with Hannah and her friends with his, it doesn't work.}

'Cause now that they're gone, all I hear are the words that I needed to say

{Now that they memories are gone he can hear the words that he needed to say which are 'i love you' but he isn't saying it to the right people and he knows he is fooling (but failing) himself}

{'When you hurt under the surface' when Dylan is hurting, he can tell. He knows the look on Dylan's face and in his eyes. 'Time can heal, but this won't.' This won't is when they were arguing, but time can heal Dylan.}
