Chapter 7
I yawned as I woke up. I stared up at the face I had spray painted on the wall above my bed. I got up and sighed as I put on some jeans and a t-shirt. I put on my boots and sighed as I got up and walked out of my room. Kobra was playing with Bandit on the ground and I looked out to see Poison sitting on the hood of the car. I went out, sitting down next to him.
"Hey, you okay?" I asked.
Poison nodded, playing with something in his hands. I realized it was his wedding ring.
"You know, I think that Bandit deserves some new clothes," I said and he looked over at me. "Jet is the builder between us but I make and fix our clothes. I was thinking that maybe I could make her a princess dress to match her tiara."
"You would do that?" He asked.
"Yeah, of course I would," I said. "She's got me wrapped around her finger too."
Poison shocked me by wrapping his arms around me, pulling me in for a hug. I was a little shocked at first before hugging him back.
"Thank you for everything you've done for us," he whispered.
My heart was racing as I somehow forgot how to breathe. How do you breathe? Oh god, what the hell is happening to me.
Poison pulled away, slipping his wedding ring back on.
"Have you eaten?" He asked. "I was gonna make some eggs and toast for everyone but I wanted to wait until you woke up."
"Oh, you didn't have to do that," I said.
"No, it's okay," he said. "It's only fair that I make you some breakfast every now and then as a thank you for letting us live here for the past month."
"Thank you," I said.
"Now, how would you like your eggs?" Poison asked.
"Sunny side up," I said.
He smiled and nodded, walking inside. I sighed, watching him through the window as he picked Bandit up and gave her a kiss.
"Hey, Frank," Ray said, sitting beside me.
I grabbed his arm, pulling him to the side of the building.
"Remember when you dated that one chick?" I asked.
"Yes, I remember," he said.
"How did you know you liked her?" I asked.
"I don't know, I just kind of knew," he said. "Why?"
"I-I...no reason," I said. "Just wondering."
"You're into someone?" He asked.
"I don't know, I've never had feelings for someone before, I don't know what it's like," I said.
"Which brother is it?" He asked.
"Poison," I mumbled. "But I don't know if I am, I just know that I've been feeling weird and acting weird around him and I just don't know what the fuck is going on anymore."
"That's great, Frank, I'm glad that you're into someone and not completely emotionally stunted," Ray said. "It's best to just talk this out and be honest with the person you're into."
"But that's the thing, I can't do that," I said. "His wife died not long ago, I can't bring up us being together because I would be the total jackass who tried to get with the grieving widower."
"Yeah, that is a problem," he said. "Then just wait and see how you feel, maybe you aren't even into him. Just wait and see if anything happens naturally."
I heard footsteps and Poison came around the corner.
"Hey, I finished making food," he said.
We followed him in, the four of us sitting at a booth and eating together while Bandit played on the floor.
"Thanks for cooking, this is nice," I said.
Poison smiled at me and I blushed and looked down.
"So, I noticed we were running a little bit low on some food supplies," Poison said.
"Oh, maybe you and Ghoul could run out and grab some more from the motel," Jet said.
I looked up at him and kicked him under the table.
"Yeah, we could do that," Poison said. "If you want to go, Ghoul."
"Yes, I-I would love to go," I said.
He smiled and I ate quickly before cleaning my dish and going to the bathroom. I stared at myself in the mirror as I sighed before I used the toilet and walked on. I put on my holster and put my gun in it, grabbing the keys to the car. Poison was kneeling down in front of Bandit, giving her a hug and telling her goodbye.
We got into the car and I didn't say anything as we started driving. Poison looked out the window before turning his head. I could feel him looking at me. I knew he was smiling while he did it too.
"Hey, you okay, Ghoul?" He asked. "You've been acting a little funny."
"I am fine," I said. "Good, really good. Super. I am beyond super."
"Ghoul, what's wrong?" He asked.
Poison put a hand on my shoulder and I jumped, swerving the car a little.
"Jesus, Ghoul," Poison said.
I sighed and continued driving.
"What? What's wrong?" He asked.
"It's nothing," I said before looking over at the doubt on his face. "Seriously, it's nothing. I-I can't say, I can't tell you."
"Why not?" He asked.
"It's just something Jet told me," I said. "I can't tell you, I promised I wouldn't."
"Oh, okay," he said. "That's okay, I understand. Sorry for pushing you, I didn't know."
"No...don't," I mumbled. "Don't apologize."
"No, I feel bad now," he mumbled.
"Don't feel bad," I said. "You don't have to feel bad about anything, you didn't do anything wrong."
It was quiet the rest of the way to the motel. We went in and went shopping around for supplies, putting them in the cart.
"What's B's favorite color?" I asked.
"She seems to be particularly fond of the color yellow," he said.
I grabbed some fabric, which I was thankful they had. They weren't always the most stocked up on fabrics.
"Can you see what fruit there is?" I asked. "I've gotta ask Bones for something."
He nodded, walking away. I went over to the counter, smiling at Bones.
"Any chance you have tulle?" I asked.
"I don't know what the fuck that is," he said.
"Fabric," I said.
"All my fabric is where the clothes are," he said.
"You don't have any other fabrics in the back that are not shelved yet?" I asked.
Bones sighed, going to the back. I looked at the knick knacks displayed on the counter. There wasn't much interesting today. Although, there was something. It was a little silver locket. The price tag on it showed that I didn't have enough carbons for both groceries and the locket. I quickly shoved the locket into my pocket.
"Alright, this is the box of spools of fabric," Bones said, coming out with two boxes. "And this is our box of random scrap fabrics."
I searched through for the tulle before I finally found some white tulle. There wasn't quite enough so I grabbed some light pink tulle as well.
"Thank you so much, Bones," I said. "You will make a special little girl very happy."
I went over, putting the tulle in with the other fabric.
"They've only got some bananas, strawberries and oranges," he said. "But the bananas are already starting to brown so I don't know if we want to get those."
"You can pick," I said.
Poison looked at me but didn't say anything as he grabbed a couple oranges. We paid for the items before driving back to the diner. It was silent the whole drive, even as we unloaded groceries and I took Bandit's measurements before going up to the roof with the fabric. I sat there with the radio for a while, listening to music while planning out Bandit's dress.
I must've spent a few hours there because the next thing I knew, the sun was beginning to set and Jet was calling to tell me dinner was ready. I didn't move, though. I just kept cutting the fabric. I could hear someone climbing up the ladder before Poison sat next to me. He handed me a can of soup with a spoon.
When I didn't take it, he just set it down on the roof. He didn't leave. He just stayed sitting with me as he stared out at the desert. Neither of us said anything. It was nice, actually. I used my yellow thread to hand stitch the dress. It became too dark to work eventually and I sighed, setting down my work.
I looked over and saw Poison had fallen asleep, his head resting back against the water tub. His bright hair was resting against his cheek. His lips looked soft and pink, parted slightly. His dark eyelashes contrasted against his pale cheeks. There was something so perfect about the way he slept. He looked so peaceful and perfect. How is he so perfect? I brushed his hair back, my heart pounding in my chest.
"Um...Poison," I whispered.
I shook him gently and he jumped awake. He yawned, stretching his arms.
"I-I didn't mean to scare you," I said. "It's late, though."
He nodded and got up. He brought the uneaten soup down while I brought down the box of fabrics. I put the box on the counter and went straight back to my room. I pulled the necklace out of my pocket and stripped down to my boxers. I laid in bed, clutching the locket to my chest. I shut off the lamp as I stared up at the ceiling.
The light in Poison's room turned on and I looked over. I watched his shadow as he changed his clothes before sitting in bed next to Bandit. He ran his fingers through her hair before laying down. The light shut off, suddenly making me feel more lonely than I ever have.
