The Finial Trainer
"Wow, compared to Lumious, this place is tiny!" Chespin exclaimed as we walked through Camphrier Town.
"Maybe, but it has a castle!" I pointed out.
"Really? Where?" Chespin exclaimed, bouncing around excitedly.
I rolled my eyes. "It's definitely not the giant, castle- looking building in front of us," I replied sarcastically.
"What? I thought for sure that would be it," Chespin stated, confused.
Fennekin and Conner stifled giggles as I smacked Chespin lightly on the back of the head. "Ever heard of sarcasm?" I questioned.
Chespin blinked, and Conner and Fennekin broke down in a fit of laughter.
"It's really pretty," I heard Morgan comment as she looked at the castle.
"Why don't we go look inside?" Genevieve suggested.
"Let's go!" Morgan cheered, "I would love to see the inside of the castle!"
We all followed our trainers across the bridge and into the castle. It was huge, and made of a grey stone. It looked like and averaged castle.
"Wow!" Fennekin gasped as she entered, "This place is beautiful!"
"It really is!" Chespin agreed as he looked up at the artwork that decorated the ceiling. However, he forgot to watch his footing and tripped on a loose stone, falling flat on his face.
"Chespin, watch where your going!" Fennekin exclaimed, racing over to help Chespin up. "Please, act like a normal Pokemon for a change!"
"Why?" Chespin asked as Fennekin dusted him off.
"This is a castle," Fennekin replied, "As such, the people and Pokemon who live here are royalty, and I'll not have you acting a fool when we're around royalty, understand?"
"Uh.... no," Chespin answered.
"Just behave," Fennekin sighed.
We explored the castle and admired the artwork. Chespin was very careful while we toured the rest of the castle, probably because he was scared of getting another lecture from Fennekin. Close to the end of the tour, we reached a beautifully decorated bedroom. Standing in the middle of the room was a boy who appeared to be around Morgan's age. He was wearing a black shirt underneath a white trench coat with fancy designs stitched in golden thread, black pants, and a pair of black dress shoes.
"Pretty amazing, isn't it?" Morgan commented, approaching the boy.
"Not really," the boy answered, "This is the size of the pantry in my house. Tiny, really. I wish it were bigger."
"What?" Fennekin yelped, "He can't be serious!"
Everyone else was just as shocked. "You talk like you're a prince or something," Nick commented.
"I might as well be," the boy stated, "My house makes this castle look like a cheap apartment."
"Really? Then what are cheap apartments?" Genevieve joked.
"Not worth my time," the boy replied, "Now if you want to see a real castle, you should come to my home, at the end of Route 6. I'm sure I can convince my dad to give you three a discount on the entry fee. After all, two of you are the professor's pupils, Morgan and Nick, and of course, I would recognize the new Champion anywhere." With that, the boy turned and left.
Chespin was the first to speak. "How did he know that?" he exclaimed, "We didn't even introduce ourselves."
"He talked about this beautiful castle as if it were a piece of trash!" Fennekin gasped, "How could he?"
Our trainers stood there for a moment, before Morgan asked, "Did that just happen?"
"Do you mean the boy who was just here talking like he was royalty and then telling us we need to go to his house after naming who we are?" Genevieve questioned.
"Yes," Morgan answered.
"I have no idea what you're talking about," Genevieve replied.
"Well, since he told us to visit, we might as well go to his house," Nick noted. Gennevieve and Morgan nodded in agreement.
"Well, I bet his house is far less grand than this castle," Fenekin commented.
******************************************************************************************************
"You were saying," I stated.
We were standing in front of a tall, golden gate with two Serperior in an intricate pattern. The house itself looked like a giant mansion made of a pearly white marble and topped with a royal blue roof with golden decor.
"It's, ah... it's," Fennekin stuttered, at a loss for words.
We approached the gates and a man in a suit stepped in front of us. "That will be two thousand Pokedollors for each of you," he stated.
"What?!" Morgan shouted.
"Why?" Genevieve inquired.
"It's an entry fee," the man replied.
"But why would a place like this need an entry fee?" Nick inquired, "Doesn't the owner have enough money?"
"The owner of this castle believes that there is not such thing a being to rich," the man explained.
"Well, we don't have to come here," Morgan noted, "Come on, let's go."
We all turned to leave, but then a voice called out, "Wait a minuet!"
Turning around, I spotted the boy from the castle walking towards the man. "I promised these three a discount on the fee," he stated, "Let them all in for a thousand Pokedollars."
"But, why, sir?" the man asked.
"None of your business," the boy answered.
"Well, if it's what you want, and your father has approved," the man noted. He turned to us and asked, "Do one of you have a thousand Pokedollars?"
Morgan pulled the backpack she had received from the Professor to replace the supplies we lost when we were attacked by the Geodude. He had also included a little bit of money to help us along the way. She dug around until she found it then handed it to the man. The man observed the money, then turned and opened the gate. We walked inside and the gates slammed shut behind us.
Each of us looked expectantly at the boy. He just turned and stated plainly, "Follow me."
Glancing at each other in confusion, we followed him in to the house. He lead us through the front door and into the mansion. We all paused a moment in the foyer to admire the statues. Along the side where statues of Bisharp, and in the middle was a giant statue of a Milotic.
"This place is amazing!" Morgan exclaimed, gazing at all the artwork.
"I didn't bring you hear to admire the artwork," the boy replied.
"Then why did you bring us here?" Nick asked.
The boy didn't answer and just kept walking.
We followed the boy out a door with lead to a large garden with a number of hedge mazes. Two statues stared at each other from opposite sides of the garden. One appeared to be Reshiram, and the other Zeckrom.
"Wow, I haven't seen the Pokemon in these statues before," Morgan stated, looking up at Reshiram.
"Those are the two legendaries of the Unova region," the boy answered, "You see, this house was built by a king long ago to honor the Pokemon who battled in a war between Kalos and Unova three hundred years ago. This is the Pokemon of truth, Reshiram," he gestured to the tall, white statue, "- and that is the Pokemon of ideals, Zeckrom," he motioned to a large, black statue on the other side of the garden.
"They look powerful," Nick noted, observing the two statues, "I would hate to see what would happen if these two Pokemon battled."
"They have. Twice," the boy answered, "Once a long time ago, and again, just a few months ago."
"WHAT?" Morgan exclaimed, "No way!"
The boy glanced at Morgan's befuddled face. "Obviously, they need to focused more on world history and worldwide events in public schools," he sighed, "what are they doing with education, nowadays?"
Morgan glared at him. "I know my history perfectly well, thanks, but forgive me if I forget one of the many wars the world has."
The boy rolled his eyes. "Anyway," he stated, choosing to ignore Morgan's outburst, "I didn't bring you all here to give you a history lesson. I brought you here so we could battle."
"Really? All this way, just to battle?" Nick questioned.
"I couldn't challenge you to a battle in Shabboneau Castle, or in my house. Besides, what's the point of having a fancy house if you can't show it off to your rivals," the boy replied.
"Rivals?" Morgan asked, "We just meet."
"And yet he knew exactly who we were," Genevieve noted, "I think he knows more than he's letting on."
"Aren't you observant?" the boy stated, "But of course, I wouldn't expect any less from the Champion. And yes, she is correct. I know you received your Pokemon from Professor Sycamore, and started traveling the region scarcely a week ago." The boy removed a Pokeball from his belt and tossed it into the air. A flash of light revealed a Frogadier, who landed gracefully in front of his trainer. "You see, Professor Sycomore gave me a Pokemon as well. He told me of two other trainers who had received Pokemon from him. And of course, I knew about Champion Genevieve anyway. He's kept me up to speed on what you two were up to, so that we could all meet face to face. I'm surprised he didn't mention me when you meet him."
"He was a little bit distracted the last time we meet," Nick replied. He started to explain to the boy about what was happening in Lumious. While they were talking, the Frogadier walked up to Chespin, Fennekin, Conner, and I.
"Why haven't you two evolved yet?" was the first thing he asked.
"Nice to meet you, too," I said sarcastically.
"You're snippy, Pikachu," Frogadier replied.
I ready a reply, but Fennekin jumped in, "Amanda!" She exclaimed, "This Pokemon is basically royalty! Show some respect!"
I rolled my eyes, and Conner stepped up to address Frogadier. "Nice to meet you. I'm Conner, and the Pikachu is Amanda. And this is Fennekin and Chespin."
"Yes, I know," the Frogadier stated.
"How could you possibly know?" Chespin inquired.
"You would know, if you had been paying attention to my trainer's speech," Frogadier answered.
Chespin readied a retort, but was interrupted. "Chespin!" Morgan called, "Get ready, we're going to battle, ah-" she blinked, then turned to the boy, "What's your name?"
"Aaron," the boy replied, "Are you ready to battle?"
"I'm always ready!" Morgan cheered, "Come on, Chespin!" Chespin leapt in front of Morgan.
"Are you ready to loose?" Chespin yelled at Frogadier.
"I believe you should be asking yourself that question," Frogadier answered.
The two trainers took opposite place on a field of grass made to look like a battlefield. Genevieve was selected to be the referee. "The battle is between Pokemon Trainers Morgan and Aaron. This is a one- on- one Pokemon battle. Battle, START!"
Morgan took the first move. "Chespin, Rollout!" she ordered.
Chespin complied. He curled into a ball and rolled at Frogadier.
"Frogadier, Double Team," Aaron commanded calmly.
Frogadier glowed white, then multiple copies appeared across the field. It was impossible to tell which one was real. Chespin halted his attack and stared around in a panic.
"Oh no, which one's the real one?" Morgan mumbled.
Aaron took her hesitation to his advantage. "Frogadier, Quick Attack!" he called.
At once, all the clones raced at Chespin. Just before they all collided, they combined into one and slammed Chespin full force before jumping back. Chespin staggered back from the hit.
"Vine Whip!" Morgan called, "Grab Frogadier!"
Chespin sent out vine that wrapped themselves around Frogadier.
"Can't escape now, can you?" she challenged.
"Perhaps not, but neither can you," Aaron replied. Before Morgan could react, he ordered, "Ice beam, Frogadier."
A light blue ball formed in Frogadier's mouth, which released a beam that hit Chespin head on. The super effective hit sent Chespin flying, and released Frogadier from Chespin's Vine Whip.
"Quick Attack," Aaron sighed.
Frogadier raced at Chespin, who was still recovering from Ice Beam, and rammed into him at top speed.
Chespin tumbled across the field before righting himself. He glared angrily at Frogadier before collapsing.
"Chespin!" Morgan exclaimed, racing over to Chespin. She picked him up gingerly.
Genevieve sighed. "Chespin is unable to battle. Frogadier wins."
"My turn!" Nick exclaimed, stepping up to take Morgan's place on the battle field. Fennekin raced up and took her place on the battlefield.
Genevieve wasted no time starting the battle. "The battle is between Pokemon Trainers Nick and Aaron. This is a one- on- one Pokemon battle. Battle, START!"
This time, Aaron took first move. "Quick Attack," he stated.
"Counter with Scratch!" Nick shouted.
Frogadier raced at Fennekin. Just when he was about to crash into her, Fennekin scratched him, successfully deflecting the move.
"Water Pulse," Aaron ordered.
"Ember!" Nick exclaimed.
Frogadier formed a sphere of water between his hands, then launched it towards Fennekin. Fennekin shot a small fireball into the sphere. For a moment, the two attacks battled, but then the Water Pulse pushed through Ember and hit Fennekin as it exploded into a wave of water. Fennekin staggered back from the hit.
"Quick Attack," Aaron commanded.
"Flame Charge!" Nick yelled.
Frogadier raced at Fennekin. Fennekin ran towards him, and she became cloaked in a veil of flames. The two collided in the center, each fighting to overpower the other. Eventually, the two broke apart.
"Fennekin, Flame Charge again!" Nick shouted.
"Double Team and then Water Pulse," Aaron stated.
Fennekin raced at Frogadier, cloaked in flames. Frogadier momentarily glowed white, then multiple copies appeared all across the field. Fennekin halted and stared at the multiple copies. All the Frogadier formed an orb of water, then the all headed for Fennekin. Fennekin yelped and dodged a few, but the actual one hit her in the back, knocking her down. She struggled back to her feet and faced where the Water Pulse had come from.
"Ember!" Nick called.
"Water Pulse," Aaron ordered.
Fennekin shot a fireball in the direction of who she believed to be the real Frogadier. A sphere of water slammed into the Ember, breaking through it and hitting Fennekin. She staggered back from the super effective hit.
"Quick Attack," Aaron sighed.
The Frogadiers all raced at Fennekin, before combining into one behind her and ramming into her, knocking her across the field. Fennekin attempted to struggle to her feet, but collapsed back onto the ground.
Nick walked over and gently picked her up and walked off the battle field as Genevieve announced, "Fennekin is unable to battle. Frogadier wins."
I raced up and took my place on the battlefield. "Time to battle me!" I shouted.
Genevieve, apparently getting my idea, walked over to the place where she stood in a battle. "Well? Do you want to have a battle with me?" she inquired.
"You?" Aaron asked, "No, thanks. I'd rather save that for when I meet you at the Pokemon League."
"Are you scared to face the Champion?" Morgan questioned.
"Of course not," Aaron replied, "I just know better than to fight someone so powerful with my current Pokemon." With that, he returned Frogadier and walked off.
"Hey!" I shouted. When he didn't turn around, I walked over to Conner. "Scaredy Pokemon," I complained.
Genevieve turned to Morgan and Nick, who were each holding their fainted Pokemon in their arms. "We should go to the Pokemon center to get them healed," she stated, "No reason to stay here."
Nick and Morgan nodded in agreement, and our group walked off towards the Pokemon center.
