Chapter 7: Starting Again

Two years had passed since the events of Woodsboro. In those two years, things were still different for Sarah Loomis. On a positive note, she and Randy finally got together after a few months. However, that wasn't enough to outweigh the bad, at least in her eyes. For the rest of the school year, people would keep giving her weird looks, as if they were expecting her to snap and go on her own murder spree any second. No matter how many times she said she wasn't like that, the looks never stopped. Hell, Gale even wrote a book about everything, and it was being made into a movie.

Now, Sarah was hoping for a fresh start. She finished her Junior and Senior years of high school, and was now in her Freshman year at Windsor College in Ohio. Sidney and Randy were also there, so it was comforting to Sarah to still be around a friend and her boyfriend. Rose, however, was going to some school in L.A., but made sure to keep in touch. Right now she couldn't stop telling Sarah about this guy named Roman that she met. Along with her new start, Sarah went with a new look. She added more blonde streaks to her hair, as well as a few black ones, and her dark makeup became more of an everyday thing.

Things seemed to be going well, until she heard about two people getting killed at a preview for 'Stab', the movie that was about Woodsboro. She tried not to think about it, but unfortunately for her, that was part of the discussion in her film class.

"You could say what happened in that theatre is a direct result of the movie itself." The instructor says.

"That is so moral majority." One of her classmates, Cici Cooper says, "You can't blame real life violence on entertainment."

"Wait a second, yes you can." Some other guy in the class says, "Don't you even watch the news?"

"Yeah, hello. The murderer was wearing a ghost mask, okay?" Another boy adds, "Just like in the movie. It's directly responsible."

"No, it's not." Sarah protests, "Movies are not responsible for our actions."

"It's a classic case of life imitating art imitating life." Another classmate, Mickey Altieri, adds.

"This is not a hypothetical. It's not about art." Another girl says, "I had biology with that girl. This is reality."

"Thank you. I agree with you." Randy says, "Let me tell you about reality, Mickey. Sarah and I, we lived through this, okay? Life is life. It doesn't imitate anything."

"Come on Randy," Mickey says, "with all due respect, the killer obviously patterned himself after two serial killers who have been immortalized on film."

"Are you suggesting that someone is trying to make a real-life sequel?" The instructor asks.

"What, 'Stab 2'?" Randy asks, "Who'd want to do that? Sequels suck." Most of the other classmates quickly protested, but Randy continued. "Oh, please, please. By definition alone, they're inferior films."

"It's a bullshit generalization." Mickey counters, "Many sequels have surpassed their original."

"Oh yeah?" Sarah asks.

"Name one." Cici says.

"'Aliens.' Far better than the first." One guy says.

"Yeah, well, there's no accounting for taste." Sarah says.

"Thank you. Ridley Scott rules- name another." Randy says.

"No, 'Aliens' is a classic, okay?" The second guy says, "'Get away from her, you bitch.'"

"I believe the line is 'Stay away from her, you bitch.'" Sarah corrects.

"This is film class, right?" Randy adds. "Another."

"'T2.'" Mickey says.

"You've got a hard-on for Cameron." Cici says.

"Yeah. Big one." Randy adds.

"Okay, wait a second." The first guy says, "The first 'Terminator' is historical."

The whole class then laughed as Sarah and Randy acted out a short scene from the movie.

"Alright, okay." The second guy says, "'House II: The Second Story.'"

The whole class groaned and Mickey threw a paper ball at him.

"The entire horror genre was destroyed by sequels." Randy says.

"Many of which don't deserve to exist." Sarah adds.

"Hey, I got it, by the way." Mickey says, "I got it. 'The Godfather, Part II.'"

There was a general agreement from the rest of the class. Even Sarah and Randy couldn't deny that.

"All right, that's enough." The instructor says, "That'll be a wrap. The sequel discussion to be continued."

Sarah and Randy then noticed Sidney waiting in the doorway, and she looked worried. They knew something was wrong, and quickly got up.

"So, Mr. Originality," The one girl asks, stopping the two, "How would you make it different?"

"I'd let the geek get the girl." Randy replies before he and Sarah leave with Sidney.

"300 people watched and nobody did anything." Sidney says, "They thought it was a publicity stunt, for Christ sakes."

"And would have been a good one, too." Randy says, randomly talking in a Cockney accent.

"It's starting again, guys." Sidney says.

"It's not." Randy says, "A lot of shit happens at the movies. People get robbed, shot, maimed, murdered. Multiplex is just a very dangerous place to be these days."

"Yeah, and you are in extreme denial." Sidney counters.

"And you should be, too. This has nothing to do with us." Randy says.

"What if she's right?" Sarah asks, "I mean, a guy in a ghost mask hacked up two people in a movie theater telling our life story."

"Coincidence?" Randy asks.

"Look, you guys both know what happened in Woodsboro." Sidney says. "You can't ignore it."

"I know, Sid, but I don't want to go back there again." Randy says.

"And as much as I'd like to forget it and move on, I can't." Sarah says, "Can we at least for now try and go back to our pseudo-quasi-happy existence? Hi Derek." She adds when she sees Sidney's new boyfriend join the group.

"Hey, Sid." Derek says, not really acknowledging Randy or Sarah, "I've been looking everywhere. I heard. You weren't in class."

"Yeah, I know. I skipped." Sidney says, "I couldn't take all the 'that's her' looks."

"Is there anything I can do?" Derek asks.

"Well, you got any ideas for getting me back to a pseudo-quasi-happy existence?" Sidney asks.

"You know, I might just have one for that." Derek says.

"Oh yeah? What is it?" Randy asks as Derek pulls Sidney in for a kiss. He rolls his eyes at them, which Sarah just laughs at.

"Come on, don't give me that." She says before pulling him in for a quick kiss herself. "Better?"

"Better." Randy replies before putting his arm around her and catching up with Sidney and Derek, who had walked off.
