Chapter 22
The silence of the room was peaceful, the warmth of the sunlight trickling in from beneath his curtains added to the calming effect of the dawn.
Jaemin rolled onto his back, smiling contently as he allowed his eyes to slowly begin to accommodate themselves to the brightness. The darkness of the previous evening had given way to a refreshing morning with a few excited birds singing their gratitude for another beautiful day.
His hand gently falls to the side, but in it's journey to find flesh, it falls against the mattress. Perplexed, it moves around in an exaggerated gesture, using the mattress as a map to locate his treasure.
He comes up empty.
Jaemin raises from his comfortable position, brows furrowed as he widens his eyes to observe his bedside.
Empty and cold.
Jeno was gone.
Thrashing back the blankets that had been cocooned around him, Jaemin scrambles from the bed. His feet immediately protest as they land against the cold flooring of his bedroom, making him pause in his endeavor.
Frustrated, he reaches out and snatches the pair of pink fluffy socks that he had thrown away in his heartbreak an hour before Jeno's arrival in the early hours of the morning. He throws them on with a grimace, glancing back into his rumpled bed where Jeno had once occupied.
"Just for a while." Mark's voice had cut through his rant with a sad smile on his lips. "we had been making plans to come back for the full moon when Jisung showed up on our doorstep. We didn't expect to be back so soon."
Jaemin's breath gets caught in his throat, his eyes filling with tears at the memory. Mark had already told him that they didn't have any plans on sticking around, that the only reason why they were there in the first place was because Jaemin had been kidnapped.
They had come back before they were ready. Mark wasn't prepared for the move just yet, he had only come out of respect for Jeno who had already shown great ability in protecting Jaemin.
It was no surprise that once his mission was accomplished he would feel obligated to Mark to go back to their dormitory.
It left a sour taste in his mouth.
With sock covered feet and a bitter storm swirling in his gut, Jaemin pulls himself out of bed and into the hallway.
On his journey to the kitchen, he linger by Jeno's old bedroom. Though he should probably start to address it as the room that Jeno occupied once upon a time. He doesn't know exactly why he decides to do it, but he forces himself to listen.
There's no movement, no thrumming heartbeat, no gentle exhale of air. The room was as silent as ever, an exact match to the many other times during his absence that Jaemin lingered just outside in the hope of hearing Jeno moving around.
The quiet was another clue.
Jeno wasn't here.
Once downstairs, Jaemin finds himself glancing into the living-room. It's still darkened by the drawn curtains which do a fantastic job at blocking out the bright sunshine. Jisung sits oddly against the armrest of the couch, his hand cradling his head to make it appear as if he is watching the television still playing re-runs of his favourite anime, but his closed eyes make viewing difficult.
Jaemin's heart softens a little at the sight, his body reacting in a gentle giggle which he muffles with his palm. Though he does wince for the ache of the boy's wrist that awaits for him when he does wake.
"He's been fighting sleep all night," Chanyeol explains from the edge of the couch closest to the doorway. He sits with his feet up on the coffee-table, a blanket covering the long expense of his legs. "He finally nodded off properly about an hour ago."
"How long have you been awake?" Jaemin wonders, stepping over the threshold. He keeps quiet as he moves closer, Chanyeol adjusting himself on the couch so Jaemin could sit himself down on the armrest.
"I managed to get some sleep at about 5:30, then woke up again at 7. Ji claims I got longer but I would argue that-"
"Did you see Jeno and Mark?" He questions, cheeks burning as he interrupts Chanyeol's morning ramble.
The taller doesn't seem all that offended by Jaemin's query, his lips curling upward momentarily before disappearing completely. He nods his head, glancing down at his lap where his fingers play with the blanket.
"I did." He admits, chancing another glance at him. "They left at around 7 to head back to their dormitory."
They had been gone for three hours. Jaemin feels his anger fuel into frustration. How could he have left without saying goodbye? Chanyeol muffles a whimper at Jaemin's flaring scent.
"Do you want me to start breakfast?" Chanyeol wonders, trying to soften the blow of Jeno's departure.
"No, it's alright." Jaemin admits through clenched teeth. "Kyungsoo was planning on making waffles this morning-"
"I can get started on them-"
"Your waffles aren't as good as his." Jaemin snaps, hanging his head between his shoulders.
Chanyeol didn't deserve his frustrations, he hadn't done anything wrong. Though, Jaemin could argue that he could have left Jeno out of his plan to rescue Jaemin from his kidnappers, at least then he wouldn't feel the sting of his sudden pre-dawn disappearance.
"Well then," Chanyeol pushes the blanket off. Jaemin watches as it falls to the floor in a fluffy lump. "I guess I'll get started on the fruit salad, I can't exactly mess that up."
There is no venom in his words but Jaemin still pouts, disappointed in himself for having taken his anger out on his guardian. Chanyeol comes to stand in front of him, his hand warm as he gently tilts Jaemin's chin upward.
His lips come down to press a kiss to his forehead, a gentle swipe of his thumb makes Jaemin hum gently.
"Sehun's out the front fixing the cars, can you let him know that I'm starting breakfast? He might be able to make his signature coffee this morning, once he sees your pout."
Jaemin's stomach jumps at the idea of one of Sehun's signature coffees, he made them far better than any of the local café's Jaemin has tried. He doesn't make them often, so it becomes a special occasion for the whole house when he does. Jaemin's heartbreak might be just enough to warrant a Sehun specialty.
Chanyeol lets his hold on him go and Jaemin rushes towards the front door. He reminds himself that there are still people asleep upstairs, Kyungsoo's gentle breathing easy to hear over the silence of the house. So, with this in mind, he gently turns the handle and slips out through a gap in the door.
His lungs naturally refill at the morning breeze, a small smile creeping onto his lips as the forest greets him back with earnest. The trees gently wave their greeting, allowing sparks of sunlight to slip through their branches. Jaemin wallows under the soft warmth of the glow, basking in the golden rays before another freezing breeze blows against his cheeks.
He can hear Sehun tinkering with metal to the right of the porch, Jaemin's head snapping towards the sound. He goes to move in the direction of Sehun's carefree whistling when another sound breeches Jaemin's ears.
It halts him in his steps.
The soft hum of an engine coming up the narrow forest drive just beyond the cobblestone driveway. Jaemin is able to recognise it in a heartbeat.
Chanyeol's truck.
"Well it's about time!" Sehun's sharp voice cuts through Jaemin's focus, snapping him back to the view before him.
Sehun stands just to the left of the staircase leading up to where Jaemin stands on the porch. In his hand he's carrying a wrench which he swings gently back-and-forward against his thigh. His breath materializes in the chill air.
Together they watch as Chanyeol's truck turns into their driveway, an orange indicator blinking. A small black car follows behind it, one that Jaemin recognizes as Jongdae's black Toyota hybrid.
It swerves around Chanyeol's jeep, coming to a park right next to Sehun who is already laughing as Mark hops out from the front seat. "Told you I could make it!"
"You scratched his paint coming out of the parking lot, that's not something to celebrate." Jeno speaks around a smile, playfully ignoring his best friend as he stretches around the jeep's console to grab his backpack. "Sehun, I want to record to show that I was the only careful driver out of us today."
"Did you scratch Chanyeol's truck?" Sehun wonders, walking over the cobblestones to have a look.
"Nope, because I don't do dumb shit when I'm driving!"
"That Merc had absolutely no right to be parked there!" Mark snaps, crossing his arms against his chest. His actions sent a puff of smoke from his lips. "Sehun!" He calls, making the vampire's head pop up from behind's the truck's hood. "Is Kyungsoo awake yet? Chanyeol said that he was making waffles this morning?"
"Still asleep unfortunately." He replies, gaping at the look of Jeno's red motorbike in the truck's bed. "You finally brought it home to be repaired!"
"Beats the parking fee on campus," Jeno shrugs his shoulders. "it's scratched because I dropped it when those invaders came, has the paint come in yet?"
"Got it two days ago." Sehun nods his head.
Jaemin suddenly remembers how to breathe, his breathy exhale gaining the attention of the other boys. Mark turns to look at him first, smiling mischievously as he immediately turns his head to watch Jeno's reaction.
Jeno stares up at him from the side of Chanyeol's truck, a smile making its way to his lips. He starts making his way towards the staircase, Jaemin stays frozen on the porch.
In his pursuit of getting to Jaemin, Jeno passes by his best friend who he slaps on the back of the head. "You promised me that we would be back before he woke up."
"How the hell was I supposed to know? I don't sleep with the guy, how would I know his sleep schedule?" Mark tries to make his best friend see reason, but Jeno ignores him in his quest to make it up the staircase.
He does it so elegantly, jumping two stairs at a time before he reaches Jaemin at the top. He's wearing a small apologetic smile.
"Sorry," He whispers, not letting the wind drag his words to anyone else. "I genuinely thought you wouldn't notice that I was gone."
"The bed was cold," Jaemin replies, voice even quieter than Jeno's had been. "of course I'm going to realise when you're not there."
"Sorry for waking you." Jeno greets him with a small kiss to the cheek, his hands warm as they settle against Jaemin's waist.
"Come back to bed." Jaemin groans, leaning his chin against Jeno's shoulder. "Let's go to your room this time, it's closer."
"What about breakfast?" Jeno wonders with a chuckle. "Don't you want some of Kyungsoo's famous waffles?"
"Not really," he admits, rubbing his nose along Jeno's collarbone. "Please can we just go back to bed?"
"Alright princess." Jeno crouches just enough to pull against Jaemin's knees to lift him from the floor. Jaemin goes willingly, wrapping his arms around Jeno's neck.
He buries his nose into the curve of Jeno's neck, his favourite spot because it's where he can smell Jeno the best. His scent immediately makes Jaemin's swirling frustration simmer down to a content calmness, allowing his muscles to relax as if he was back in bed.
Jeno leads them back through the doorway in a different position to the way he had mere hours ago. When they arrived in the entryway, Jaemin let out a small disappointed grunt when Jeno turned to the left and approached the door leading into the living-room.
"You guys okay?" Chanyeol's deep voice whispers, reminding Jaemin of Jisung's continued slumber.
"Yeah, we're okay." Jeno replies, the hint of a smile in his voice. "I managed to get the bike on the truck bed so Sehun's going to have a look at it for me, I told him I could do it but-"
"You seem to have your hands full." Chanyeol jokes.
Jeno laughs, his body vibrating against Jaemin's. The hybrid decides that it is probably for the best that he doesn't respond.
"He just wants to go back to bed so I'm taking him upstairs, do you think that you might be able to set some food aside for us? I just know that he's going to be hungry in like an hour."
Jaemin slaps his hand against Jeno's shoulder, but the human doesn't say anything verbally. He feels semi-gratitude not being able to see how Jeno physically reacted to the hit.
"I'll make sure Kyungsoo makes extra... still want that coffee Jaem?"
Jaemin hums his approval, adoring the idea of coming down from an extra-long nap to a plate of Kyungsoo's best waffles and Sehun's signature coffee. It was already starting to sound like a dream.
"Do you need me to get your stuff from the truck?"
"Nah," Jaemin feels Jeno's head shake. "I'll deal with it later, do you need me to move it yet?"
"If I need to go anywhere I'll take someone else's car. Don't worry, just go get some sleep."
The termination of their conversation had Jaemin's stomach flipping in glee, not only would Chanyeol be ensuring that there is a reasonable amount of waffles and coffee left over, but Jeno had brought his stuff back?
Jaemin had to pinch himself to make sure that he wasn't dreaming. This was turning out to be a very good morning after all.
Jeno brought them out of the room and up the stairs fairly quickly to Jaemin's complete delight. As they approached his bedroom door, he halted before continuing on down the hallway. He lifts a hand off Jaemin's leg to open the door to his bedroom, pushing inside with barely any effort.
His pink walls surprise him as he watches Jeno's back walk further into Jaemin's bedroom. He doesn't say anything as Jeno gently places him down onto his bed, but his furrowed brows do bring out a reaction.
"What?" Jeno whispers behind a chuckle. He takes off his backpack, letting it down gently to the floor by Jaemin's bed.
"I thought we were going to your bedroom?" Jaemin admits though finding himself not that upset that they have winded up back where they had started.
"I figured since you woke up earlier than I expected you to, I might be able to get a do-over." Jeno moves to take off his shoes, using either foot to help guide the shoes to the floor.
"You gonna stay this time?" Jaemin giggles, pushing himself back against the bubblegum coloured wall. He can feel his plushies press against his back, protesting at his weight.
"Always," Jeno replies, a devilish smirk on his lips. He's wearing sweatpants which makes Jaemin a little upset not to get the same excitement filling his chest as a few hours prior. "I do have something that I can do to make you feel better.." Jeno admits, taking off his shirt to reveal his bare chest.
Jaemin's cheeks burn at the sight, instinctively pulling the blanket closer to him. His curiosity ends up getting the best of him.
"What is it?"
"A promise." Jeno whispers, crawling on top of the mattress. He lingers on his side of the bed, watching closely for Jaemin's reaction. "I promise that from now on, every time I sleep with you I'll stay until you wake up."
"You're making me a promise?" Jaemin gapes dramatically, internally screaming at the indications behind the words. "But Lee Jeno doesn't break his promises."
"Don't give me a reason to start now." Jeno winks, collapsing against the pillow he had claimed. He wrestles the blanket out of Jaemin's grip before gently settling himself down beneath it.
"When I woke up... I thought you went back to the dorm."
"We did-"
"I meant permanently." Jaemin whispers, never too comfortable with vocalizing his feelings. But everything was so easy with Jeno, things that Jaemin had originally wished to keep hidden, blurted themselves from his mouth completely unprompted.
"We were only planning on staying the remainder of the week, I wanted to come back on Saturday. To make sure that Mark was prepared for the full moon but also because..." He pauses, carefully choosing his words. "I feel wanted here, needed. Growing up without a family isn't all that hard because I never have time to dwell on it. I moved around a lot as a kid, never had roots to sow. But here," he turns on to his side to face Jaemin. "I got comfortable."
"You planted yourself." Jaemin teases, though not at all in a menacing way. He giggles as he slips beneath the blankets himself, laying down on his own pillow. His plushies relaxing back against their wall. "I know we had a rocky start, but I'm glad you came here."
"Me too." Jeno's voice is wispy, his eyes locked on Jaemin's. His lips are curled upwards in a small smile. "I'm glad that I decided to move in."
That gains Jaemin's attention, the hybrid snapping upward in a blur of pink. He stares down at Jeno with wide eyes and a dropped jaw.
"Yeah," Jeno laughs. "I have."
"You're moving in here?" Jaemin gestures to the room around them.
"Well I do think I need my own bedroom," Jeno teases with a wink. "I would be all over you too often - you'll feel too overwhelmed by my constant presence."
"That's a lie," Jaemin shrieks, forcing Jeno to slam his hand back over his lips.
"Baby," he whispers in his English, Jaemin melts. "Stop yelling so loudly, you'll wake people up."
"Butiwanttoseeyouallthetime" the sentence comes out muffled. With a pleading look, Jeno drops his hand and Jaemin is able to say it again, not as quiet as he perhaps should have but with his excitement taking the reins he didn't have much of a choice. "But I already want to see you all the time."
"And now you will." Jeno smiles, eyes crinkling. "But having our own space isn't so bad, you need a place to run when you're upset with me."
"I already have a place." Jaemin admits, watching as Jeno's head perks up at the statement. "It's in the basement-"
"Yixing's office?"
"No," Jaemin giggles. "It's another basement that connects to the living-room."
Jeno faintly recalls the wooden door that he had noticed when he carried Mark inside after they had arrived, their first day. Then there was the time that he actually looked past the threshold himself, where he found Haechan crying after the invaders raided his home. The final time that Jeno had actually taken notice of the door was when Jaemin himself was coming out of it that morning when he first took notice of the email from his university.
"It's my sanctuary," he admits, a pale blush on his cheeks. "It was an empty room when I moved in, but Chanyeol thought that I could put it to good use. Now I'm always down there whenever I have time..." he pauses, reaching across the mattress to link their fingers together. "What did Chanyeol say when you asked?"
"He asked me." Jeno clarifies. "I came down at seven to wake Mark up because he forgot that we even had anywhere to go, Chanyeol stirred with him. I didn't want to leave, I told him that, but we had to go back to the dorm anyway. He said that if we wanted, we could make the move more permanent. Mark obviously was a little hesitant about it, but I had my own reasons for why it would be a good idea."
"Oh yeah?" Jaemin tugs him closer. "What are they?"
"Well for starters, I no longer have to pay rent for the accommodation, or pay for the parking spot on campus. I don't have to listen to our neighbors play dubstep until 5am in the morning. I get to eat home made meals, I have a space that I can call my own and do whatever I want with it. My best friend gets to live down the hallway and I get endless entertainment watching him freak about about his feelings."
"Is that all?"
"Well no," Jeno admits, brushing his thumb along the back of Jaemin's palm. "Chanyeol wants me to help assist him in his projects. Being an engineer is already difficult but when you don't have an architect sketching out ideas, the workload gets a little too much. He's taking me on as an intern for his company. My salary goes towards the rent and utilities. But I still get a monthly wage that I can use for my own pleasure. He's very generous."
"You spoke about all of that this morning?"
"No," Jeno laughs. "We spoke last night before I came up to see you, it was probably when Mark came up-"
"You know about that?"
"He's been wanting to apologise for a while now, so when my back was turned he flew up the stairs. He wasn't very good at hiding it though, he came back down with a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye. Wouldn't say anything about what you two talked about, just that you two were better than before."
"So what did you guys talk about this morning?"
"I gave him my answer." Jeno explains, intense gaze locked on Jaemin. "I couldn't accept it at the time, because I didn't really know what I wanted. Honestly, I figured that I would be more of a burden than anything else to him. But then I spent a few hours here, with you... and I saw the life that I could have here. I decided that for this one thing, I could be selfish."
"Bu-" Jaemin stutters, finding himself overcome with emotion. The words can't come out no matter how he tries to speak them, all he's able to conjure is a faint "Mark?"
"Told me I was an idiot if I didn't accept it." Jeno chuckles, squeezing his hold on Jaemin's hand. "Chanyeol understands that we come as a package deal, he made the offer to Mark as well as long as he funneled some of his parents money into the house. Let's be real here, it won't be a problem. They already love it here and they'll be delighted that Mark has decided to move in here, especially since the money Chanyeol's asking for isn't even half of his rent fee for the dorm."
"But don't you have a lease? A contract that binds you to the dorm?"
"Apparently not anymore." Jeno admits. Jaemin's brows furrow. "My scholarship was terminated. I can't pay for the remainder of my tuition fees, I'm not entirely sure about it myself but Sehun seems to have a plan. I'm not supposed to have any contact with the university anymore, he's acting as my legal representative apparently. I'm just to attend my classes and continue contact with my lecturers but I'm not allowed to have any outside influence from individuals within the corporation. Mark's situation is different, because his parents pay his fees, he's allowed to back out of the clause whenever he wants."
"But because the school was paying for you, you had no choice." Jaemin nods his head in understanding, though he's slightly overwhelmed by the information. "So you're not going anywhere?"
"Just on the days when I need to go back to attend classes." Jeno explains with a smile.
"But you'll be back right? After classes, will you come back home?"
Jeno's response isn't immediate, though his reaction seems to speak for itself. His eyes grow wider, cheeks burning a little brighter. His head falls forward, bobbing slightly as he nods. "Yeah" he whispers. "I'll always come home."

Chanyeol hums to himself in the kitchen, finding himself grinning as he stares out of the window behind the sink. He's washing the dishes left over from breakfast with the pack, a chore that doesn't necessarily bring on a melody but something feels different today.
Jeno had finally made the decision to join the household. When Chanyeol made him that offer in the early hours of the dawn, he expected a blatant refusal. He knew that Jeno cared immensely for his best friend, who had already stated multiple times that he wasn't entirely ready to make that leap.
But when Jeno leaned back in his seat, viewing the flickering flames of the still raging fire, Chanyeol was surprised to find him contemplating.
"You don't have to make your decision right now," Chanyeol had reassured him, knowing that it was a very big question to consider. He was essentially asking Jeno to give up everything he already knew, in a place he had grown accustomed to, to come to a house in the middle of the woods filled with supernatural creatures.
That was a pretty large request.
And yet he felt compelled to do it. More than once Jeno has shown to be a useful asset to their team, someone who obviously seemed to care deeply for the others under the same roof as him. He was a nice boy, but he also knew what it took to protect a family. Chanyeol would have been stupid not to extend the offer.
He honestly hadn't been expecting an answer so soon. He figured that the boy would return to his dormitory for the remainder of the week and have his answer when they both arrived to start training Mark for the full moon. However, when he came down the staircase when the sun was not yet shining in the sky and Jisung's snores drowned out the early birds, Jeno surprised him.
"I want to move in." he had announced much to Chanyeol's surprise. "I made a home here, I would be honored to stay. Are you sure that what we spoke about is all you want from me?"
Still semi-asleep and without any caffeine in his veins, Chanyeol struggled to recognise it at first. But when Jeno didn't ease up and remained strong against the doorway, Chanyeol realised that he meant it.
He was meaning every word.
"Absolutely." He had whispered over the air, his promise barely registering over Jisung's deep snores.
"Then I accept."
"Me too." Mark's voice was still riddled with sleep, but his lips were curled into a tired smile. "If you're still offering me the same deal?"
"Of course." Chanyeol felt overwhelmed by the glorious news. "Absolutely, yes."
"Good," Mark groans as he tries to pull himself from the centre of the couch. "because I'm not letting him do this alone. He's my family and my best friend, we don't leave each other behind."
"Are you sure?" Jeno whispered, staring across the room at Mark who let out a little victory squeak at his accomplishment of finding a way off the couch. "You can still stay in the dorm-"
"No," Mark declines with a shake to his head. "I wanted to see what you would do when an offer like this came your way. I told you last night that you would be an idiot if you didn't accept it, but I also kept my mouth shut about the rest. I needed you to come to the conclusion yourself, without my input. I wanted you to weigh your own options, without the influence of your best friend. And I think you made the right decision. You flourish here man, better than I've ever seen you. You're meant to be here and I'm glad you decided that for yourself. So," Mark turns his attention back to Chanyeol, a radiant smile on his face. "When can we move in?"
"Whenever you want." Chanyeol was still in awe. "Will you need help?"
"Not if we take your truck." Jeno suggests, glancing over to Mark with a shrug.
"We left Jongdae's car in the parking lot on campus," Chanyeol explains, mind whirling to recall where he put the keys. "you can fill the trunk with your things if the truck isn't enough."
"Legend!" Mark somehow manages to whisper his shout of excitement. He bends down and gently slaps his hand against Chanyeol's shoulder. "I'll go find the keys."
Jeno waited until he was gone before stepping closer. "Are you sure about this?" He wonders, still looking a bit unsure. "About everything, not just the terms of us moving in.. I mean the other stuff, Jaemin-"
"How's your bruises?"
Jeno raises his shirt. Chanyeol isn't even that surprised anymore.
Jeno's bruises were gone.
"I'm sure." He remembers to breathe. "Staying here will give us a chance to figure it all out, together."
A gentle clatter of a plate snaps his back into reality drawing Chanyeol's gaze down to the plate in his hand, the ceramic continued to vibrate gently emitting an echoing sound against his ears.
His ears picked up something else, something hidden behind the gentle ringing of the plate in his hand. A softer sound, distant just beyond the boundary line.
Leaving behind the foamed up sink, Chanyeol grabs a towel and wipes his wet hands into it. He glances at the back door, managing to spot the latch still in place.
"Kyungsoo?" he calls, voice echoing off the tiles.
"Living-room!" The latter responds.
Chanyeol moves before he can think, still keeping his concentration on the sound in the distance. As he makes his way through the house, taking long strides as he does so, the sound continues to approach.
It's getting closer.
When he arrives in the living-room, he's almost thankful that everyone is scattered around the room.
Yixing and Suho sit on the armchair in the corner, intensely watching the television where a romance movie is currently playing. Mark and Jisung are sitting on the floor, surrounded by tissues and empty crisp packets. Renjun, Haechan and Kyungsoo remain on the couch, glasses of orange juice in hand. Jongdae and Minseok shush him from their own place on the two-seater, their eyes locked on the screen.
Goosebumps rise against his skin, his breath catching as whoever is coming, breeches the boundary.
He barely has time to shout "Duck" before the window blasts open. Everyone in the room screams as shards go everywhere. Chanyeol rushes towards the intruder who seems to lock eyes on him and pounce.
A familiar scent hits his nose relieving his body of all fight. The intruder forces him to the floor, snarling, wide eyes glowing bright blue.
"Where is he Park?"
"Baekhyun," Chanyeol groans. "Pleasant morning huh?"

A harsh jolt sends Jeno up in the bed, his body covered in goosebumps. His sudden jerking motion pulls Jaemin out of his slumber, still half-asleep.
"What's wrong?" He wonders.
"Someone just passed through the boundary." Jeno throws off the blankets, grasping his shirt and pulling it over his head.
"What?" Jaemin shrieks, watching as Jeno rushes to take his hand. The hybrid gives in willingly, letting Jeno lift him from the heated sheets. "How the hell do you know that?"
They both hear the glass break and the shouts of the housemates downstairs. Jeno places himself in front of Jaemin, keeping a hold on him as they begin to make their way out of the hallway.
Why they had decided to go towards the noise was beyond him, especially when most people would obviously choose to run in the opposite direction. But Jeno didn't have his bat, they were completely defenseless upstairs if there was a fight.
When they got down a couple of the stairs, Jeno could hear voices screaming in the living-room. One of them is Chanyeol's, the other one familiar though unrecognizable.
"Where is he Park?"
Jaemin goes stiff against him, his eyes wide when Jeno turns to look at him. He doesn't know why he does it, but he lets Jaemin take control. He lets him take his hand and leads him the rest of the way towards the living-room, a hopeful glint in his eye.
"Baekhyun," Chanyeol groans. "Pleasant morning huh?"
Jeno's heart stops in his chest.
Jaemin halts in his steps, his eyes filling with tears as he glances back at Jeno.
The human immediately takes over, gently tugging Jaemin along behind him as they approach the living-room. Jeno sees the mess, glass everywhere with Chanyeol on the carpet with a dark haired male on top of him with a murderous look in his eye.
"Where is he?" he snarls, werewolf fangs shimmering in glint of the sunlight shining through the broken window. His bright blue orbs immediately remind Jeno of Jaemin's flashing blue eyes whenever he's emotional.
"Hyung?" Jaemin's voice breaks, his fingers coiling around Jeno's palm. He can feel as the hybrid presses up against his back, his breath fanning along the expanse of Jeno's neck.
"Mommy and Daddy are a bit busy at the moment sweetheart." Baekhyun's lips curled upwards in a grin, his intense gaze still locked on Chanyeol.
"Are you going to get off him or should we clear the room?" Jeno wonders, glancing down at Chanyeol's smug expression.
"Just FYI if you do plan on throwing him through the coffee-table make sure he's the one on top."
"You're the one who didn't catch me!" Mark yelled, peeking up from behind the back of the couch. He gives the duo a glance before struggling to hold back a laugh. "You know for peak sexual tension might I suggest a wall?"
"That's low." Jeno crosses his arms. "But I would recommend it."
Jaemin hits his back.
"Jeno, I got this." Chanyeol holds up his hand, eyes unmoving from the annoyed brunette on top of him. "Mark that's a low blow."
"What the hell did I do?" The new werewolf throws up his arms, looking at Jisung like he would be able to help explain this situation to him. The youngest of the house shrugs his shoulders, stifling a laugh.
"Not that this isn't... pleasant," Chanyeol admits. "Why exactly are you here?"
"Are you brain dead?" Baekhyun snaps. "You texted me telling me that Jaemin got kidnapped."
Jeno feels the atmosphere of the room drop, everyone turns to look at the taller who squints at the accusation.
"Um.. no I didn't?"
"Yes you did."
"Okay," Jeno tries to defuse the tension, but they continue to bicker.
"No I didn't."
"Yes you did."
"I'm pretty sure that I would remember sending that text."
"Why else would I be here?"
"Big misunderstanding-" Jeno takes a step away from Jaemin, approaching the two who still haven't moved from their intimate looking position.
"He's standing right over there, he's fine."
"He was fucking kidnapped, of course he's not fine."
"Well, have you asked him?" Chanyeol wonders. "He has a phone."
"Like I would call him after he got fucking kidnapped, he deserves me showing up to check on him."
"Yeah you're doing a great job of it..." Jeno whispers beneath his breath, it goes unheard as the duo continue their bickering match.
"Oh like you did when he broke his neck?"
Jeno whips around to look at Jaemin who sadly offers him a small smile in response. Jeno turns back with anger pooling in his stomach.
"I was in Italy, how the hell would you have liked me to get here?"
"Alright that's enough!" Jeno's voice raises. He walks over and grabs Baekhyun's shoulder, using it as momentum to pull him up.
The familiar werewolf goes flying, scrambling to place his feet back on the ground. Jeno assists him, before offering a hand out to Chanyeol who quickly takes the aid.
"I was the one to text him, I did it with your phone. I figured that Jaemin's other parental figure needed to know the situation, though I didn't expect him to arrive like this."
"Good to see you again Sparky," Baekhyun grins, gently patting Jeno on the shoulder. "glad to see the supernatural strength is still in excellent use."
"You told him about me?" Jaemin's voice is wet when Jeno returns his attention to him. The boiling anger in his gut immediately returns to a gentle simmer. He nods his head, smiling apologetically but Jaemin rushes into his arms. "Thank you."
"What. The. Fuck?" Baekhyun tries to whisper, bright brown eyes staring over at Chanyeol who stands a safe distance away from him. When he doesn't say anything, Baekhyun peacefully clears his throat. "Sweetheart?"
"Hi hyung." Jaemin smiles at him, lingering in Jeno's arms. "I wasn't expecting to see you."
"I panicked when I heard that someone had taken you, are you alright?"
"Better now." He admits. "I'm all healed up and there's no lingering damage."
"Just psychological." Jeno explains, squeezing his hold on Jaemin's hips. "He was whimpering for a while in his sleep before calming down, there will probably be a few nightmares for awhile."
Baekhyun glances over at Suho who is startled at the quiet inclusion. He dips his head, confirming Jeno's general diagnosis. "I would recommend that he not be left alone for a while."
"I've gone through torture before," Jaemin announces to the room, but seems to be reminding Baekhyun. "what they did to me barely made as big of an impact as what Chase did. Like Suho said, as long as I'm not left alone and that I have someone to help mediate the dreams, I'll be fine."
"I can't stay long sweetheart but I'll-"
"That's okay." Jaemin smiles. "I have Jeno now."
Jeno offers Baekhyun a small hesitant smile, which he is genuinely surprised to see reflected back at him.
"Well I want to spend a few days with you, if that's okay. Since I'm here. If I'm allowed?" Baekhyun glances around the room, shifting uncomfortably beneath the gazes.
"I would love that," Jaemin smiles, turning to look at the others in the room. "if that's okay with everyone else?"
"Chanyeol makes the decisions about who stays." Kyungsoo shrugs his shoulders, though Jeno notices some tension in his voice. "Of course I'm not going to get in the way of reuniting family, despite our bad blood."
"Nice to see you too Kyung." Baekhyun smiles, his lips making that familiar box shape that Jeno recognises from that day in the forest when he had given him his car. Kyungsoo doesn't offer a response.
Jaemin turns to look up at Chanyeol. He's not expecting anything, wouldn't be that surprised if Chanyeol decides to completely decline, after all Baekhyun hadn't been back to see him since he dropped him off on Chanyeol's doorstep two years ago.
Chanyeol had already taken Jaemin in, despite the danger. He wasn't in a position to entertain this. And yet, he relents.
"Of course he's welcome here."
"I won't get in the way." Baekhyun promised, voice firm. "I just want to see him."
"Catch up on two whole years." Kyungsoo chimes in with a grimace. "It's going to be a long week."
"Stay as long as you want." Chanyeol extends the invitation, though he looks a little reluctant to offer it. "We're doing a grocery shop haul later today anyway so write a list of what you want."
Baekhyun nods his head, smiling politely. Jeno takes it upon himself to gently push Jaemin away from their embrace, smiling encouragingly at him to move into Baekhyun's space.
He's a little hesitant at first, smiling awkwardly as he takes his arms back from their position around Jeno. But once Baekhyun opens himself up to the hug, Jaemin crashes into it with a squeal.
Baekhyun glances up at Chanyeol, all fight gone from his eyes. Jeno notices the tears that threaten to fall as Baekhyun's arms coil tighter around Jaemin's shoulders. He burrows into Jaemin's neck, inhaling loudly before sighing in contentment.
Jaemin was right. The morning had gotten better. It was beginning to feel like a dream come true.
