Chapter 17
"Well, isn't this a welcome reception?" A thick voice brought goosebumps to Jaemin's skin.
His breathing hitched as he watched them trickle out of the tree-line. There were ten of them, a little more than the recon team. Jaemin's heart thrummed in his chest when he realised that they still stood a chance, the pack still outnumbered the outsiders by two. They stood a chance if things went sour.
"I'm assuming that the humans have finally turned tail and run off for the hills?"
"Well, you've been watching our every move from the boundary. We didn't exactly have much of an option now did we?" Chanyeol's voice was easy to distinguish amongst the crowd. "What brings you wolves to our territory?"
"We thought that the land was rent-free, forgive us-"
"You've been lingering on the boundary for days, you knew the land was occupied. Pick a different excuse." Sehun's voice cut through with ease. "What are you doing here...?"
"What are they saying?" Jeno's voice echoes, pulling Jaemin back into the bedroom. "I need you to keep talking to me, I don't have your hearing capabilities."
They had decided to settle themselves into Jeno's room, against Chanyeol's original advice. The original plan had been for them to hide in the basement in the hope that the extra layer of gravel would keep them isolated from the approaching wolves, but Jeno had immediately disagreed.
For starters, he claimed that his closest wasn't located in the basement and if they wanted him to mask Jaemin's scent entirely then they would best be situated in his bedroom where Jeno's scent was most prominent. Secondly, and perhaps the most important detail, related to the basement having a lower vantage point. Jeno's experience with battle strategy games qualified him with enough knowledge to know that having a higher vantage point would aid them in their success had they needed to fight anyone.
Chanyeol had taken a moment to contemplate the information, before nodding his head and instructing Jeno to do what he deemed necessary. Hence, Jeno holding on tight to Jaemin's hips as they both took the stairs two at a time to the second floor.
From Jeno's bedroom they could see everything. It was perfectly situated to not only see the cobblestone driveway, but also the tree-line a stone's throw away from the front entrance. The same tree-line that Jaemin watched the offenders enter through. Jeno had placed Jaemin at the end of his bed and rushed to adjust the blinds which would obscure anyone else's vision if they tried looking upward, but would provide the hybrid with enough coverage to allow him to look out.
That's where Jaemin stayed as Jeno scrambles to look through his closet in the hope of finding clothing that he had worn in succession over the past few days. So far all he could locate was his university sweater which Jaemin had quickly pulled on seconds after it had been thrown at his head.
"We did not come for a fight." the leader announces much to Jaemin's relief.
He carries himself a little weirdly, almost like a limp but perhaps it should be described closer to a stammer. His hair was a dirty grey colour and he wore clothing the same shade as charcoal. Even from afar Jaemin can see his piercing blue eyes as they dart around the group waiting for them. His face is pale, perhaps a few shades lighter than his hair. But the most intense distinction was a vile scar that ran the entirety of the left hand side of his face, starting from his forehead and travelling through his eye, down his cheek, and ending at the sharp curve of his jawline.
"Do you recognise anyone?" Jeno's voice whispers against his ear, making Jaemin jump in surprise.
Jaemin takes a quick scan of the other wolves accompanying their leader. No one looks familiar, but it does little to calm Jaemin's heart. Just because he can't recognise these people doesn't mean that he's in the clear. Scar-face had claimed that they weren't here to fight, but that didn't mean that there wouldn't be one.
"No." Jaemin admits, turning his head just slightly to get a glimpse at Jeno's side profile. "Did you find any more clothing for me to wear?"
"Do you think you need it?" Jeno wonders, allowing his own head to tilt. Their eyes meet and Jaemin is reminded by how deeply enriching Jeno's brown eyes are. "I could take my shirt off and give it to you if you want, but I have a feeling you'd like that too much."
Jaemin can't help but laugh at the implication. "Are you really flirting with me when we could be attacked at any moment?"
"They can't hear me." Jeno reminds him, smiling happily as Jaemin's giggle continues to echo off his bedroom walls. "And it's calmed you down a little, hasn't it?"
Jaemin turns his gaze back to the window with burning cheeks, his lips struggling to conceal his smile. His heart thrums for an entirely different reason now. A wave of heat washes over him before settling in his stomach as Jeno's chin continues to remain against his shoulder. His overwhelming presence allows Jaemin to breathe and refocus on what is happening outside.
"I'm sure that you have been made aware of Caleb's tragic murder." Scar-face explains, looking solely at Chanyeol who continues to hold his position in front of the others.
"You're not going to get any sympathy from us," Minseok announces, which draws the attention of some of the other wolves. They sneer at his words, but don't step out of their own formation. "Caleb wasn't exactly the model wolf."
"I couldn't agree more!" Scar-face declares, nodding his head. "Caleb was a thorn in a lot of our sides so many of us won't exactly miss him now that he's gone. However, he was extremely important to our leader and he's been briefed. Unfortunately we don't have a lot of information regarding the situation."
"I still don't understand why you've come here." Chanyeol's eyes narrow.
"You're the closest pack to the Heritage Park where the unfortunate situation has unfolded, Chase would have been here himself to question you but some stuff has come up and he's out of the country right now."
"So he sends someone we've never met before?" Kyungsoo hums, nodding his head. "That sounds right."
"Look," Scar-face breaks away from his own group of wolves and closes in on Kyungsoo but Chanyeol slips in front of him before he could breach the gap. "I'm not exactly happy to be here either. But it was my pack that was there when he died and he somehow escaped us. Chase wants me to figure out what happened, or he'll have my head. So help me out here and as a sign of good faith I'll tell him that you were being very cooperative."
"Why should we help you?" Jisung's voice is weak but even Jaemin can feel the aggression behind it. "Chase hasn't done anything good for any of us, but now that Caleb's gone he expects everyone to help out from the goodness in their hearts?"
"Why you ungrateful-" One of Scar-face's minions breaks their rank and tries to break through the older boys in the pack.
Sehun grabs him by the neck and shoves him back over the imaginary line between them. "Keep your hands to yourself or risk losing them."
"What the hell is a vampire doing in your pack Park?" The injured wolf asks, eyes wide as his friends shove him back towards the back of their little diamond formation.
"Ask him." Chanyeol shrugs his shoulders. "I don't speak for any of my people. Sehun's free to go wherever he wants."
"Being here gives me a perfect opportunity to test out my abilities on dickheads like you." Sehun winks to the wolf who tried to attack Jisung. The offended wolf continues to massage his neck, his cheeks bright red. "You'd be surprised by how many of you people creep into this territory in the hope that it's still rent-free."
"Rent-free means that they thought that the territory was unoccupied right?" Jeno wonders, still trying to get himself accommodated with the vocabulary that came with his best friend being a werewolf.
Jaemin nods his head, foregoing a verbal confirmation since he was far too interested in hearing what was happening outside. Jeno lets him continue relaying the conversation, his thumbs rubbing encouraging circles into Jaemin's waist.
"Please pay no attention to my entourage, they're new to the whole Alpha thing. The change has clearly affected their manners." Scar-face tries to smile, but the marking on his face makes the left hand side of his lips pinch and unable to move. It creates a creepy half-smirk instead. "Forgive the intrusion but I really needed to say that I spoke with you."
"Chase's demands have a rather high intensity to them, don't they?" Chanyeol replies, watching as Scar-face's jaw lowers to release a laugh. "Well, you might as well get on with it."
Scar-face's right brow raises easily, his left on the other hand struggles to pull itself an inch. It makes him look suspicious rather than curious. Jaemin tries to keep a handle on his laughter, but even Jeno seems to be struggling with that one.
"What do you mean?"
"Well, aren't you going to ask if any of us were the ones to do it?" Chanyeol explains gesturing with his right hand towards his wolves. "It's only the natural thing to do in this scenario."
"Well did you?"
"I had many reasons to be the one to rip his heart out, but it wasn't me." Chanyeol shakes his head before taking a step to Scar-face's side. He gestures to Kyungsoo next, which causes Scar-face to gap in shock by their accommodating nature. "Kyungsoo?"
"Would have loved to see the blood spill out, but nope." Kyungsoo declines, coiling his arms against his chest. "Sehun didn't do it either, we were together at the time of the attack."
"Lucky for some." Sehun's glare is focused on one wolf amongst the opposing group, his lips coiled upward in a smile. Chanyeol nudges him in the shoulder as they pass, reminding him to keep his head calm and collected in the presence of others.
"I had a confidential phone call with a patient," Suho rolls his eyes when they come to stand in front of him. "Though my best guess would be Colonel Mustard with the candlestick."
"Now now darling." Yixing smiles, wrapping a protective arm around Suho's waist. When he turns to Scar-face his eyes are fierce and his smile borders on terrifying. "I was in my infirmary reviewing Haechan's file."
"And what about you two?" Scar-face wonders, throwing an insightful glance towards Renjun and Haechan who had taken it upon themselves to block anyone's view of Jisung.
"Keeping him company." They choired together with practiced ease. They stood with their arms crossed and a borderline devilish look to their faces. When Scar-face chanced a glance at Jisung, Haechan growled low in his throat and struck him with a far more intense glare.
"Can he corroborate your story?" Scar-face asks, eyes narrowing.
"Out of everyone here, I had far more motive to be the one to tear his head off." Jisung spat, eyes red from the tears in his eyes. "Caleb ordered my own parents to kill me, you try to find remorse for a monster like that. I'm just sorry that I wasn't the one to do it because I'll be honest and tell you that I wished for days afterward that I was."
"Jisung isn't one for grudges," Chanyeol explains to Scar-face who stands stiffly by Chanyeol's side. "But you can understand the exception. The boy isn't an orphan, his parents are very much alive. They just chose power over their own blood."
"They should have ended his suffering." One of the invading wolves whispers to his friend, seemingly forgetting that the entirety of both groups would be able to hear it.
Sehun and Kyungsoo have to physically place themselves between Renjun and Haechan who both growl at the statement. Jisung stands next to Mark who has a firm grip on his wrist, keeping him close.
"I'm afraid that I have to offer my apologies again," Scar-face's eyes are intense as he stares across the cobblestones at his own men. They waver beneath his gaze, shuffling on their feet. Not one of them could raise their head long enough to hold his eye. "Please forgive these incompetent idiots."
"One more and I'll be forced to remove you from our property." Chanyeol's voice is hard as he turns his attention from the offending wolf to Scar-face who simply nods at Chanyeol's understanding nature.
"I can assure you," Scar-face addresses his pack. "There will be no more unnecessary comments."
"Chanyeol's being very brave." Jeno comments, breaking Jaemin's immersion in the conversation. "I wouldn't have been so nice."
"Chanyeol's diplomatic. He knows that these men are only here because they're terrified of Chase. They're not looking for a fight, they just want to ask their questions and leave. Too much blood has already been spilt, they don't want themselves added to the picture."
"Wait," Jeno's rubbing halts against his waist, making Jaemin momentarily pout. "Does that mean that they know we've killed their teammates?"
"Oh yeah." Jaemin nods his head. "They already knew when they stepped into the boundary."
"And they're not mentioning it..." Jeno hums. "Why?"
"Because then they would have to admit that those men were their own." Jaemin explains, watching from the corner of his eye as Jeno's lips curl upward. The warm fingers return to their delightful curl and Jaemin sags against Jeno's chest in response. "They don't want another reason for Chanyeol to turn these peaceful talks into a full blown fight."
"So those jabs by the other wolves are said in frustration because they can't do anything else."
Jaemin allows himself to turn his attention from the window to actually hold Jeno's gaze. The human's eyes are bright and shimmering in the sunlight shining through the window. His dark hair has grown a little since his arrival but Jaemin finds the brown locks captivating.
"Exactly." He whispers into the air between them.
Jeno's breath hitches and Jaemin is surprised to have heard it. He examines Jeno's face in the hope of seeing a micro-expression that might provide him with understanding as to his sudden intake of breath, but he winds up with nothing, as usual. Jeno is such a difficult creature to understand. He doesn't offer out anything that could give away what he is either thinking or feeling. It can be quite frustrating, but Jaemin would be lying if he said that the mystery doesn't intrigue him.
"You may not have killed Caleb..." Scar-face's voice breaks through their staring contest, which makes Jaemin snap his attention back to the window. Jeno feels stiff against his back, but he falls straight back into relaying the conversation to Jeno's waiting ears. "But you know who did."
His revelation makes the group of invading wolves launch into quiet mutters, just low enough to avoid getting picked up by Jaemin's ears.
"We came here not only to ask questions, but also discuss a scent that lingered around Caleb's body. A scent that I can pick up here amongst you."
"Yeah," Mark announces, his voice easily cutting through the tension. "Me. Hi, I'm the new werewolf."
"Caleb turned you?" Scar-face gasps, his piercing blue eyes widening in surprise as he whips around to find Mark amongst the others. "He made a new wolf before his death?"
"Yeah." Mark agrees, huffing out a frustrated breath. "Against my will by the way. I didn't want anything got to do with him or this life-"
"None of that matters now," Scar-face observes him like Mark just appeared from thin air and hadn't been part of Chanyeol's group the entire time. "You've been given a gift by an incredible man-"
"Ha!" Mark falls into a fit of laughter which makes him lose his grip on Jisung. "An incredible man? Please, don't try to sugarcoat this after you were all just saying that he was a thorn in your side. Don't try to change the conversation now because you just realised that I'm here. I've been here since the start so please, continue with the truth because I will be second guessing everything you say otherwise."
"Fair point." Scar-face comments with a huff. He looks at Mark for a moment, seemingly contemplating his next few words carefully. "Caleb wasn't anything to be celebrated but he was one of the architects of our pack and as a founding member all of his creations are held with the utmost respect. You are his final creation, so it would be an honour if you join us."
"Join you?" Mark scoffs, glancing around at Chanyeol's crew with raised eyebrows. "Join the people who don't care for established territory? Join the people who speak ill of their dead? The people who would disrespect the problems that they've caused for others? Yeah, no thanks."
Mark's blatant refusal seemed to have knocked the invading wolf pack into a confused stupor. They glanced amongst each other, their lips curling into sneers as they dared bare their fangs.
Chanyeol slips in front of Mark, blocking their gaze and halting their approach. "Law states that a newly turned werewolf can decide of his own free will where he wishes to pledge his allegiance. You can not make him join you-"
"No." A voice rings out from the group. Jaemin struggles to find him amongst the crowd. "But we can force him. We've done it before, we know it works. That short-stack can tell you all about it. Why wouldn't it in this scenario?"
Jaemin half-expects Scar-face to rush to apologize for his wolf's behaviour, but even he seems to be weighing his options right now. His eyes trail to Jisung who hasn't been able to snap himself out of the wolf's comment about his parents, his PTSD playing out for everyone else to see. Renjun and Haechan close in on him, providing him with support but also blocking him from anyone else's gaze.
Jaemin's heart rate increases, his palms growing slightly clammy with worry.
"Give me a reason." Sehun's voice is void as he reminds everyone of his presence. "Cross that line, I dare you."
"None of that is necessary." Scar-face panics. Sehun pulled himself away from the imaginary line they had carved out into the cobblestones that divide the two wolf packs. "But I would like a moment to express our case."
"As he was made by one of you, I feel like that would be necessary" Chanyeol states. Jaemin wishes that he didn't. "But I swear to you, if another one of your wolves dare disrespect me or any of my wolves I won't hesitate to knock him to his knees. You're bordering that line, make your efforts clear or get the hell off my property."
Chanyeol and the others allow Scar-face room to approach Mark who is patiently waiting with a small smile on his face at the edge of their group. He's standing with his back stiff and his arms against his chest.
"You were given a gift," Scar-face tries to smile, but the marking on his face continues to rattle Jaemin's nerves. "We would like it if you were to come back with us to our camp. We would love to teach you everything that we know about our kind, the kind of things that old Chanyeol here certainly wouldn't like to touch on."
"That sounds like disrespect to me." Jeno admits, making Jaemin break from his train of thought. The hybrid giggles and gently brushes the back of his knuckles against his cheek.
"Oh?" Mark's brow raises.
Jeno struggles to hold back a laugh. His chest rumbles against Jaemin's back.
"Why are you laughing?" Jaemin wonders, unable to pull his gaze away from the scene. "What's going on?"
"Like what?" Mark's voice pierces through their conversation.
Jeno has long since learned to recognise his best friend's lack of interest. Mark often uses this tone of voice whenever he's being roped into a conversation by Stephanie during classes, when she is being particularly annoying. Most of the time it's tired responses to keep the conversation going so she could feel like she was finally getting somewhere with him. That was of course, before Mark decided it was time to deploy a bomb.
"Well," Scar-face shifts uncomfortably in his stance, his shoulders straightening as he tries (but fails) to appear taller than him. Mark makes a quick glance up to the window where he knows Jeno is watching, the eye roll was perfect. "Mates! Old Chanyeol here wouldn't know the first thing there is to know about mates since he hasn't been lucky enough to find one in all of the years that he's been a wolf."
"Is that the best you got?" Mark wonders.
Jeno cackles and Jaemin can't shake himself from the shock.
"No, I'm sure that he hasn't taught you anything about scenting either." Scar-face continues to add to the growing list of things that Chanyeol could do better on, but Jeno knows that Mark is letting everything go from one ear and out the other.
Jeno can't help but shiver as he is forced to remember his own uncomfortable conversation with the elder werewolf, his bright red face was a little difficult to get out of one's mind. Now it's Jaemin's turn to laugh at Jeno's reaction.
Scar-face was exactly like Stephanie, but with bad hair and a terrible fashion sense.
"I don't think I will ever get over that conversation," Mark admits. His body trembles beneath the force of the shiver that rattles his body. Jaemin almost bursts a lung. "Anything else?"
"I'm sure they haven't addressed the dramatic personality changes that come from being a werewolf, have you started noticing the constant feeling of anger or frustration-"
"Only right now when I'm listening to you right now."
The bomb finally dropped.
It snaps Jaemin out of his laughter, his lower jaw hanging open in surprise. Jeno on the other hand can't stop the smile from plastering itself onto his lips. For the first time in days, he finally managed to get a glimpse of his best friend.
"Is there anything else that you think that I should know?" Mark yawns. "Maybe you can teach me about how Mommy and Daddy wolves get it on while you're at it, huh?"
Scar-face staggers backwards. It was merely a misplaced step, but even Jeno can see the evident shock that slips onto his face. It's gone within a second of its appearance. His stagger leaves Mark open to return to his spot next to Jisung who welcomes him back to his side with a faint smile on his lips. Even Renjun and Haechan appear surprised by the words, both of them looking up at Mark with astonishment in their gazes. Mark offers them both a small smile of his own, wrapping his arm back around Jisung's shoulders.
"Maybe Chanyeol should have told you one very important thing about mates," Scar-face states, a bitter look on his face as he waits for Mark to lift his gaze. "Wolves only have one. So, keep that in mind before you make your decision."
"Dude," Mark snaps, secretly hating the fact that his fangs haven't grown in yet. "Your leader may have been the one to turn me into a werewolf - against my will- but like Chanyeol says I have every opportunity to consider where I decide to go. No last minute desperation attempt is going to sway me and if you think that I'm going to let you talk about these people in any way that isn't respectful, you have another thing coming."
"So, I suppose you have made your decision?"
"No." Mark states, watching as Scar-face's right brow raises. "I just know that I will not be going with you." Mark takes a deep breath, his eyes trailing behind him before returning to the intruding wolves ahead. "You realised that Caleb made a new wolf and you thought it would be a good idea to track him down, you've done that. Here I am, and here is where I plan to stay for now. Unless you want me to show you exactly what I learned in my fighting techniques class than I suggest that you get the fuck off the property because I'm with Jisung on this one. Grudges are very real and my emotions aren't exactly on your side right now."
"Like he said," Chanyeol cuts through the conversation with ease. "Caleb turned him against his will. He doesn't have any reason to feel obligated to follow you. He's not exactly happy with being a werewolf despite everything that comes with it. But he's right, he put Minseok and Sehun through the ringer at training. I'd be careful when debating your options."
"Training?" Jaemin sounds surprised. Jeno pulls his hand away from the rubbing to gently take Jaemin's clammy hand into his own. "When did he do that?"
"He hasn't." Jeno explains, keeping a careful eye on the situation unfolding before them. "But they don't need to know that."
"He's going to start a fight, Jeno." Jaemin's voice creeps higher, his fingers coiling around Jeno's palm.
"No, he's not."
"Fine." Scar-face relents with a forced grimace. "That's perfectly fine pup. If you have decided that this be your home for now, then who are we to drag you away from it-?"
Jaemin watches as Scar-face's brows furrow in the centre of his forehead. Out of instinct Jaemin lowers his head and gently sniffs at the university hoodie on his torso.
Jaemin's blood goes cold in his veins.
Cookie dough.
"Jeno..." He whispers, gripping his hold on Jeno's hand tighter. "I can't smell you anymore."
"What?"
"I can't smell you. I can only smell myself, your hoodie isn't working."
"Forgive me," Scar-face shakes himself out of his thoughts, his head on a swivel as he scans the entirety of the area around them. "Is this everyone in your pack?" He aims the question at Chanyeol.
"One's gone to drop Mark's parents off at the airport." Minseok explains, watching as the group of wolves seem to have caught on to the scent their leader picked up on.
Jaemin's breathing becomes erratic. Jeno starts to grow weary as he keeps his peripheral vision on the window. Jaemin is all he can see as he turns his head on his shoulder. Jaemin's pink hair is tousled in crazy wisps. His chest is heaving for breath.
Jeno takes a breath to calm his own nerves before the scent finally tickles his own nostrils.
Cookie dough.
Fuck.
"When someone gets worked up about something, you can smell the emotion on them." Sehun's voice announces itself like it had done that morning in the kitchen.
"Jaemin, you need to calm down."
"I can't." He whispers, tears filling his eyes. "I think I'm going to have a panic attack."
"Surely there must be someone else." Scar-face announces.
Jeno can practically smell the trap that Scar-Face is cooking up. If he doesn't get Jaemin's scent under control, there will be a fight to keep them from invading the house.
"Why do you sound so concerned?" Mark questions, stalling for time. "You've gone pale. Is everything alright with you?"
Jeno's heart rate escalates as his mind is overrun with possibilities.
Scent.
How the hell is he supposed to hide Jaemin's scent when his clothing and bedroom can't mask it?
"Claimed? Like ownership?" His voice echoes in his head from that rather uncomfortable conversation he had with Chanyeol about scenting.
"Not really. It's more of a possessive thing. By agreeing to scent someone, you're essentially coating them in your scent. Giving them a part of you that no one else can possess. Wolves - as you know - have high senses so we know that everyone in the entire world has a distinct smell that's purely their own. When you agree to scent someone, you're quite literally giving that person a piece of yourself. It also broadcasts to other wolves that you're in a relationship and the person scented shouldn't come to harm otherwise they'll have you to deal with. Wolves are territorial, so it sort of translates to us as well."
Jeno needed the intruding wolves to think that he was claiming someone, so they couldn't connect Jaemin to their location. Jaemin's cookie dough scent was already out there, but now it was Jeno's problem to cover it. Jaemin was panicking, which was making his own scent pierce through their perfect plan.
But how the hell was Jeno supposed to get him smelling like him when his hoodie and bedroom weren't working?
"The best way to get someone smelling like you is by coating them in bodily fluids." Jeno can practically see Renjun's smirk in his head as his words creep back in from his subconscious.
Bodily fluids.
Jaemin is half vampire.
Jeno pulls himself away from Jaemin's shoulder and crawls off the bed. Without dropping his hold on Jaemin's wrist, Jeno gently pulls the hybrid up to his feet. Jaemin's eyes are wide when he finally blinks them open. The silence continues on outside and Jeno can feel the tension of the two groups seep through the window.
"Bite me."
"Wh-what?" Jaemin's lower jaw drops as he scrambles within Jeno's tight grip. "Have you absolutely lost your mind?"
"Bodily fluids are the only way that I can get you smelling like me since our clothing trick seems to have gone bust. Obviously given the circumstances I'm not going to be able to get anything up right now, and I doubt that you'd be open to letting me lick you, so you have to bite me."
Jaemin looks scandalized but his breathing has returned to normal. His cheeks are blossoming into that bright pink that Jeno secretly adores. He's searching for something in Jeno's eyes and Jeno just hopes that he finds it quickly because there is no way that he's going to let a fight unfold at the front entrance.
"I don't mind the licking-"
"It won't be enough. I need you to be completely covered in my scent and this is the only way that we can do it quickly. Those wolves out there know someone's in here so I have to make it seem like you're claimed, we can't have them connecting your scent to you. My blood will quite literally be in you so you will smell exactly like me until it passes out of your system, now take out those pearly whites and bite me!"
"Jeno-"
"Jaemin, we don't have time for the vampire politics that could be involved in this. I give you my consent if that's what you need, now come on!"
"Does anyone else smell Cookie dough?" Scar-face wonders, looking back towards his group of invading wolves.
"Yeah." They all holler. Jeno doesn't need to be able to see them to know that they are all gearing themselves up to attack.
"Jaemin." Jeno gently pulls at Jaemin's chin to turn the boy away from the window. Jaemin's eyes are wide when they finally focus on him again. "It's okay. You're not going to hurt me baby, but I need you to bite me right now or we will have a fight on our hands that no one down there is really ready for."
"What if I take too much?" Jaemin whimpers, allowing a tear to spill out from his eye. Jeno gently wipes it away, leaning farther into Jaemin's personal space.
"You won't sweetheart." Jeno whispers. Jaemin swallows the lump in his throat before finally allowing himself to be guided to Jeno's neck. His breathing is erratic against Jeno's skin but he lets his grip tighten against the back of Jaemin's neck, keeping him there. "Just take as much as you need to smell like me."
"Okay..." Jaemin speaks against his skin, his lips causing goosebumps to break out along the expanse of Jeno's arms.
Jeno would be lying if he said that he hadn't been wondering about this exact moment. Ever since he had learned about Jaemin's classification, Jeno has spent a few minutes a day wondering if there would ever come a time when he might have to offer Jaemin his blood. He certainly didn't expect it to be so soon, and he definitely didn't expect for it to be part of a life-and-death scenario.
Jaemin gently nuzzles the top of his nose along the length of Jeno's neck, his breath hot against his skin. It brings about a shiver of anticipation that originates from Jeno's stomach and sprouts throughout his nerve endings. Jaemin's tongue is skillful as it traces the expanse of Jeno's mastoid muscle. Finally he lets his fangs grow.
A searing pain bursts from his neck and travels downward towards his collarbone. Jeno almost recoils from the initial piercing feeling, but Jaemin's hands hold his head in place. The hybrid groans in pleasure as Jeno's blood practically explodes into his mouth.
Jeno sags at the feeling of his blood flowing, but he doesn't find himself loathing it. His fingers, which were hanging by his sides, came up to rest against the curve of Jaemin's waist. Their heat makes Jaemin pull him even closer, diminishing the space between them. Jeno bites his lower lip to hold back a moan of his own as their groins smash together from the intensity.
His heart starts to race in his chest, continuing to pump the blood needed to scab the wound on his neck. Jaemin's tongue continues to lap at the blood, preventing it from healing itself. Jeno quickly realizes that there is something else happening right here.
Jeno forces himself to think of every horrible thing that he's ever seen, heard about, or experienced in his life. His grip on Jaemin's waist grows a little tighter as he tries to keep it steady and at a safe distance from his own, but the hybrid continues to whimper against his neck. Which is doing nothing for Jeno's restraint.
"Jaemin," Jeno speaks through gritted teeth. "I can't smell you anymore."
"No." Jaemin whispers, blood trickling down his chin as he pulls back just enough to respond. "I still don't smell you on me yet."
"But your scent is gone."
"They need to know that I'm claimed." Jaemin begs, crowding back up into Jeno's space. "They need to know that I belong to you."
Jeno groaned as Jaemin returned his attention to Jeno's neck where his tongue traced the unbroken skin to gather up the spilt blood that had slipped through the wound while they talked. Jeno's hold on Jaemin's waist grew tighter still as he tried to control himself and Jaemin's hips. But the hybrid was able to grind his hips forward, snapping Jeno's fragile nerve.
Out of what can only be described as pure instinct, Jeno lowers himself just low enough to wrap a hand behind Jaemin's knee. The leg comes off the floor which gives Jeno a perfect opportunity to fully lift Jaemin from the ground. The hybrid immediately coils both of his legs around Jeno's waist.
The human carefully slips his arms beneath Jaemin's ass, lifting him into a comfortable position before he slams him up against the wall right next to the window. Jaemin moans and grinds his ass against Jeno's pelvis which has him hissing out a gasp. Jaemin's hands pull at Jeno's hair forcing his head to the side which allows him to have better access to Jeno's neck wound.
"Fuck..." Jaemin moans against his neck, his blunt human teeth pull at the skin right next to the wound before his lips immediately curl around the abused welt and suck at the skin. His tongue gently presses against the new bruise, the sudden lick making Jeno's hips curl up against Jaemin. "Shit!"
"Did you get enough?" Jeno wonders, his voice breathless.
"Just another second," Jaemin moans, throwing his head back as their hips continue to collide. "They'll realise in a second."
Jeno watches as the exact shade of pink from Jaemin's hair blooms on his cheeks as he lays his head back against the blue walls of Jeno's bedroom. His own neck is completely empty of all abuse and Jeno can't help but find that unfair.
When his lips do come down on the expanse of Jaemin's neck, the reaction is immediate. Jaemin's legs tighten around his waist, his hips stuttering in their recoil before slamming downward against Jeno's upward thrust. His lips are ruby red from the struggle to keep himself quiet, his fingers unrelenting as he holds Jeno against his skin.
"Oh wow that's really-" Scar-face announces but it falls on deaf ears as Jaemin's moan finally slips from his lips. It's loud enough to completely cut off the intruding wolf's sentence.
"As you can tell, my best friend is otherwise preoccupied.." Mark states with a surprisingly calm voice.
Jaemin's moan continues as Jeno lets himself travel at the expense of Jaemin's neck. His lips continue to suck marks of his own into the pale skin, bringing purple and blue to the surface. Jaemin starts to tremble beneath Jeno's ministrations, his legs quivering as Jeno continues to hold him up against the wall.
"We could go and get them both if you prefer? But I don't know how well one of them will take it to be pulled away from his new partner. Do you?" Chanyeol's voice is a little more surprised than Mark's was but at least his words seem to snap Scar-face and the other wolves into action.
"That won't be necessary," Scar-face rushes to announce. "I wish the happy couple well. I will also stress to Chase that everything seems to be in order and if he wants to follow up he is more than welcome to."
"Of course." Chanyeol nods his head, offering out his hand for a handshake. "Until our next meeting?"
"Please let it be a while away." Scar-face tries to smile but the smirk is the only thing that comes. He sends the house one last glance before retreating the tree-line with his wolves.
Their departure doesn't stop either of them from their new positioning. Jaemin's cookie dough has long since dispersed in the air around them, letting Jeno's scent gather in the air around them. It doesn't stop either of them from their actions.
Jaemin continues to grind helplessly against Jeno's waist, his breathing close to panting now as his eyes sink closed. Jeno continues to impose his own markings along the expanse of Jaemin's neck.
However, the steady stream of blood trickling from Jeno's neck forces him to gently place Jaemin back down to the ground. The hybrid practically groans in distaste before he realizes that Jeno's struggling.
"Oh my Gosh!" He blinks the pleasure away, his eyes widening at the sight of Jeno's collar soaked with his blood. "I'm so sorry."
"I just need a bandage." Jeno admits, finding his mouth has gone dry. "Maybe a towel?"
"Come here," Jaemin scrambles to bring him closer. Jeno stumbles up against him, balancing against the wall. "I'll give you some of my blood. It will heal you-"
"Sehun wouldn't like that." Jeno shakes his head.
He feels dizzy and Jaemin smells amazing. His head collides against Jaemin's shoulder and just like that Jeno feels like he's flying.
When he reopens his eyes a little later, he's surprised to find himself in the living room. He's laid out on the couch that he had laid Mark down on when they arrived. Yixing was standing over him, offering him a small smile.
"Hey there Jen." He gently moves his patient's head. Jeno groans at the feeling of the dried blood. "How are you feeling?"
"Light headed." Jeno admits. "What's the damage Doc?"
"Well we didn't need vampire blood after all."
That is surprising.
"Really?" Jeno accepts the hand held out for him. "Bandage?"
"Not necessary either."
"It healed when I brought you down here." Jaemin sounds devastated when he speaks. Jeno follows his voice and finds him sitting in front of the fireplace, disheveled and hair a mess. "You really scared me there for a second Jen."
"Ah yes." Jeno nods his head, groaning under the dizziness. "My mysterious healing abilities. They always kick in when we least expect it huh?"
"I thought I killed you." Jaemin hisses. Jeno doesn't find it all that terrifying.
"I don't die easily." Jeno admits, laughing quietly to himself at the humor behind it. His eyes narrow when Jaemin doesn't follow suit. "Look, I'm fine, okay? Nothing some sugar won't fix."
"One coke can coming up!" Jisung announces his presence with a happy cheer. Jeno watches as Jisung trails into the room with the bright red can in hand like a trophy. "Hyung you really scared us there for a minute!"
"How long was I out?"
"You never actually had a chance to pass out." Yixing chuckles. It's breathy, meaning even he is surprised. "Get that sugar into you and then meet me downstairs so I can run some tests."
"I'm fine."
"You're not fine." Mark's voice is filled with venom. Jeno finds him standing by the door, his hands fisted by his sides. "You got your blood drained when we had wolves outside our doorstep. He took too much from you-"
"No, he didn't." Jeno deadpanned, pausing for a minute to chug a mouthful of the Coke. "I got distracted and didn't put a band aid on it when I should have. He's not to blame for this."
"What the hell did you get distracted with?" Mark snaps, reminding his best friend that he's still a dickhead.
"Listening to them realize Jaemin is claimed and then leave." Jeno explains with ease, chancing a quick glance over to the hybrid. He feels a little upset seeing that all of his hard work had disappeared along Jaemin's neck. "Anything else you want to yell at me for?"
"Yeah." Mark agrees. "Pack your bags, we're leaving."
"What?" Jeno feels whiplash set into his muscles. "Why?"
