Chapter four
Lindsey was terrified for Stevie's well being, seeing the tiny things that she would get hit over. He knew he couldn't go in and check on her because he wasn't allowed back into the diner, so he had to follow her to the laundromat, hoping she wouldn't be angry.
Lindsey shushed Jack as he approached Stevie in the laundromat, "Stevie...."
"Lindsey...please..." She turned and looked at him with tears in her eyes. "I can't leave you in this situation with a good conscious."
"Well it's you that's now put me there!"
"Look, I can protect you. I have my own tour security so you'll never worry about Ricky."
"Lindsey...you don't even know me..." she said, smiling at Jack, who was gurgling at her.
"So? I still want to help you. I would help anyone in this situation."
"Can I...can I hold him?" She asked ignoring him. "Let me help you."
"Maybe...okay..." Lindsey handed over Jack to her. Stevie took him and lifted him above herself, bringing him back down to her chest
"Hello there!"
"He has taken a liking to you."
"Well I think he's the most precious thing!" She kissed his forehead sweetly. "He's a very friendly baby, always has been."
"Takes after your daddy then, don't you" she cooed. "I think so, he's such a good baby."
"He must be very good for his mama"
"I haven't heard of him causing much trouble."
"Do you not get too see him much?"
"No, not when I'm on tour or working on albums."
"Do you have any other children?" She asked, moving Jack to her hip. "No, no time for them either," Lindsey chuckled
"Well he's just precious..." Stevie said, almost finished with her laundry. "Thank you," Lindsey jotted his number down on a piece of paper and handed it to her, "Call me if you ever need me for anything."
"Thank you!" Stevie gave Jack a little kiss and handed him back over, giving Lindsey a quick hug and rushing off again, she'd been too long already. Lindsey said a silent prayer for Stevie, moseying his way down the street to his car. "Jack Jack, do you think Mommy would mind if Daddy kept you for the night?" bouncing the baby softly. Jack smiled at him and gurgled, Lindsey stopping at a payphone to call Carol Ann, hoping she'd let him keep his son for a little longer.
"Hey Carol...would it be alright if Jack spent the night with me?"
"Lindsey! I'm so glad you asked, take him for the night sure! I've got a date and don't need him hanging around if you know what I mean..." she chuckled. "Yeah, I know what you mean," Lindsey rolled his eyes, hoping to quickly end the conversation. "Great, well just bring him back whenever alright, thanks Lindsey" he went to answer but she'd already hung up.
"It's just you and me, kid," Lindsey kissed Jack's head, walking to his car and buckling him in.
At Lindsey's house he had finally gotten Jack settled into his room. "I know you're not used to this place. If you get scared Daddy is right across the hall..." Lindsey was surprised at how quickly Jack fell asleep, it was like it's where he slept every night.
Walking down stairs he grabbed a beer, deciding he would watch a movie, he must of been tired because he fell asleep about ten minuets in. The phone rang in the middle of the night, Lindsey jumping to grab it before it woke Jack. "Hello?" He asked groggily.
"Lindsey!" They sobbed, it was Stevie...
"Stevie...?" He panicked "what's the matter honey?"
"I think I killed Rick..."
