Spencer walked into his last period class exhausted and frustrated, JJ and Will had done nothing but flirt all period leaving him to do the lab all by himself. He went to sit in his usual spot at the back of the calculus class but found someone else there instead. "Um excuse me I believe you're in my spot."

"Well you weren't here so it's mine now." The girl responded with a smirk, Spencer couldn't help but notice the dark makeup.

"You're Emily Prentiss right? Will Lamontange's stepsister." He sat in the desk next to hers.

"So you're familiar with the creep?"

"He's a creep?" Spence's eyes widened worried about JJ.

"Relax ringworm I don't think he swings that way." Emily winked.

Spencer's face went red he was flabbergasted. "I'm not... I just... Uh JJ... My friend really good friend and uh Will... You know..."

"The preppy blonde soccer chick? I think she came over yesterday."

"Oh..."

Emily reached across the desk and patted his hand. "So calculus huh?"

"Functions bore me." Spencer smiled as Emily let out a chuckle, her laugh was contagious making him laugh too.

"You know you're kinda cute ringworm..." The black haired girl blushed.

"Oh... Thank you... You're um very fun to talk to."

On the way home from school JJ dragged Spencer to their neighbourhood park, it had rained that morning so all park equipment was covered in dew. JJ ran cross the field getting blades of grass stuck on her knee high grey boots. She ran to the swings and stood on one then started swinging. "So Spence I was wanted to ask you something."

Spencer joined her on the neighbouring swing. "Sure what is it?"

"Well homecoming is a few weeks away, and I know we normally go as a group with Aaron, Derek and Pen... But I was wondering if it would be okay if I had a date?"

This definitely had not been the question the genius was hoping to be asked. "You mean Will?"

JJ blushed slightly averting her eyes. "Well he hasn't asked me yet but I'm hoping he will."

"Go ahead."

JJ jumped off the swing and jumped in circles in front of Reid. "Thank you!"

"It's no problem, I was going to ask someone too..."

"Really? That's awesomeness! Who is it?"

"It's kind of a surprise I don't want to jinx it."

"Of course, let's go play on the slide."

The brunette's eyes drifted to the soaking wet play ground. "Are you sure that's a good idea Jayje? Your jeans will get soaked."

"It's Thursday pizza and movie night, I'm just getting changed into pyjamas when we get home."

"Right pizza night..."

"You forgot!?"

"I don't forget things, it was just misplaced in my mind."

Grade nine homecoming was not what Spencer expected, too many people and way too much dancing.

"Hey pretty boy lets go dance!" Morgan called through the crowd a bunch of the freshman girls and a few sophomore even juniors were grinding up against him.

"No thanks! I prefer this cheap lawn chair we're forced to sit on!"

He heard giggled from behind him, he turned to find JJ and Garcia laughing.
"Oh baby face you need to live a little, dance with us on the next song."

Spencer couldn't help but smile, he had found a pattern in the music for every four upbeat songs there was one slow song, and the fourth upbeat song was just about to end.

The beginning chords of JJ's (at the time) favourite song began to play, Spencer shot out of his seat and headed to JJ. "Do you want to dance"

"I'd love to."

He placed his hands on her waist while her hands wrapped around his neck.
"You know Jen, this is a really sad song."

JJ rested her head against his chest, her blonde hair that she had spent an hour straightening sprawled across his shirt... It smelled like lilacs. "I know but I can't help but love it..."

"Spence I am really glad you agreed to come tonight, I didn't want to be alone."

"You wouldn't be alone Garcia and Morgan are here with you."

Spencer pulled the petite girl closer to him then kissed the top of her head. "I love you, you know that?"

"I love you too, even when you ask me stupid questions just like that."

"I guess I'll always have to ask you stupid questions."

"And I'll always answer them." JJ leaned up and gave him a peck on the cheek just as the song was ending. "Are you staying over tonight?"

"Where else would I spend my Friday night?"

The following Monday Spencer stormed early into his calculus class, but somehow Emily still managed to beat him there.

"Hey ringworm how was your weekend-"

"Will you go to homecoming with me?" Spencer blurted out without having a second thought.

"Uh sure, sounds cool I guess..."

"Okay uh I'll pick you up at seven then or we can sort that out later?"

"Well Will asked JJ last night so we can double date or something, Will has a car..."

"Sounds fun..." Spencer sighed.

JJ ran down the hallway trying to catch up with Spencer, she kept screaming his name down the hallway but he just kept going. "Spencer Andrew Reid!" The hallway got quiet, Spencer stopped and the people in the hall began mumbling and snickering. "Don't you dare walk away from me!"

Reid slowly turned around forcefully playing with the strap of his mail bag. "What do you want Jennifer?" He managed to choke out. In one fell swoop JJ grabbed his arm and dragged him into the janitors closet. Spencer jumped as the door slammed close behind her.

"Why are you avoiding me?"

"I'm not-"

"Don't you are start lying to me Spencer Reid because I will kick your ass from here to the moon!" Spencer swallowed which was pointless as his mouth was dry. "Look Spence we can still go as a group... But I want to go with Will... As a date..."

"I have a date JJ, I'm taking Emily Prentiss."

A smile grew across JJ's face, she was so proud of her best friend, he had asked someone out on his own! "We can double date! It'll be perfect! Okay sorry I'm not mad anymore!"
JJ danced around him a circle for a few minutes until she realized how long they had been in the closet. "Well we should probably go..."

"Yeah we should..."

JJ stepped out first instantly running into someone. "Guess what Will, Spence is taking Emily to homecoming we can all go together!"

Will didn't say anything at first he just looked between JJ and Spencer who was standing in the doorway of the closet with a sheepish look on his face. "Oh great, well I guess I'm driving huh?" He let out a forced laugh. "Not a problem cher."

Spencer could of sworn Will sent a look his way, and it wasn't a nice one.
