Storm Inside
Xania stared at Dunkar's toppled over body, freaking out; her vision blurred, and her breath grew shaky as she slipped into a trance watching her unconscious friend.
He needs you. You can't lose your grip. She snapped back into reality, weighing her options.
An idea clicked into her head, and she quickly set her frost gun to spray mode. Once a thin layer of ice covered his suit, she realized it would never be enough. He used an entire ice capsule in minutes, and those suckers lasted her gun over a month, sometimes more depending on usage. With how quickly he wore out, she doubted any amount of ice would make a difference.
Putting away the pistol, she contemplated her next move. Use your power. The thought resonated in her mind. "It'll never work," she sighed, looking down as she reasoned out loud. Last time she attempted to use her power, she had barely fizzled out an ice cube, but that was ages ago.
"I have to try," Xania resolved, opening her hands. Her insides wrenched as she began began to summon her power. Performing the mystic arts always took a toll on her body. The air became cooler around her, the sudden gusts of wind sending chills down her spine. Frost formed around her now shivering hands, climbing up her body.
Placing her hands on Dunkar's already frosted over armor, Xania let loose. Ice exploded out of her body, coating everything around her in a frozen bliss.
Staring down at her somehow intact body, Xania couldn't believe she'd managed it.
I did that?
She wished Amber would hurry up with help. She didn't even have a way of telling if her self-created winter wonderland made any difference at all. Come to think of it, she wasn't cold at all. It was only during the casting process that her body succumbed.
Breathing out a foggy mist, she took a step forward, immediately falling on her butt.
"Oof," she grunted, looking around at the ice-coated ground. As she picked herself up, she stared at the white trunks and shattering leaves.
Dragging herself to a tree beside Dunkar, she rested against it. Her once black jacket was now covered in ice, alongside her dark jeans and grey combat boots.
She felt her heart rate lower, and grew confused as she started shivering out of nowhere. Eventually unaware of her situation entirely, she blinked one more time before losing consciousness.
