Chapter 49
I've been running for about an hour. I was expecting myself to feel more...relieved and cooled down..but I don't. If anything I feel more stressed for some reason. What is wrong with me? Why are my emotions going everywhere? Damn I feel like such a female. I stop running and begin to just walk for a bit. I look around and recognize the place instantly. This was the place where I danced with Izzy on our first date.
I remember the way we moved together, how we both felt at that very moment. My arms were around her, ready to protect her, to die for her if necessary, but it seems our roles were reversed. She's the one that died for me.
Xander get back to the house right now!
I hear Soul's voice in my head. I stand up and feel my bones reforming, my skin shifting into the wolf. I turn around and sprint back to my home. I start to see the lights of my house up ahead.
I quickly stop and shift behind a tree. I grab my shorts and run inside the house. As soon as I'm inside, I know that something was very very...very wrong. I look down when I feel something hit me. It was a piece of paper. I grab and see that it was my son's drawing of that fairy lady. I look around. there was pieces of paper everywhere. My brows pull together. Where is he?
Soul enters from the lounge area. "So what's going on?" I Ask.
I see him fidget a little bit. That's strange. He never does that. "Soul? spit it out! What was the emergency?"
"It's Xavier."
I step closer to him, "What about him?" I growled.
"H-he's gone. We don't know where he is."
I grab Soul by the collar and shoved him against the wall, "You were supposed to watch him!" I snarled.
"I thought he was here drawing. And when I went to check on him, he was gone and the door was wide open!"
"So you're saying someone took him?"
She shakes his head, "I don't think so, if someone did take him, they would have to come inside and I would've smelled them."
"So what you're really saying is my son, by his own choice, ran away?"
"That's the only conclusion we've come to."
I was in so much rage. Xavier was the only piece of Izzy left. I shoved Soul against the wall again. I then jumped out the door and into the woods to try find my son.
SOUL's POV:
I've sent teams out to go and search for Xavier. But all of them have come back with nothing. Xander hasn't come back yet, he would probably well beyond our boarders in search for his son. It all seems to hopeless.
I walk towards the window and look at the night sky, "Please, he's been through enough."
XANDER'S POV:
I've been searching for hours. Still no sign of him. Not even his scent. I don't know where he could've gone. I fall to my knees. "You take my mate...and now my son. How dare you. HOW DARE YOU!" I shout, "I have been in pain for four years and now you want to make it grow, do you? What is wrong with you! Haven't I been through enough you bitch!" I yell to the Moon Goddess.
"Hehe stop it that tickles!" I lift my head when I heard giggling. "Impossible." I whispered.
I stay still for a minute and listen. Another sound, "I'm going to miss you."
I know that voice, "Xavier." a spark of hope. I quietly crawl towards the bush the sound came from. As I get closer, I hear the rushing sound of something. Is that water?
I peek over the bush. My heart stops. "Nightcrowe Waterfall." I whispered to myself. And in the middle of it was my son. He was in the arms of some cloaked figure. I growled deeply. The figure instantly stands up, pushing Xavie behind it. This just made me even more angry. How dare this person take my pup! I step out of the bush and stand to my full length. Compared to this cloaked person, I was a tower.
"Papa?" Xavier whispered.
"Son, come here." He looked like he wanted to, but seemed hesitant. I frowned at his reaction. He's usually so obediant.
The cloaked figure, looked like it was shaking. He stepped out of the way and motioned for Xavier to go to me. And he did. Why is my son obeying this stranger? A slight breeze was in the air. But it wasn't that, that made my heart stop, it was the smell it carried. It wasn't strong at all, but it was there. "Impossible."
Suddenly the cloaked figure ran away. I turned to my son, "You stay right where you are Xav! You do not move!" I then went after the cloaked person. It was pretty fast for such a small person.
"Hey! Come back here! Please!" I shouted, "I won't hurt you!" The hood of her cloak fell. Out came the most silkiest brown hair I have ever seen. It was a girl. I heard her gasp in fright. She ended up running behind a tree. When I got there, she was already gone.
I stood there, panting in shock. "That's impossible. Impossible." I kept mumbling to myself.
I turned around and went back to my son. He was sitting on the bank of the waterfall, playing with the little fishes.
I place myself next to him, "Who is that person Xav?"
"Ummm it's the fairy lady." He says while playjng.
"The fairy lady?"
He nods hi head, "Yeah, I meet her everyday here."
"Everyday?"
"Mmmm hmm."
"And what do you guys do?"
"We play. But my favourite is story time."
I nod my head, "Okay yeah...and what kind of stories does she tell you."
"Stories about witches, wizards, mermaids, wolves and stuff."
"Xav...you can't come back here."
He instantly drops what he's doing and turns to me, "That's not fair!"
"It is fair! I don't know this person!"
"Yes you do!" He shouts. As soon as he said it, he went pale. "I-I-I mean you should try get to know her then."
My heart didn't set right with what he said...he's hiding something.
I shake my head, "You're not going back and that's final!"
I see his eyes water and his lips quiver. Then his whole face scrunched up as he started to cry.
I sigh while I bent down to Carry him, but he slaps my hand away. Xav stomps off towards the house and I follow closely behind him. I let him be grumpy at me. It was better than him hanging out with a complete stranger. Or maybe it wasn't a stranger.
Once we got home, Xav ran upstairs and into his room.
"So you found him?"
I look at Noah and sigh, "Yeah."
"Where was he?"
"He found the waterfall."
Noah's brows raised in surprised, "How?"
"I don't know, but he has been spending time there everyday."
"Since when?"
"I don't know."
"What does he do there?"
"He hangs out with a woman."
"A woman? A witch?"
I shake my head, "No...she smelt like someone I haven't smelt in a long time. Someone I thought was dead."
Noah's eyes widen, "No." He says in disbelief.
But I nod my head and whisper, "Izzy."
***
I lye in bed restlessly, holding the wolf pendant that Izzy bought me.
"She's dead." I say to myself . I've been saying this all night. I'm trying to wake myself up. It is impossible for me to smell her scent. She is gone. I close my eyes and just accept it. It is clear that my mind is just getting addled. My mind becomes more calm now as I felt myself slowly fade away into sleep. Finally.
I open my eyes. Morning. I groan as I turn over to see the time. 6:00 AM. I grunt because I know that I won't get back to sleep. Might as well get a head start on work. I climb out of bed and walk to my office, not even bothered to get changed. I sit on my chair and look at all my paper work and meetings with packs I have to go to. I lye back against my chair and groan in annoyance. I look up at the roof as I play with my pendant. I always play around with it with my fingers whenever I get stressed. My thumb brushed on something at the back. Something rough and imbedded. My brows pull together. What is that? I look down and flip my pendant over to that there is a little dark smudge at the back. Its just a smudge that has always been there. I run my thumb over again and feel this strange rough outline on it. I look closer and closer. Trying to focus on it. Then it dawned on my mind. It's a smudge, its words. Tiny, tiny words. I was taken back by my discovery, for all these years how could I jot have seen this. I grab a magnifying glass to see what these words were saying. Up close it said.
What you see, isn't what you, but what you wish to see is your reality. Nose, eyes, ears cannot be, cannot save, sight given by the child like faith.
"What the hell does that mean?" I can't wrap my head around it. Child like faith? What even is child like faith?
I get out of my chair and walk to the window. The sun is rising. I feel the warmth of the light on my skin which gives me comfort. I rub my face and groan. What is happening! Everything was good, depressed and calm before. Now it's up in the air! Everything is going crazy. My son goes missing, then I find him but meet this strange lady which reminds me of someone that is supposed to be dead! and now I find this secret writing at the back of my pendant which I thought was a smudge! And it talks about freaking child like faith?
"Breakfast!" I hear Zapora shout out. I hear everyone rushing down stairs to get their first pick of bacon. I decided to try figure this strange situation out after breakfast when I'm more awake and less angry. I climb down the stairs and into the kitchen. "Morning." I said.
Zapora was at the fridge getting out some orange juice and said, "Morning sunshine. You're up bright and early? Whats up?"
I go to my sister and lean my hip against the bench, "Can I ask you a question?"
"You already did. I rolled my eyes while I heard her laugh, "Cheer up. Now what did you want to ask me."
"What is child-like faith?"
"Why?"
"Just wondering."
"Child like faith is...its like just simply believing. A child would believe in anything no matter how crazy or impossible it seems, but with all their heart they are totally and utterly convinced that what they believe in will come true. I mean, if you told a little girl that her prince was coming to get her one day, she would totally believe it."
I leaned down and gave my little sister a little kiss on her forehead, "Thanks Zapora." I rushed up the stairs and into my office shaking. M-maybe this is what I was supposed to do? I never believed that she would be alive. I never thought that would be possible because I watched her die, but...smelling that scent when I did...it woke me up. I collapsed back on the chair because my knees could hold me up from much longer. I couldn't handle this information. I thought the love of my life was dead for the last four years and now I just came to the conclusion that maybe...just maybe she isn't. My heartbeat was like a humming bird.
I got up off my chair and walked to Xavier's room. "Hey little man." He's on the floor drawing 'the lady' again. I sit next to him and nudge him a little with my elbow, "Hey Xav, when do you usually meet this fairy lady?"
He frowns, "Why? DO you want to meet her?"
I nod my head, "Yeah buddy I do."
Xav got up and took my hand, "Come, I'll take you to her."
"No Xav, I have to see her alone." My son's little brows scrunch together into a deep frown, "You're not going to hurt her, are you papa?"
I couldn't help but smile at my son. He's already to strong and protective. "No son, I just wanted to meet her because she seems like a nice lady."
He nods his head. He slowly leans down towards my ear and whisper, "I meet her in the place that is hidden, but only a blind man can enter." I frown. "What does that mean Xav? Who told you that?"
"The lady told me that. She said that anyone could really enter it, but they can't because they can see, they need to be blind."
"But what does that mean?" I ask impatiently.
He laughs at me. I start to get angry and anxious. I grab Xav's shoulders firmly, "Son, do not play around, this is serious. You need to be clear. I am not in the mood to try and figure out another riddle. PLease!"
Xav looks into my eyes and look my son, the only bit of Izzy have left, "You gotta help your papa right now son."
Xav nods his head, "If a wolf is blind, then what does it do to get around and avoid danger? or find safety?"
I ponder over it. The only defect the has is it's sight. so in order for them to sense what is good and what is not..."Instinct" I whispered. Xav smiles at me nods his head. "Thank you son!" I kiss him on the forehead and rush out.
I run, or more like jump down the stairs. I burst through the door in a rush towards the forest. I stop right at the edge. Look into it. I can't rely on sight for this. I have to base everything totally on instinct. I close my eyes and step into the darkest of the forest.
I use my senses to guide me on where to go. I remember telling Izzy that where ever she was, I would always find her, no matter what. I can't break that promise, "I'm gonna find you Izzy. I'm coming." I whispered to myself.
After I got more used to not seeing, I found myself running. I felt my heart beating so hard against my chest, not because I was running, but because of hope. There was hope that there might be a slight possibility that my Izzy, my lttle Luna, is still out there and alone. My inner wolf growled out, I need to find. I keep running till I feel my whole body become engulfed with water. I swam to the surface. I look around and see that I ran into the waterfall. I look around. it was Nightcrowe. I climb out of the little circle pool. I look around the place, "Hello?" I hear a female voice, "Xavier is that you? I brought you that fruit that you like. Do you want me to-" The woman in the cloak comes into view from the trees. She gasped when she saw me and stilled. I see her chest heaving air, in and out. "Who are you?" I ask? She turns to run. But I growled, "Don't you dare!" She stilled. I can see her shaking through the cloak. I slowly walk to her. The cloak hid her face. "You are the woman that has been spending time with my son." She nods her head.
I lean in and smell her. I growl down at her, "Why do you smell so much like her? Why do you play games with my mind? Are you a witch?" She shakes her head.
I see her head scanning my body. It stops at the level of my pendant. I go to take the hood off, but she backs away like a wounded animal. She turns around and runs. I chase her. "Hey! Come back here! I just want to talk!" She keeps running. She starts to throw fruits at me. "Ouch!" Ugh! I'm done playing nice. I sprint after her and tackle her to the ground. She tries to push me off, but I take a hold of her wrists and put them above her head. We both breath heavily. I take off the hood. We both still. We look into each others eyes. My breath gets taken from me. "I know those eyes," I whispered. I lean down to look closer, "Izzy," I whispered.
"Xander," She whispered back.
I get up and away from her, "PLease tell me that I'm not dreaming."
Her eyes are shining with unshed tears. "No...you found me."
I am so in shock. "So, you're real?" I walk towards her and touch her hand. The spark ignited. I look back into her eyes, "This is real." I whispered.
She smiles and nods her head, "You see me," she said with a shaky voice.
"I see you."
I couldn't take it anymore. I went to Izzy and pulled her against me. She wrapped her arms around my waist and hugged me back tightly "For all these years, I thought you were dead," I felt my eyes sting with tears. "I thought you were dead."
"Without you, I might as well have been." She sobbed.
I picked her up bridal style. I carried her towards a rock were I sat down and placed her on my lap. She hadn't stopped hugging. And I really hope she never will. "How is this possible?" I ask her.
She release my neck and sat back a little to see my face, "You do deserve an explanation..." She took a deep breath and started, "When Matheseus took me to the woods, he had a with with him. I met her before in the cells. She was a daughter of a powerful witch. Anyways, Matheseus made her put a curse on me. I was to be trapped at Nightcrowe waterfall forever. No one was to get in or get out. But, me and that witch kind of bonded in those cells. I told her about you and how I was pregnant. She had sympathy for me. So she made a way out of the curse. The curse ca only be lifted when you, my mate, truly believed that I would be alive. But it had to be you alone. I couldn't give you any hints. You had to believe all on your own."
"So you've been here for four years?"
I nod my head, "Yeah, but..." she looked down and smiled through her tears, " But then I met Xavier and...oh Xander he's so beautiful!" Tears rolled down her cheeks, "I thought I would never see him, but Xander he is so big and strong! When I found out he was my son, I knew that one day you'd find me. I knew you'd keep your promise no matter what. I had faith in you."
I held her to me as if she was gonna disappear. "I'm never letting you go."
She lay her head on my chest. "You know what I missed most?" She asked.
"What?"
"Your smell." She lay her head on my shoulder so than she press her face against my neck. "When I have your scent, I feel safe."
I held a bit more tighter. "I've missed you so much Izzy." I brought her face down to mine. I pressed my lips to hers for the first time in four years. She held my face in her soft hands and I held her waist. This felt so right. The first time in years I've felt so happy.
"Papa?" We both broke our kiss and saw that Xavier was here. His face scrunched in confusion, "Ummm why are you kissing the fairy lady?"
We both chuckled, "Come over here buddy, I want to introduce you to someone."
He walks to us cautiously. I gesture to Izzy, "This is Elizabeth Nightwalker, your mama."
Xav's eyes widen into big orbs "Y-you were my mama the whole time?"
Izzy nods her head, "Yes, I'm sorry but I wasn't allowed to tell you."
Xav didn't seem to mind. I think he was just in shock that he has his mother back. He runs to Izzy and jumps on her. She laughs as she catches him. Xav just rest on Izzy with his eyes closed as Izzy strokes his hair. "Please don't leave me again." He whispered.
She kisses his forehead and replied, "I'm not going anywhere."
She looks up at me and smiled.
My heart didn't feel dark anymore. It felt so much more whole. I lean down and hold them both in my arms. My family.
"Finally." He whispered.
