1.Hollow's Test
“Today’s weather has a 75% chance of rainstorms, so if you plan on going out today, be sure to take an umbrella.” It’s rare to have clouds here where I live, but when indeed there are then you’ll always find me in the best of moods. Well that’s because the sun is my enemy, whenever it’s sunny (which is like every day here) I always get burned in the end. Literally. And I never believe what the reports say; even when it’s 102% of rain and clouds it’s always the complete opposite. Sigh. Maybe I should just skip school today, but then again…maybe I should just quit school. I’ve been dead for over a month now and I’m still going to school. I must be the stupidest person to roam the Earth. Oh my, did I just admit to myself that I’m stupid? Well no surprise, everyone calls me that. And with what I’m now, it only made myself more confused so how the hell am I supposed to go to school and work my undead brain? Sigh.
Nah, I’ll only probably raise suspicion ‘cause you know I’m famous around here. So I quickly grabbed all my books and threw them in my book bag. I quickly ran out my room and jumped over the railing of the stairs. I landed perfectly on my two feet on the wooden floor. I ran out and locked the door behind me. I threw the keys into the bag and grabbed my bicycle. I didn’t live that far from my school, it was actually right around the block, but I’m late so walking’s not an option. I peddled as fast as I can and reached the school in about a minute time. I could see late children rushing in while others already sat at their desks from what I could see through the windows. I silently cursed to myself and rushed up the stairs.
I grabbed the handle of the door and opened it. I rushed in but stopped as I realized that the class’ eyes were on me. The teacher wasn’t even there yet so I was safe. I quickly straighten myself out and went to my desk which was right in the corner of the room, farthest from the windows. The stares drifted from me back to their conversations. I sighed quietly to myself and scanned the room of all the non-absentees. Next moment someone was messing up my blonde with black tips hair to what you might find in a metal band. I sighed long and deep like it was a drag, which it was. I tilted my head back until I could see the guilty laughing silently to himself.
“You look good man.” He said giving me the thumbs up. He flipped his chocolate hair back as if he was Justin Bieber. He stared at me with the same coloured eyes, as if I was a suspect at a murder case.
“Dude,” I finally said, breaking the awkward silence, “you’re killing me here.” He lifted his one brow, eyeing me evilly.
“Then it’s working!” He said as if he was a mad genius then giggled evilly.
“Seriously Sora, what the hell?” The evil giggle vanished from his face, replaced by an expressionless face. Then a wide smile spread across his face and closed his eyes.
“Guess.” I rolled my eyes and stared back at him.
“Um, I don’t know. The new Night of the Zombies Dead game came out?” Sora gasped dramatically, making me roll my eyes at him. “So I take that as a yes?”
“Yeah dude. After school, your house.”
“Can’t.”
“Why not? It’s weekend baby!” He said long and draggy. I tilted my head forward a little and quickly thought about a pretty good excuse. I got it! I lowered my head down and sighed. I made my face looked as if I was about to cry. “Oh jeez dude, what’s wrong?” I shook my head slowly.
“It’s just…” sigh “…my grandmother died and I’m supposed to visit my grandfather this weekend.”
“Jeez dude, I’m sorry. We can do it some other time then, K?” I nodded and looked in front to the board. Wow our teacher has never been this late! I tried eavesdropping on the girls around me. They are somehow always the first ones to who what’s happening around the school. Hmm, another pregnant girl, seriously? Why is this school full of bastards! Oh it seems all of the teachers won’t be coming today ‘cause of some drunken bitch who destroyed 4 classrooms’ windows, messed up the cafeteria and even ripped up test results. It looks like she was either very drunk or very angry, or very both.
Well now you also know that I’m in High School. I only have one more semester before I graduate from this hell hole, and I’m not doing bad here. I’m actually one of the top students and get straight A’s. That’s why I said if I just disappeared that people will notice is because of my high standard also because there’s just one semester left then I’ll be finished anyway. See? I’m actually smart and not as stupid as I’m claimed to be! Some students decided to ditch because nothing’s going to happen today. I still wonder if I know this girl. I rolled my eyes as one of my rivals for the top spot entered the room. Through my turquoise eyes I could clearly see that he wasn’t in the brightest of moods. He has longish black hair and light brown eyes. His expression this morning was the one that said stay away or die. Next to me Sora tried whispering to me but I rolled my eyes and only nodded in understanding of whatever the hell he might be talking about.
“So Troid, what are you doing this vacation?” I shook my head fast and widened my eyes.
“Um, oh yeah it’s almost break! Haha.” He looked at me expressionless.
“Dude…did you seriously forget?” Yeah I really did forget. Vacation starts next week Wednesday and about a month later the last semester starts. So today and next week the 3 days we won’t do much I can tell you. Not with that girl and the test results torn up.
“Umm yeah, totally forgot. I’m not doing much, you?”
“Dude.” He stared at me. I sighed.
“What?”
“You seriously need a girlfriend.”
“No way. No way.” Not when I’m already dead. “Anyway do you know what’s up with Ace?” I’m referring to my rival, the dude who’s not in the best of moods today, and usually he’s so cheerful. Haha no, he’s emo but he’s never like this. Sora shook his head.
“Nope. But from what I’ve heard from these lovely young ladies♥ that chick who got drunk was his cousin.”
“Cousin? Well he must be pretty embarrassed.”
“Embarrassed? Dude look at him, does he look like the type who’ll we embarrassed?” Hmmm
“You’ve got a point there. Ace would rather die than feel embarrassed.” Sora began laughing.
“Well dude, you wanna ditch?” I thought for a moment.
“What if the teacher comes back? I don’t wanna be the ‘think he’s to cool and can ditch smart ass.’”
“Then what about the ‘already ditched with girlfriends dumb asses.’?” I rolled my eyes and eyed him.
“What does that make you?” He was about to answer but shut his mouth and thought for a moment.
“Whatever. Let’s ditch.”
“And go where?”
“Dude. I don’t know! We can go skate boarding or pull pranks or or we can go up to the haunted house and have a test of courage.”
“Test of courage?” Well I’ll be the one scaring the shit out him but it seems legit.
“Yeah, that’s where everyone’s headed.” I rolled my eyes and stared at him. Sigh.
“Fine, whatever.” Sora jumped up but fell off his chair that made me laugh.
“So, where is this haunted house?” He slowly climbed back onto his chair.
“Umm, you know that old abandoned house on the mountain behind the school?” I looked at him with a wide mouth.
“There’s a mountain behind the school?” I said dramatically. Obviously sarcastic. He eyed me.
“Yeah well they decided to use that building for a haunted house and it became so popular that’s its making millions already. Seriously, how don’t you know about it?”
“If it’s making millions then it must be expensive and full. So how are we supposed to enter?” Sora rolled his eyes at me and sighed.
“Don’t question. Let’s just go.” I didn’t protest and stood up. I grabbed my book bag and followed the excited Sora. This is will be the first time I ever ditched school. But going to a haunted house so early in the morning won’t make it as scary as it would be if it were night. But what the hell, this could be fun. At some time Sora began yelling at me for being so slow. We grabbed our bikes and peddled up the mountain.
The mountain was more of a hill so it wasn’t that high. In about 10 min we reached the top. It was just as he said. An old abandoned building, actually more of a mansion. It had about 5 floors and took all the space on top of the hill. It looks so old that if you touched the walls it could easily break. We could see some of our class mates out there talking. Girls hugged their boyfriends, and some people were even dressed as monsters. They probably think they can scare their friends. There were other students I didn’t recognize, it was a large crowd.
“SO what are we doing?” I asked.
“Well I know this buddy who has a friend whose girlfriend has a friend who has a girlfriend who has a buddy that’s the son of the owner of the mansion. And he decided to let all the friends of his son in for free.”
“So somehow it includes us and also apparently the entire grade 10 ‘till 12?”
“Yup. The dude’s pretty popular you see and-“
“Ok whatever. What are we waiting for?” The doors then creaked open and an old man with a crane made of bones stepped out. He had scars all over his face and body. He was really short and had a thick curly moustache under his nose. He held his hands up and laughed evilly.
“Welcome to the Hollow’s one and only haunted house! Be sure you go into pairs and always keep your guard up! There are things in here that you can’t even start to imagine!” Oh, you mean me? “There are mazes and illusions in there! Monsters like vampires, werewolves, zombies, gargoyles, and even more! If you really get scared and squeamish then turn back now, while you still can!” Some girls started screaming and held onto their boyfriends. Sora began poking me in my side with his elbow.
“What is it?” I rolled my eyes.
“So…you still wanna go?”
“Still wanna go?! Man I’m freaking excited over here! Can’t we just go already!” Everyone started entering the mansion slowly. We were last in. Everyone was already far ahead of us but from the screams I can only assume something’s coming.
“So hey…” Sora poked me. “You think you’ll get scared?” I started laughing.
“You serious? No way!” Then Sora stopped. His jaw hung open. His eyes shaking. I stopped and stared at him. A liquid began dripping from Sora’s face and down his body. I looked up. It was dark so I couldn’t really see anything. But I saw long slender legs and razor sharp fangs. It was a spider. Oh, it was way bigger than a normal spider! Sora bit his lower lip and tried looking away, ignoring the saliva rolling down his body. He began freaking out when the invisible goo turned red. His expression turned into a fowl disgusting face. I laughed at his expression.
“What you laughing at?!” I couldn’t stop. I shut my mouth when I felt something scally touch my face. I looked up and saw this massive spider touching my face. It was more realistic then I thought. Sora gave up and started screaming. He ran down the hall as fast as he can, not looking back. He’s a real bastard for leaving me! I sighed and looked up at the spider. It wasn’t as big as I thought it was. I grabbed the legs that held me tight and threw it over my shoulder and onto the creaky floor. I could see sparks fly from it so obviously it’s electronically controlled. I sighed and looked down the hall which was filled with my sissy friend’s scream. Sigh. I began walking down the hall with my hands in my pockets. I totally change my mind.
I shouldn’t have ditched, this is going to be utterly boring. Skeletons jumped out of nowhere and people dressed up as vampires, werewolves, zombies and more tried pulling me into random rooms which I assume has even more fake monsters in. I totally lost sight of Sora after a room with blood running down the walls with a haunting message. Sora and I’ve been friends since kinder-garden, so more or less 14 years.
He can read me like an open book and write an endless book about me. It’s impossible to keep anything away from him, but in the last month I’ve succeeded from hiding my undead secret. But then again…in the last month doubts about me rose up in his mind, I can tell. I always avoid him if not in school. I don’t know why but it just feels right to keep him away from me, and he’s not liking it one bit. It all happened a little more than a month ago, the day of my death. I was roaming the streets at night, not the best decision regarding that there’s a serial killer on the loose. I heard some screams from a house.
I was panicking, not knowing if I should call the police or run. But I went on anyway, I was so stupid. I began screaming when I saw three dead bodies on the ground and blood all over the room. I was about to run but I was interrupted by a bullet straight through my heart. I fell down to the floor and watched the blood run from my body. I could see a wide smile across the man’s face. His face was blurry and with my dying breath I muttered a curse at him. My eyes closed and I followed the light. Sigh. If only it was a white light, and not the one I followed.
Somehow only a few people in the world have the special ‘ability’ of dying and coming back to life. Well, that’s the only conclusion I can come up with. For all I know it could even me a necromancer who brought me back, or a vampire. Wait, am I a vampire? Maybe a shinigami. As you can tell I’m completely clueless in this situation. Well…I guess I’m not the only one, taking it that you also have no idea what I am. Hehe well I guess I should tell you. I am undead, I can still feel pain but I can never die, seeing as I’m already dead. It’s actually simple.
