Mark sighed and watched as his legs and arms filled up with drawings. He shook his head, scoffing.

Okay, fine. What do you want?

The drawings started to disappear and left just the conversation on his arm.

Yay!!! Tell me about you, Mark!!!

Mark sighed once again, realizing he was going to be here for a while.

What do you wanna know...

How old are you? When is your birthday??

22. September 4th, 1993.

Oh! You're older than me. I'm 22 also, but my birthday is March 28th, 1994~

Niiiice.

Where do you live?

You sound like a stalker.

You're my soul mate!~

No.

Yes? That's why I can write on you!

You can't be my soul mate.

Why...?

You're nothing like me. You made my childhood a living hell.

You don't like me...?

Mark waited a minute before he responded, biting his lip.

Nope.

He didn't receive a response after that. He felt somewhat bad, for being so blunt to the other. But he didn't write on his skin again. Not for a while.

He went on with his life. Went to work, watched as all his friends and family united with their soul mates.

. . .

On one of his days off later that year, he met up with his friend Jinyoung, who had recently met his soulmate. A pretty girl, she looked exactly like his type. They seemed happy together. The caught up and had lunch together, and they were the perfect couple. Always laughing at each other's jokes, leaning against each other, just so content with one another.

It made Mark hurt. He wish that his soul mate journey had been that easy, but of course he had something that was over his head. It always happened like that.

"What about you, Mark? Where is your soul mate?" Jinyoung would ask him, and Mark would give him a blank stare.

"I don't have one," he said, looking down at the granite table.

Jinyoung gave a light hearted laugh. "Of course you do, everyone does. Quit playing around."

"I don't," Mark says, shrugging.

"Have you ever talked to her? Has she ever written on you?" Jinyoung asks, resting his chin against his hand.

"Oh, we've talked," Mark says, "Except he's not a girl."

Jinyoung's eyes widened a bit. "What... What do you mean?"

Mark hesitated. "His name is Jackson. That's what he said."

Jinyoung huffed. "Are you sure? You could've read the handwriting wrong."

Mark shook his head, "No, I can read. He has pretty clear handwriting. He's a boy."

"Mark, you can tell us if you're gay. We won't judge you," Jinyoung says, giving a soft, supportive smile.

"I'm not," Mark says, sighing. "I'm not. That's why I'm saying he's not my soul mate."

Jinyoung and the woman next to him exchange glances, sighing softly.

"Maybe you just don't know it yet." Jinyoung says, "I mean, the writings are never wrong. Everyone ends up with their soul mate."

Mark looks at him, "No." he shakes his head. "That's just not the case."

Jinyoung looks at him, sighing. "I'm not exactly sure what to tell you, then. Have you written to them lately?"

"No," Mark says, tapping his fingers on the table. "It's been a while. He kept asking about my life and I thought it was creepy so I told him that I didn't like him."

Jinyoung whines, "Mark! You can't just do that. You probably broke his heart. He probably really likes you," Jinyoung looks at him, "You gotta fix this."

Mark rolled his eyes, "No, I don't. I'll just be alone. Nothing new to me anyways," he says, "I'm just fine with that."

Jinyoung was starting to get annoyed now. "That's not how life works, Mark. Everyone gets their one person. You're destined with them. You can't just be alone. Don't you want to know what it's like to be in love?"

"No," Mark says, standing up. "I'm just fine without it, look at me." He grabs his cup, "I'll be on my way. Have fun with your soul mate." He says, leaving Jinyoung speechless as he walked away.
