THREE. even though you hate me, i'd take a cake for you

CALL IT wrong place wrong time or Zack Martin's lucky day. Lucky enough to have a cake land on him that is. But there's more to the story.

Raven found herself at the juice bar. To her dismay, Zack had to apply for a job on the boat in order to pay for his needs and well-being's since he spent every last dime on smoothie for people he found attractive, Raven included.

Raven stood up from the bar and began to walk away from Zack just in time for a cake to go flying in the air.

Raven smiled as she looked at it. Face full of cake wouldn't be the worst day of her life. She stood there next to a girl, but Zack stepped forward and took the cake for them.

It hit him pretty hard but no cake hit either of the girls.

"You saved me." The girl smiled, "I can't believe you would take a cake for me."

"I can." Raven scoffed, taking her finger and wiping it against Zack's arm to task the cake, "Call him Prince Charming while you're at it."

"It's no big deal." Zack smiled, "I still got less gunk in my hair than that guy."

The girl laughed and once again, Raven smiled quickly before it dropped. London soon approached the group and explained that the cake was for her dog.

"That explains the liver frosting." Raven said, licking the remain frosting off of her finger.

London held her dog, Ivana, up to Zack to allow her to lick the cake off of Zack's face.

After the boat was cleared of cake Raven sat down at a random table and watched as the girl cleaned cake off of Zack's face.

"Is that a freckle or a sprinkle?" She asked.

"Ow." Zack winced, "You know, actually, that's my eye."

"Get scrubbing." Raven said, "Maybe he'll see how well this is going for him."

The trio didn't argue as they heard the voice from the guy earlier.

"You got frosting on my Farnucci flip-flop."

"Dude! Five second rule. You can still eat that." Zack reassured.

The boy rolled his eyes and called the towel boy over, who just so happened to be Cody.

Cody also had a job after Zack used his student card after he spent all the money on his own.

Cody threw the boy a towel and continued to explain why he was working in the first place.

"Don't care. I asked for a towel boy, not boring-story boy."

"It's not boring if you wait till the end."

"But it is." Raven said, "And I was there to witness it."

The girl from before sighed and faced Zack once more, "Why don't you join us for dinner tonight in the grand dining room? Doesn't that sound nice, Ashton?"

"For him, maybe." Ashton said, "You might enjoy eating with utensils for a change."

"Dude, what gets stuck under my nails makes for a nice snack later."

Raven looked over, a scowl look on her face. He wasn't kidding, nothing was ever a joke with him unless he made it blatantly obvious.

"So you'll join us?"

"Yeah, I'd love to grub with you guys. Thanks for inviting me."

"I'm Violet." She introduced.

"I'm late for pilates." Ashton said and dragged Violet away from the duo.

"I think we hit it off." Zack smiled, joining Raven at the table, "Jealous?"

Raven sat her cup down and looked over at him, "You do this thing where you ruin the moment and I never want to interact with you again."

Zack raised his brows, "There was a moment between us?"

"In your dreams, maybe."

"Indeed." He smiled, "Come to dinner. My guest."

"You can't invite me to dinner."

"Why not?"

"She invited you Cake Boy, not me." Raven said, "And I'm not going to surround myself around people who are constantly thinking about themselves."

"Which is why you should come! Because I won't think about myself. I'll think about you."

Raven gave Zack one last look before leaving him alone.

She didn't get it. She wasn't attracted to him. She was frankly annoyed with his presence and yet something about her drew Zack towards her. Like a dog with a bone. It absolutely disgusted her.

And yet, here he was, dying for her attention.

AND WORD spreads fast on a boat. That Zack Martin was going to the first class part of the boat. Nothing new as he was the one to spread it.

Cassie came rushing into her shared room with Raven with a smile on her face.

"Why aren't you getting ready?" She asked.

Raven had been laying upside down on her bed with a book in her hands. She rolled over and furrowed her brows at the girl.

"What are you talking about?"

"Zack told me you were going to the first class dinner with the "hot chick" and her "douchy" friend."

Raven rolled her eyes and sat upright on the bed. She didn't think Zack would go out of his way to get her roommate involved with this. She was the only one Raven tolerated on the boat and he used that against her.

Clever.

"I'm not going to the dinner."

"But the food!" Cassie cried, "And you're not paying for it."

Cassie made a great point and whether or not she was on Zack's side in everything wouldn't be questioned in the moment.

"I have nothing to wear." Rave rebutted.

"Please." Cassie smiled, "Don't worry about clothes. It's not like you'll be there again." She laughed, "But, if you do go back" Cassie rushed towards her closet and pulled out various clothes and threw them in the bed, "just make sure to wash these when you go."

And Cassie wasn't taking no as an answer. At this point, Raven didn't know if Cassie wanted the room to herself for an hour or two or if she was actual on Zack's team for once.

But Raven prepared herself to go to this dinner and waited for Zack. If he came she would possibly go, but if didn't, she might actually grow to like him.

But nothing ever went Raven's way did it? Zack knocked on her door and Raven let out a loud groan, throwing her head back as she opened the door.

She looked down, as she was a few inches taller than he was and saw that he was wearing a suit and a smile wide on his face.

"Let's get this over with."

Raven shut the door behind her and made her way towards the diner and Zack slowly trailing behind, fist bumping himself as a sign of successfully getting Raven to "go out" with him.

The two arrived at the dinner and greeted the party with false smiles.

"Zack, you clean up nice!" Violet smiled.

"Well, lucky my brother has eight different kinds of loofahs."

Raven watched the two and rolled her eyes, "Yeah, you look nice Raven." She said, pitching her voice up before taking a seat.

Before she sat down, Zack pulled her chair out and she furrowed her brows. She was almost... disgusted by his actions. Why was he treating her so kindly tonight? Regardless, she sat down and Zack pushed her chair in.

"You must be Violet's sister." Zack smiled towards the older woman.

"Oh, please." Ashton scoffed.

The woman quickly hushed Ashton and allowed Zack to continue to speak. He thanked them for having him and Raven over and reached to shake her hand.

With that, it showed his suit had been too small and when it caught Raven's eye she held a small smile.

"Nice tux." Ashton spoke, "Maybe you'll grow into it someday."

Ms. Berg laughed at the joke and Zack took it with some pride, flipping the joke his way.

"You know what? I admit it!" Zack said, "It's a little roomy. I borrowed it from a friend. He's a waiter here."

"Good thing he's not friends with the waitress, or he'd be wearing a miniskirt."

"You know," Raven spoke, "some people have the face to pull of the majority of things they wear. I can't say the same half the table. Are we here for dinner or knockoff Adam Sandler?"

Zack smiled, "I do have the legs for it."

"Do you shave your legs?" Raven asked as he pulled his pant leg up.

He quickly pulled it down and sat down next to her.

Ashton stood and announced that he, in fact, had an announcement to make.

"Dude... you don't gotta announce it. Just go." Zack reassured.

"You were saying, Ashton?" Ms. Berg smiled.

"Yes, please make your announcement as it will prolong the dinner I have yet to see." Raven smiled.

"Why say it, when you can show it?" Ashton question. He pulled a black felt box out of her pocket and inside was the Kidney of the Sea.

"That's one tricked-out organ." Zack said.

"Louis XIV had it made for his sweetheart." Ashton ignored, "She had a kidney stone problem, and once passed one the size of, well, this."

"Ouch!" Zack exclaimed.

"Why would you want to be reminded of kidney stone you pooped out and caused immense pain?" Raven asked.

The two, once again were ignored and Ashton declared that the necklace would "grace the beck of my Violet".

"She loves it!"

Violet rested her fingers against the necklace. Her lips turned down as she did so.

"I make that same face when I look at Zack." Raven smiled, resting her elbows against the table, "True love."

Violet looked up from the neck, her expression never changing, "Mother, I can speak for myself." She looked over at Ashton, "It is beautiful."

"And she loves it!" Ms. Berg expressed, "She can wear it to my birthday gala tomorrow night. I'm going to be 30."

"Plus 20?" Raven questioned.

Her joke was ignored beside a smile from Zack and Ashton invited Violet to go dance with him. The two of them left leaving Zack and Raven alone with Violet's relatives.

"Wasn't that a wonderful gift?" Ms. Berg asked.

"It sure beats the candy bracelet I was gonna give her." Zack said.

Raven expressed wide eyes and began sipping on her drink. Ms. Berg furrowed her brows as she watched Zack violently chew on a piece of lettuce.

"Candy bracelet?" Ms. Berg questioned, "That seems like the perfect gift for your girlfriend there."

Raven quickly began choking on her drink. She set the cup down the shaky hands and water going everywhere. Zack reached over to pat her back.

"Great excuse to leave." She choked.

"We'll be leaving now." Zack said. He stood helping Raven to her feet and the two of them left the diner.

What Ms. Berg wasn't unnoticed obviously, but it wasn't going for be discussed when the girl was quite literally fighting for her life.

But Zack wouldn't forget it.

THE NEXT day Raven sat by the hot tub and Violet soon joined her side.

Raven pulled her sunglasses down and glanced over at the girl.

"Can I help you?" Raven asked.

Violet sat upright and held her knees close to her body, "Is Zack your boyfriend?"

Raven pushed her sunglasses back up and opened her book. She began reading the pages once more but once she glanced back over at Violet, she read the seriousness on her face.

"My God." She muttered. She shut her book and looked over at Violet, "No. I want nothing to do with him. You can gladly take him off my heads and wherever he else his eyes may linger."

Violet thanked the girl and ran towards the smoothie counter and Raven could only wish that this would've been her last encounter with rich people, but sadly, she was on the S.S. Tipton and rich people practically stank the boat up with all their richness.

Nightfall fell over the boat and Raven, though not allowed, was on the deck to get a smoothie.

She may not like the boy but he knew how to make a smoothie and he didn't charge her as much as the others. A win win in their eyes.

Ashton came over and said something about his smoothie being very lumpy and insisted that Zack fix it.

As Zack turned, standing on his tiptoes to use the blender, Ashton took the opportunity to place the neckless he'd given Violet into his pocket.

Raven smiled as she watched the interaction and waited to see what would happened next.

"Here you are. Enjoy your drink." Zack smugly spoke, "There's an empty table right behind you."

Ashton turned and Zack licked both ends of his straw before putting it in the cup.

Now, Raven was vile and had her moments, but she wasn't going to let anyone torment Zack unless it was her or his brother.

She called Zack over and asked if another smoothie.

He didn't question it and turned to make her another one.

She bent over the counter, reaching as far as she could to grab the neckless out of his pocket. She was able to do so and as soon as she grabbed it, balling it in her hands, Zack turned.

He smiled and stepped forward if that was feasibly possible.

"I knew you liked my smoothies, but is it worth causing a scene at a birthday gala."

Raven smiled, practically smirking, "Of course. Love it when a guy tries to act tall. It's very unfortunate that you're 5'2."

"I'm not 5'2." He scoffed.

"You're suit says otherwise."

She grabbed the smoothie from his hands and left the deck with the necklace in her hands.

Now, Zack was to blame for the missing necklace, especially when Ashton called him out, saying that the neckless was in his pockets... but it clearly wasn't. Mr. Mosbey had demanded he check all of Zack's pockets and no neckless.

Now, Raven wasn't going to take the blame for him. Never in her life. If she wanted to get caught for something she'd work for it. Not pay for other people's dirty work.

She was able to find out Ashton's suite number through the gossip girl herself, Cassie and with her in tow, took her to pick his lock.

"You're doing an awful lot to help Zack not get into trouble." Cassie said, rocking back and forth on her heels.

"It's simply because I like to play games with him."

"What?"

Raven stood to her feet and opened Ashton's door. His suite visibly larger than their shared bedroom.

"Zack would do anything for me. Not may guys would do that for a girl like me." Raven explained, "I do the teasing and tormenting and he'll eventually give me free smoothies."

Cassie only nodded, not really understanding why Raven would do this for smoothies.

Raven placed the necklace into the jacket pocket of Ashton's coat and she felt something else inside. She pulled it out and found his credit card. She slipped it into her pockets and ushered Cassie out of the room.

Ashton was soon caught lying about the necklace and it was found in his room. Violet broke up with him and threw the Kidney of Sea into the ocean.

Zack was cleared and wasn't being sent the jail for the actions he had nothing to do with in the first place.

The next day came along and Raven was sitting on the deck. She looked over her book and found a smoothie had been placed in front of her. She looked up and saw Zack standing in front of her.

"I didn't order this." Raven said.

"On the house." He smiled softly

Raven shut her book and gestured for Zack to take the seat across from her.

"Why?"

"I know you took the necklace out of my pocket when Ashton put it in my pocket."

"I don't think I did that."

Zack held his small smile, "I think you did. It got me out of going to jail. It's a thank you smoothie."

Raven returned the smile for a moment before grabbing the smoothie.

"Why'd you help me?"

"Because I don't find it funny when I'm not the one bothering you." She answered, "It's only funny when I do it."

Zack nodded and stood from his seat. He began making his way back to the bar.

"Zack?" Raven called. He turned with raised brows, "Thanks for the smoothie."

Zack nodded and returned to the bar.

Simple as that. He was going to push it any further for now. If he did it would ruin the interaction they had. He quickly learned that.

Yeah, he liked pushing her buttons, but only when he knew she wasn't going to push the conversation further.

This moment was different.

He didn't push it.

— lucy has something to say !!
