"Shut up!" I said putting my head under the pillow to block out the sound.
Beep
Beep
"Alright, I am up. Now please just shut up!" I muttered to the annoying sound coming from my phone. I opened eyes and stretched my arm to get my phone form the bedside table. I swiped my screen to make the sound stop.
I sighed and sat up. My sleep was long gone now but my eyes still wanted to close shut. I forcefully opened my eyes and look towards my phone to see the time. 6:00 am it said. A yawn escaped my lips. I climbed out of bed and walked towards my closet to get my clothes for a shower.
***
I opened my mouth to fill it with cornflakes. I chewed on it slowly, taking my time because I still had half an hour left before we started today's activities.
I heard footsteps coming closer to the kitchen. I already knew it was before looking. Yesterday's events were still on my mind. My emotions were still mixed up from last night. I didn't know if I should be scared or-
"Morning." I turned my head sharply at the sound of Leon's voice.
"Morning," I muttered softly and stared down at my bowl that was once filled with cornflakes.
"Ashely I am so sorry about last night. I didn't mean what I said. I was just stressed from work and-" he started to say but was cut off by me.
"Wait you work?" I asked surprised.
"Yes, part-time. Why do you look so surprised? Wait that is not the point, what I am trying to say is that it was wrong of me to say those words. I hope you have big enough heart to forgive me," Leon said in a sincere voice.
I looked up towards him to see him staring at me with pleading eyes. His back was straight and his legs were slightly parted. His hands were entwined together tightly. He was wearing a tight white shirt with a black blazer and blue jeans that fit him perfectly.
"Fine I forgive you but only because I still owe you for yesterday night," I said in a firm voice. I watched his face grow a gentle smile.
"Well then I am glad I accompanied you yesterday night," Leon said in a formal voice.
I stood up from my chair and walked to the sink to wash my bowl.
"Why are you wearing such formal clothes?" I asked.
"What do you mean? Isn't this what everybody wears?" he asked confused. His eyebrows scrunched together confused.
"No, not really. Normal guys wear T-shirts and faded jackets not a shirt and blazer," I said wiping the bowl with a dry cloth.
"So I guess I am not a normal guy," he said. I heard him open a few cupboards. I turned to look back at him to see him pulling out a chair to sit on.
"I'm just saying you will catch a lot of attention unless you want to get all the attention, then you are doing just the right thing," I said staring at Leon as he ate his cereal.
"Why are you jealous?" Leon asked me with an eyebrow raised.
"No I am just looking for you and me actually," I added once I thought about it, "If you get a lot of attention then maybe you will get more friends that will then come into the dorm and make a noise. So I won't be able to study or sleep."
"Maybe I don't need more friends. Have you ever thought of that?"
"Don't you ever feel uncomfortable in these clothes?"
"I grew up wearing these clothes."
"Who decided for a young boy to wear formal clothes all the time?"
"So what shall I wear then?" Leon asked standing up.
"What do you mean?" I asked confused.
"What shall I wear?" he asked as he washed his bowl.
"You are actually going to change. I mean sure to come on," I said grabbing his hand which made my hands buzz with electricity. I looked down at our hands and to his face. My face must have been in awe since Leon just gave me a small smile in return. His eyes were sparkling, almost as if he knew something that I didn't know.
"Wait let me finish washing this," Leon said.
"You can do that later. Come on. We don't have much time," I said to him and pulled him towards his room.
"Great," Leon muttered. As we went into his room he went straight to his closet.
"These are the clothes that I have," Leon stated, opening all the cupboard doors for me to have a look inside.
"Wow." I paused for a second before speaking again. "I have never seen a closet so big to have only one style of clothing."
"Why do you have so many black suits? I am sure one or two of them are more than enough."
"They aren't the same shade of black."
"They all seem black in colour to me."
"I have good vision."
"More like unusually supernatural vision. I am going to take you shopping." After I said that, I realized how demanding I sounded and quickly tried to mend what I said. "I mean, only if you are free and want to go shopping with me."
"Sure. I have a couple of hours to spare."
"Great. Just give me a minute to grab my shoes." I quickly put on my shoes on and steadily walked to the front door where Leon was waiting for me. He asked me if I had a shop, in particular, I wanted to buy his clothes from but I said I wasn't too sure, especially since I hadn't visited any shops since I arrived here. We caught a taxi and soon we were standing in what seemed like the main shopping street in this city.
"Do you believe in the supernatural world?"
"What?" I asked, startled at his question.
"You mentioned it earlier." I tilted my head to the side, trying to recollect where I said it, but nothing came to mind.
"I am sorry I can't remember." I smiled awkwardly at him.
"You have nothing to apologize for." Leon smiled down at me. I didn't know why, but whenever he smiled at me, I instantly felt the urge to smile back at him.
"So do you though. Believe in the supernatural world?"
"That's a tricky question."
"How so?" Leon asked, turning to walk into a store. I looked up to see 'Giorgio Armani' written in bold letters.
"I mean realistically speaking, I would say I don't believe in the supernatural world but then these strange, unusual events occur and it really makes me wonder if there is such a thing as a supernatural world." Leon's eyebrows furrowed, his forehead crinkling slightly as he comprehended what I said. I knew that he was going to ask me about the latter part, but he was interrupted by a salesman.
"Goodmorning Mr-" Before the salesman could finish his sentence, Leon interrupted him. "Leon." I wondered why he cut him off. Was there something about his surname? Though what really stood out to me was the fact that the salesman knew his name. This meant that Leon shopped here regularly. Whatever suspicions I had of Leon being rich was confirmed.
"Yes, of course. Leon." The salesman paused slightly saying his name. It was almost as if, it was paining him to say his name. "This way to the formal section sir."
"Actually, I am here to buy some casual clothing." Again, the salesman went still.
"Yes, of course. The casual clothing is around the corner, sir." As the salesman showed us where the clothing was, I looked around the store in awe. There were couches by each section of clothing and high glass walls were by the couches, giving it a very aesthetic look. All the pieces of clothing were neatly hanging off the racks, the shoes were neatly placed on the shelves. Each pair of shoes had its own shelf. There was a sense of exclusivity here that you wouldn't get in a normal clothing store.
"Here, we are. I will be right over there if you need me." The salesman said, bowing his head gently and walking away. I frowned at his bow but didn't have time to contemplate it because Leon told me to look at the T-shirts.
After a few minutes of looking at all the options and giving my favorite T-shirts to Leon, I told him to try on the clothes. While I was waiting for Leon to try on the clothes, I walked around the store. The clothes looked exquisite. I saw the tag of one of the pieces of clothing hanging out and I checked it, only for me to get a small heart attack. I knew that the clothes here would be expensive, but this more than I expected it to be. I then wondered about how much the T-shirts I gave Leon were. After a few more minutes of waiting, Leon finally emerged with almost half the amount of T-shirts than when he went into the change rooms with. "Please bill these for me," Leon said, handing over the T-shirt to the salesman.
"Of course, sir."
"Shouldn't we follow him? Because you still need to pay him."
"He will just add it to my account. Don't worry."
"A frequent shopper here?"
"More like a loyal customer," Leon said, smiling softly at me. "Did you find anything nice?"
"You will need to be more specific. This whole store is nice." I said, laughing.
"If you want to buy something, feel free to buy it. You can just add it to my account."
"Thank you for the offer, but I am not a freeloader."
"You aren't a freeloader. You would just be accepting a gift."
"A very expensive gift," I said, giving Leon a pointed look. I didn't know what it was about Loen, but he was just very easy to talk to. I didn't feel the urge to hide and close myself from him. It was strange how I felt safe with him- considering the short space of time I have known him. Even on the way back to our dorm, the silence that filled the air wasn't awkward. It was in fact very peaceful.
"Okay," Leon said finally, "These are all the T-shirts we bought."
"Great! Now help me spread all the clothes across the bed."
"Why do you need to do that?" Leon asked. I picked three T-shirts and spread them across the bed.
"Do want to try each one of these T-shirts?"
"No!"
"Thought so. Now, are you going to help me?"
"Sure," Leon said. Silence filled the air as we spread the remaining T-shirts.
"Okay, done. What now?" Leon asked me. His left eyebrow rose questionably.
"First take off that blazer," I commanded, "Now stay silent." I took T-shirts and put them to Leon's chest to see which suited him the best. After trying all the T-shirts I finally made my decision.
"Here you go," I said, handing him the tight-fitting black T-shirt. Leon took the T-shirt from me and went to his bathroom to change. After a minute he immerged out of the bathroom, fully dressed.
"How did you change so fast?" I asked with shock.
"I am a fast changer," Leon said immediately.
"Oh," I said back stupidly. After that silence filled the room again.
"We should get going," Leon said breaking the silence.
"Yes we should," I said and went and wore my shoes. I took my bag and walked out of the dorm.
"What happened last night, Ashley?" Leon asked me. I froze not knowing what to say. My mind flashed back to what had happened.
"Nothing," I said hastily. I knew that he didn't believe me when I saw his face scrunch up.
"Don't lie to me, Ashley."
"I am not lying!" My voice had become higher, giving him more reason to not believe me.
"What are you so scared of, Ashely?"
"Nothing," I lied again. I hoped that he would let this go because I hadn't told anyone about this and I didn't know Leon well enough to make him the first for me to tell.
"Fine if you will not tell me then I will find out myself," Leon whispered into my ear. I turned my head quickly to see him walking towards the stairs.
"Don't forget about our coffee date." His statement confirmed my thoughts, so it was a date then.
"Why are you taking the stairs?"
"I need some exercise. I don't just get my body to look the way it does by sitting on the couch."
I pressed the down button for the elevator. The elevator chimed instantly. I scrunched my eyebrows, confused why the elevator was on this floor. I shook my head again and told myself to think of the situation at hand.
I stepped into the elevator and the door closed almost immediately. I pressed the ground button and slowly we started to go down. I watched the screen as it went from eleven to ten then to blank. I stared at the screen for a second and then noticed the elevator had stopped moving. Suddenly all the lights go off. Fear strikes me.
"Ashley we meet yet again," the voice I dreaded the most said. A sudden chill flows through my body.
