Chapter 54
A new day at the Endeavor Agency came out, they were currently in Endeavor's office as a cop pleaded with the boss. They were all staring at pictures of graffiti on the table.
"There have been already more than fifty incidents," the cop reported. "Endeavor will you help bring this vandal to justice?"
Endeavor looked at the man. "You are asking me to track down a mere graffiti artist?"
"I'm begging you," the cop said
Endeavor got to his feet. "Send more officers. This job is beneath me."
"Please sir," the man said. "We've tried. The man known as Mr. Smiley keeps eluding our forces, his quirks too strong."
"Now you've got my interest," Burnin said.
"What kind of power does he have?" Kido asked.
"Everybody who looked at Smiley's face loses their mind," the cop explained. "The convulse in fits of laughter."
"That's your problem," Endeavor growled.
"It's agony!" said the cop. "Victims on the ground, unable to stop cracking up. What's more, this would last for two full hours. Whenever we try to arrest him, he makes us laugh and slips through our fingers."
Endeavor sat back down. "Oh, very well, I suppose we can keep an eye out for this comedian out on patrol."
"The city thanks you sir," the cop said. Soon the police force left; Endeavor stared out the window.
"Can't believe they are forcing such a trivial case on us."
"Yikes," Kido grunted. "The graffiti pretty bad."
"Yeah, does this guy think he's Banksy or something?" Omina asked.
"I think he just wants people to see it," Eva said. "Despite how others may view it."
"He can force his opponents to start laughing," Izuku said. "Which means he's a lot like Ms. Joke."
"Perhaps the easiest option would be to arrest him without looking him in the face," Shoto said.
"Why are you guys taking this scumbag so seriously, huh?" Katsuki demanded with his hands raised.
"I'm going home for a bit," Endeavor announced. "Patrols are on you."
"Roger," the sidekicks said in unison.
That night; Eva was in Shoto's room; they were doing homework together. They had a few candles going for light; Shoto has made a habit of using candles when Eva is in the room due to her dislike of artificial light.
"This graffiti artist feels like a waste of our work-study time," Shoto said.
"I don't think so," Eva answered. "Though I do wish they'd take deforestation as seriously as this Mr. Smiley." Shoto looked over at her. "Each case we work on is something we can learn from. No big or small the matter is."
Shoto looked back at his studies. "I don't really get this guy's artwork."
"I don't either," Eva said. "But it obviously means a lot to him." Shoto scooted closer to her, he kissed her forehead the moment she looked up at him. Shoto pulled back, Eva pulled him in for a proper kiss.
***
Morning came along with another wave of Endeavor's anger.
"I want our entire agency after this scourge of society named Mr. Smiley. Got it?"
"We got it, sir," they responded.
Izuku turned Shoto when Endeavor walked away. "He's more passionate all of a sudden."
"Apparently, graffitied the side of his house," Shoto answered.
Katsuki clicked his tongue. "Huh. Talk about a short fuse."
Eva looked at him. "You're one to talk."
"Quiet brats!" shouted Endeavor, facing them.
There was a beep.
"This is Team B. We found the perp and are moving in."
"Let's go!" Endeavor ordered.
"Yes, sir!" they responded; they set out in search of Mr. Smiley. As soon as they arrived at the scene; Eva automatically went over to the two heroes on the ground laughing.
"Endeavor, sir!" Eva called out. The rest of the group rounded the corner.
Endeavor grabbed one guy. "Calm down, man." They just kept laughing, "Ugh! Split up and find him, now!"
"Right!" They responded, doing as they told. Eva flew up high; down below she spotted a guy in a pink shirt, burgundy pants, and a red cowboy hat; he carried paintbrushes running down the street.
'Our foe sure knows how to stand out,' Eva thought to herself. She shot down landing in front of the man, with her hand out. "Let's make this easy for both of us!"
Mr. Smiley activated his quirk. His force became holographic. "Mr. Smiley!" In seconds, Eva found herself on the ground, holding her stomach and laughing as the guy made his escape.
"Violet Gust!" Katsuki shouted as he landed next to her, he took her hand. "Quit laughing so damn much! You are making everything around you bloom freakin' too early!" It was true; the trees started to grow buds, and flowers in areas around them popped up in full bloom. The energy Eva gives off when she's extremely happy or laughing; affects the nature around her; such as making things bloom. Eva squeezed Katsuki's hand; he nodded, taking off to find Mr. Smiley.
Two hours later, the team was in Endeavor's office; Eva sat next to Katsuki on the couch; completely bewildered. Across from them sat Burnin, Kido, and Onima.
"He will suffer," Endeavor growled. "And then be locked away."
"I'm going to kill that clown!" Katsuki growled.
"Things bloomed too early," Eva said as she put her hands on her head.
"I can't believe I've disgraced myself in public," Burnin gloomed.
"I'm just glad my face was covered up," said Kido.
"He's certainly a formidable foe," Izuku said, Shoto looked at him. "That power of his is incredible."
"Yes," Shoto agreed; looking back at the others. "Somehow it even worked on me with a remote image. If he ever uses that Quirk on live television it'd be a nightmare."
"Yeah." Izuku agreed. "So how are we supposed to catch him?"
"With stealth?" Shoto questioned. "We can track and attack from a distance with my ice, Endeavor's fire, or Eva's wind."
"He paints in busy spaces where his art will be seen by the most people," Izuku gathered. "It'd be best we'd get in close so we can minimalize collateral damage." He looked up. "I know!" About ten minutes later or so Mr. Power Loader and Mei Hatsume were in the building.
"Mei Hatsume from the Support Course, here to answer your request!" Hatsume announced.
"You said you wanted to borrow some kind of robot?" Mr. Power Loader asked.
"Yes, sir, Mr. Power Loader," Izuku confirmed. " That's right. Because of the culprit's ability, we can't face him head-on."
"I'd figure as much," Hatusme said; she turned the robot. "So I came prepared." In rolled a tall robot. "I've been saving this capture robot, Mr. Power Loader, and I built together! Meet little baby 280!" She squealed and then laughed.
The robot's eyes lit up, raising its arms. "I look forward to working with you."
Katsuki walked up to it. "How's an oversize toy going to help?" He kicked out; a net shot out capturing him, he struggled for a bit; Shoto, Izuku, and Eva watched as Katsuki fell over.
"The hell!" Katsuki cried. "Get me out! Don't ignore me!"
"It's like he's caught in a butterfly net," Eva said, tilting her head.
"I needed to test my netting human," the robot said. "Ha, ha, ha."
Hatsume laughed."Sorry about that. But see those results, my baby can capture fierce criminals in a snap, no problem!"
"That's amazing," Izuku said. " And you guys don't mind if we borrow it for a little while?"
"Naturally," Power Loader answered. "That is why we lugged it over." The alarm went off again.
"Team B here, we've spotted Smiley!"
"This is it," said Shoto.
"Ready robot?" Izuku asked. "Let's go!"
The robot nodded. "Leave the villain to me."
Once the team stepped outside; the city echoed with laughter. They found Smiley in no time; he was painting All Might on the side of a building. Eva, Shoto, and Izuku hid behind a tree; studying the scene.
"The net needs to be deployed within five meters of him," said Shoto.
"All on you," Eva said as they watched the robot roll up to the villain. "Little Robot."
"Deploy!" Izuku shouted into his phone. Just as the robot was to attack; Mr. Smiley looked at it and used his Quirk. The robot began to laugh; then short-circuited. "What just happened?"
"No way!" Shoto gasped. "His quirk is even able to disrupt machines!"
Katsuki shot down at the villain from above. "It's payback time!" The man lifted his head; using his quirk. Bakugo started laughing; with his explosions, he spun around a lot before slamming into the ground.
"Bakugo!" Shoto shouted; Izuku shot toward the villain.
"Please, somebody help!" a small voice shouted; Eva looked over. "Well, that was easy." Izuku crashed into the building; his head dripped blood as he laughed.
"Deku!" Eva exclaimed.
"Not you too!" Shoto exclaimed. The quirk got used on Eva and Shoto; both back on the ground laughing; once again things went into bloom.
2 hours later, Kido held Katsuki from the back, and Omina held him from the front; as Eva was above with a hold of his hands.
"DAMMIT!" Katsuki roared as he struggled to get free. "Let me go so I can explode that pink bastard!"
"Calm down!" Kido pleaded.
Hastume screamed at the state of her robot. "NO! Mr. Power Loader, our baby's totally wiped out!"
Mr. Power Loader jumped; putting his arm out. "Not the best phrasing Hatsume! Think before you speak."
Izuku walked up. "Sir, how was Mr. Smiley's quirk able to take down a machine?"
"The robot recognized your vandals' face as a powerful image," Mr. Power Loader answered. "That must've disrupted its circuits. Vary of sensors were fried which supports my theory. I don't think you can't count anything mechanical for this arrest."
"That's not good news," Izuku said.
"So new plan," Eva said.
"We tranquilize him!" Burnin raged. "Then we move in and incinerate him!"
"So...that'll be plan C," said Eva.
"No!" Onima denied it quickly.
"Easy," Kido said. "That's no way for a hero to talk!"
"Or we can hit him with a rocket!" Burnin suggested.
"That can be plan D," Eva said.
"No!" Onima denied it quickly.
"That's even worse!" Kido answered.
"I'm thinking Mr. Aizawa's quirk might be our last hope," said Izuku.
"He's pretty busy taking care of Eri right now," Shoto pointed out. "We shouldn't bother him with low-level crimes like vandalism if we can help it."
"Can we leave now?" Power Loader asked.
"Young Bakugo," Endeavor said.
"Yeah, what is it?" Katsuki asked.
"Could you follow my directions with your eyes covered?" Endeavor asked.
"Of course, I can!" Katsuki confirmed.
"Prove it," Endeavor grunted; the two went to the roof.
"Obscured vision," Shoto said. "Smart."
"It feels like such a waste," Izuku said. "With a quirk like his, Smiley could've been a loved hero. So why did he turn to a life of crime?" They split to do more of their own strategizing; Eva was sitting at a table when Izuku came up to her telling her about Mr. Smiley's backstory.
"Open your laptop," Eva instructed as she pulled out her phone.
"What for?" asked Izuku, doing as he told.
"I have very little technology knowledge," said Eva. "But, I know someone who can help us." Eva put the phone to her ear; it rang twice before being picked up.
"What's up, Yuki?" asked Kaminari.
"I need a favor, Kaminari," answered Eva; Izuku looked over at her. "How do you make a website?"
"You called the right hero for that!" cheered Kaminari; Eva then put him on speaker. He taught them how to make a website; from there, Izuku uploaded Mr. Smiley's art.
Soon, Shoto walked up to the two. "What's up? Still at it? You two have been glued to that computer all day?"
"Well, instead of trying to capture Mr. Smiley, I was thinking we'd get him to stop vandalizing," said Izuku, turning the computer to Shoto. "Look at this; Eva called up Kaminari to teach us how to create a website."
'Welcome to Mr. Smiley's Smile Gallery
Hello! Welcome to Smiley Gallery!'
Shoto stared at it for a few seconds. "I don't understand very much about art. Is this stuff supposed to be good?"
"Art isn't entirely about being good," Eva said. "It's how one interprets it."
"I think every one of these pieces is important to him," said Izuku.
The alarm went off again. "This is Team C, we got eyes on Smiley!" Everyone charged toward the scene.
"Where is he?" Burnin asked
"A commercial building he's targeted before," the man answered. "This time, he's inside the lobby though."
"How should we approach this?" Shoto asked. "If we don't go in with some kind of plan, we'll end up in hysterics again."
"I'm not sure," Izuku answered. "But we can not go."
"I hope whatever Endeavor has in mind with Katsuki works out," Eva said. Soon they were all inside the building; watching Smiley paint a heart on the wall.
"Okay, what now?" Shoto asked.
"Let's get a better feel for how his abilities function," Izuku suggested. He closed his eyes, sticking his head into the open. "Hello, Mr. Smiley! That looks like it'll be a great painting when it's all done!"
Mr. Smiley gasped; looking over. "Thank you, it's nice to see a kid appreciating art!" He smiled more.
"Mr. Smiley!"
Izuku hid behind the pole, unaffected. "Right then, close your eyes, and his Quirk has no effect."
"That's good for Katsuki," Eva said.
"Means they might pull this one off," said Shoto.
"Let's hope," Izuku wished.
"Oh! Sorry! That was a reflex," Mr. Smiley apologized. He turned back to painting. In seconds, Katsuki started to blast around the area, blindfolded.
Mr. Smiley turned to the problem. "This won't do, trying to stamp out a painter's creativity once again. You're rude and you lack taste." He looked up using his Quirk; it did not affect Bakugo. "Okay, that's not smiley." He began to run away; just as Bakugo was about to land a blow, Izuku stopped him.
"No, Kacchan, wait!" Izuku shouted.
Bakugo turned to him. "Don't tell me what to do! Damn nerd--" He gasped looking at Mr. Smiley who removed his blindfold. "Oh, crap!" Mr. Smiley's Quirk went off, and in seconds Katsuki was on the ground unconscious.
"Katsuki!" Eva gasped as she entered the scene; she knelt beside him with her back toward Mr. Smiley.
"Kacchan, forgive me," Izuku said with his back to Mr. Smiley.
"Why did you protect me?" Mr. Smiley asked. "Wait--was it my painting you were trying to save and not me?"
"I don't really get your art," Izuku admitted. "But I do get that it's super important to you. I bet it's something that comes from within deep inside you. Still drawing on a building owned by someone else is a clear violation of the law. Even if it's a minor one." He faced the man. "If your work means so much to you, please put it on display in a proper venue."
"Creating art that the world isn't going to see feels futile," Mr. Smiley said. "What would be the point of that?"
"Whatever happens chase your passion," Izuku advised. "I know how you're feeling. I was told I couldn't be a hero, but I didn't give up. Thanks to the sport from many people I'm on my way now. Please Mr. Smiley, please keep on chasing your dreams." He held up his phone showing the website. "And I'll help you how I can."
"You wise child," said Mr. Smiley. "I see it now, this whole time I thought I was sticking it to the art critics. Maybe I was just running away out of fear."
"It's not too late to change," smiled Izuku. Suddenly, a van crashed through the window; Izuku grabbed Mr. Smiley as Eva grabbed Katsuki and got out of the way. Once the van stopped; a man got out and began shooting away.
"Ha, ha!" the man laughed.
"Robbery?" asked Endeavor looking over the edge.
"Dammit!" Burnin grunted. "This is not the time!"
Shoto used his ice to protect Mr. Smiley, his painting, Izuku, Katsuki, and Eva. "Hey, are you okay?"
"Yeah, thanks to you," answered Izuku.
Mr. Smiley gasped as his painting was destroyed by bullets. "Not my work! This cannot stand!"
"Suck it all up!" a guy said.
"You get the bag!" a man said; with his Quirk, he began to suck a bunch of jewelry.
"Endeavor," Burnin said once she reached her boss. "There are civilians here."
"You don't want any of these people to get hurt? Then don't sweat to stop us!" shouted the gunman.
"He's putting all of his focus on Endeavor," Shoto said.
"Our turn," said Izuku.
"Not so fast," denied Mr. Smiley. They looked to see an angry Mr. Smiley on his feet. "Allow me to take care of this disaster."
Izuku got to his feet. "No, it's way too dangerous!"
"Crashing in here and endangering bystanders," said Mr. Smiley, he looked back. "I won't allow it!" With his springs, he bounced up over the ice wall. "Especially since they shot my art!"
"Who's this guy?" the gunman asked.
"Got you!" Izuku shouted as he hit the man with air force; he crashed into the window; Eva used her wind to pin the man there until Shoto froze him there with his ice.
"You're dead!" a man threatened as the other held a civilian captive.
Mr. Smiley landed. "UH! MIRACLE SMILEY!" The three dropped to the ground laughing hard.
"You really did it Smiley," smiled Izuku.
The sidekicks arrested the laughing villains as Eva checked on the civilian.
"You really do have an amazing power," complimented Izuku. "Have you ever thought about becoming a hero?"
"Fighting's not really my style," Mr. Smiley answered; he held out his wrists. "I won't give up on art, but I can't run anymore. So, first, I need to atone for what've done."
"It won't be anything too serious," Eva said. "Just a few fines."
The news report ran up to him. "Those criminals were on the Nation's Most Wanted List, and you've captured him! We're live right now, will you give us a comment?"
Mr. Smiley lowered his hat; facing the camera. "Ma'am, I'm nothing more than a humble artist, remember my name." He looked up. "It's Mr. Smiley!" His quirk went off; everyone in the building and watching the broadcast all fell into laughter for two hours. About two hours later; Eva sat up to find just about the whole place covered in flowers.
"Oh, no," Eva sighed; she put a hand to her mouth. "What did I do?"
"Heh."
Eva looked over to see Katsuki with his back toward her. "Katsuki!"
"You've done nothing wrong," Katsuki denied; he turned around putting something on her head. Eva took it off; she saw it was a flower crown. "Seen you do it enough times to get the jest." He kissed her cheek.
"Pretty," Eva complimented putting it back on her head.
"Are these poisonous?" Burnin asked; they looked over to see her stepping carefully through the patches.
"No," Eva answered as she got to her feet. "I'm sorry about this." She put a hand behind her head; glancing at the flowers all around. She saw that Shoto was having a hard time making a flower crown; Izuku had just finished one. Eva taught Izuku how to make one a long time ago; one teaching was enough for him to catch on. The others began to step out; as Eva left with the flower problem. Shoto glanced back, he found it strange that Eva was looking over her shoulder. He hid behind a pole, studying her; she watched her put her hands on the tops of two flower areas. He watched green energy spread; going over all the flowers; including the ones on the upper levels. With a snap of her finger, they turned into many piles of flower crowns.
"Wow," breathed Shoto stepping out, Eva jumped looking back at him.
"Shoto!" Eva gasped. "What--"
"I won't say anything," said Shoto as he walked over. "When did you learn---"
"The Otherworld has a schooling system as well," Eva answered. "Done with school there by the age of 12."
"That's awfully young," Shoto grunted as Eva pulled out a bag; they began to put the crowns inside. "What did they teach you?"
"Healing, our talents, jobs we can pick up," Eva answered. "Many lessons include stories."
"What do you mean by talent?" Shoto asked; he noticed passion about the subject fill her.
Eva paused for a minute. "I told Izuku the other day, that I'd be a wind fairy....but that's my quirk...as I think about it, I'm an Earth one."
"You're a fascinating one," Shoto admitted with a small smile. "Uh--what are you going to do with all these flower crowns?"
"Give them to Genesis from the Business course," Eva answered looking into the bag. "She can probably make a lot off of these."
"SHOTO! VIOLET GUST" Endeavor shouted as the door opened. "Wh--" He was surprised to see that the place was completely clear of flowers. "Ho--"
"Fast workers," answered Shoto.
"Uh-huh," Endeavor breathed as the two kids walked past him.
****
Spring break had now come around; the students weren't really allowed to leave campus for the break unless it was for their work studies which took up most of the day. Eva had just returned to the dorms just before dinner with Katsuki, Izuku, Kirishima, and Shoto. They heard Kaminari call out to them.
"Yeah, we're back. Got a problem,?" said Katsuki.
"Good to be home! said Kirishima.
"How were your days?" Eva asked.
"You know the usual," Sero answered as Kaminari slouched more on the couch.
"What were you two just talking about?" asked Izuku.
"Kaminari was saying how it's spring break, so he's got the urge to blow this place and have some fun," explained Sero.
"What kind of thing is that, Kaminari?" asked Iida, he was passing through the common area. "A student's duty is to their studies, and we are now residents of this dorm. Where would you even presume to run off to at a moment's notice? Ah, welcome back, classmates!"
Kaminari groaned before anything could say anything. "They call it spring break, though. Breaks are for relaxing. Unwinding. Chilling out!"
"I admit this doesn't feel much like a spring break, given the intense work studies," said Izuku.
"I've been back and forth with the Otherworld due to spring," Eva said with her head down a bit. "Those cherry blossoms aren't going to bloom themselves." Eva was the only one allowed to leave campus; but only for the purpose of going to the Otherworld. Just because she was busy with school and work studies; the elders back home weren't about to let her play hooky with spring. Still, during all of it, Eva managed to make lots of time to be with Eri.
"You two get it!" Kaminari said.
Izuku wasn't on board yet. "Still, being at the agency is much fun since we're learning new things every day! Thanks again for inviting us to come along, Todoroki."
"Uh-huh," said Todoroki.
"Those cherry blossoms are looking great, Yuki!" Kirishima complimented giving a thumbs up. "It's manly."
"Thanks," said Eva returning the thumbs up as Katsuki put a hand on her head, he had a proud look on his face.
" I get that!" Kaminari said to Izuku. "But spring break is a blink-and-you-miss-it window! Way shorter than summer and winter breaks, so it's much more valuable!"
"Hey---why don't we get a fall break, anyway?" asked Kirishima in earnest.
"They must think we can power through fall after taking it easy over the summer," said Sero.
"Makes sense to me," said Kirishima.
"You're losing the point, guys!" shouted Kaminari. "I'm saying we gotta make the most of this chance! It doesn't gotta be a full-blown trip! Just somewhere we can go to hang out and chill!"
"Hoping to go somewhere, Kaminari?" said a low voice from behind.
"Mr. Aizawa!"
Everyone in the room stiffened as their homeroom teacher's ice stare froze them.
"How about camping?" Aizawa suggested. The boys were too stunned to speak. "One of the school's training facilities simulates a full-blown wintry mountain. There's the mountain itself, plus a forest, and even a lake for fishing. Looks to me like you all have some overlapping days off coming up, so you could head out there for a night's stay." The boys could blink and stare. "What? Nobody's forcing you. You're welcome to go nowhere at all instead."
"Wait, no--yes, sign us up! But who came up with this awesome idea?" said Kaminari.
"At the faculty meeting, we discussed opening up some of the school's facilities to students for spring break. The change of pace should leave you feeling refreshed and ready to tackle the duties ahead more efficiently. Well? How does that sound?" said Aizawa. A day later, Eva was in Izuku's room helping him pack for the camping trip.
"You sure you don't want to go?" Izuku asked as he stuffed in socks.
"Positive," Eva answered as she rolled his sleeping bag.
Izuku looked at her. "But you love the outdoors."
"A day off means I can be in the Otherworld more," Eva answered. "But in this case, I have plans with the girls tomorrow."
"Oh?" Izuku asked in surprise. "What will you ladies be doing?"
"A Hanami meet-up under the cherry blossoms," said Eva looking at him with a smile.
Izuku smiled. "Aw, that's amazing, Eva!" He gave her two thumbs up. "Are you bringing anything?"
"That mango cranberry nectar," Eva answered.
"Yum!" Izuku said.
"Oh!" Eva recalled as she reached into her bag; pulling out a jar. "I made you guys some as well."
"YOU REALLY DIDN'T HAVE TO!" Izuku shouted making Eva jump; she looked over to see water works.
"Woah!" Eva said as she held out her hand. "I thought you cooled it with the waterworks!"
***
The next morning came around; Eva was woken up by someone shaking her; and tapping her face, she opened her eyes to see Katsuki looking down at her.
"We're heading up to the mountain, now," Katsuki informed as Eva sat up; she looked at him oddly. "What's your problem?"
"Your growing fever," Eva said as she put a hand against his head.
"Don't damn worry about it," said Katsuki removing her hand. "I took some medicine earlier." He kissed the top of her head. "I'll see you tomorrow." Before she could protest, Katsuki disappeared from the room. About two hours later; Eva was doing some training with Eri; she and Mirio had been at Eri's side most of the time when her training started. Working on smaller bugs and lizards. Aizawa was in the room as well; to use his quirk on Eri when needed. Everything was going well until Eri let out a gasp.
"What's the matter little Eri?" Togata asked.
Eri reached into her mouth and pulled out a bloody bone. "I think I'm rewinding myself."
"Not at all," denied Aizawa kneeling beside her with a small smile. "It's normal for kids your age to start losing teeth."
"Losing teeth?" Eri asked staring at her tooth.
"Your baby teeth fall out so your adult ones can come in," Eva explained.
"You know what that means?" Mirio asked with a big smile. "Someone's getting a visit from the tooth fairy tonight!" Eri looked at Eva, who gave a smile and a thumbs up. "Just put that tooth under your pillow; have a nice nighty night's sleep and in the morning, you'll have money."
Later, Eva was having a hanami with the girls under the blossom tree.
"This is so yummy," Urkaka smiled as she happily munched on a dumpling. "Just the best!"
"After the work studies this week, it feels like a well-deserved reward," Tsu said as she grabbed an onigiri.
"Still sucks we can't go anywhere due to our work studies," Ashido gloomed. "I was totes wanting to head to the mall."
"We aren't allowed off campus, though," Jiro reminded her. "Well, Yuki is...but that's due to business in the Otherworld."
"I know!" Hagakure chimed. "We can meet at that mochi cafe after our work studies end for the day! Technically, we'd be making a stop on our way home!"
"Mhmm," Yaoyorozu sounded. "That would be great! We can tell each other all we learned that day!"
"Something the matter, Yuki?" Tsu asked; they looked at her. "You've been quiet."
"Worried about the boys?" Urakaka asked.
"No," Eva denied, looking up.
"If anything, she's appreciating the break from them," said Jiro. "Not having to print out a book report for iida for stepping out."
"A break from Bakugo is probably nice as well," Hagakure said. "Even with how close you two are."
"It's not any of those," Eva said. "Little Eri lost her first tooth today during training." The girls, but Jiro squealed; she looked just as excited.
"So, does that mean you will be playing the part of the tooth fairy?" Hagakure asked, Eva furrowed her eyebrows. "Not for your godchild?"
"I failed the test twice," Eva admitted. "Not sure if I'm allowed to."
"There's a test for stuff like that?" Yaoyorozu asked, Eva nodded. "Fascinating."
"Since it's your godchild, I'm sure it'll be fine," Urakaka smiled, and Eva nodded. The girls chatted more about their work studies. After the meetup, Eva was now in Tokoyami's room; the two exchanged ghost stories; Dark Shadow joined them as well.
"You're losing the tone in your story," complained Dark Shadow.
"Oh, sorry," apologized Eva. "Fumikage...do you have any teeth lying around?"
"Do I have any what?" Tokoyami asked.
"Teeth," Eva repeated. "I mean, don't worry if you don't, I grabbed some animal teeth from the forest." She pulled out a pouch.
"You did what?" Tokoyami asked.
"Never mind," said Eva, putting teeth in her hand. "I just need to practice before I do a tooth service for Eri...I can restart my story."
"I wanna tell one!" Dark Shadow pleaded. "I got a super scary one!"
"You may proceed," Tokoyami nodded as he watched Eva turn the teeth into coins; and then back.
"It was night foggier than it's ever been--" Dark Shadow began his story.
**
Night came, and Eva was now chilling in Komori's room with Shiozaki; she was waiting there until it was time to get to Eri's room. They were putting together a small mushroom castle.
"Thanks, 'shrooms," said Kinoko. "This Mushroom castle will be absolutely superb."
"I'm honored you asked us for help," Eva said
"It is our duty to help those in need," said Shiozaki.
"Is it safe to say that you think Amanita Muscaria is a favorite of yours?" Eva asked. "Your hero suit is based on it."
"I have a hard time picking favorites," admitted Komori with a bigger smile. "Amanita muscaria is one of the most well-known."
"Showing favoritism is sinful," said Shiozaki.
"I think it's alright," said Eva. "Otters have a favorite rock they keep on them at all times."
"Every creature does have its own way of life," acknowledged Shiozaki. "And not everyone shares the same belief." A couple of minutes later, Eva grabbed clothes from a bag and slipped into the bathroom to change. She put on the shoulder dress, with prismatic colors of a light yellow dress; the skirt part was a tulle design to her knees; a belt around her waist, and slippers.
"Goodness," gasped Shiozaki, putting a hand over her mouth.
"Time sure flies fast when you are making mushroom castles," Komori giggled, not even looking up.
"You ladies have a good night," Eva wished them.
"You as well," nodded Shiozaki.
Eva slipped off her ring; put it around her neck, then went to Eri's room. When she peered in through the window; she saw the girl was fast asleep. Eva quietly opened the window, and the girl's breathing changed a little. Eva took out a music box; and placed it on the shelf; it started to play a song ensuring that Eri would stay asleep. In swift motions; Eva exchanged a coin for a tooth. The main reason Eva failed both times is that she kept waking up the 'child' during the exam, but Eva came with a determination not to fail. She looked at Eri to see that she was holding tight to a bunny stuffed animal. 'Cute.'
Eva went back to the dorms; she slipped in through her balcony door to find Izuku sitting on her chair, and Katsuki on her bed; they stared at her, and she stared back.
"Why are you getting back late?" asked Izuku, breaking the silence.
"Why are two back here from your hiking trip?" asked Eva, shutting the balcony door.
Katsuki stood up."Which damn lame extra did you go on a date with? They better have not been some 'freakin weak or damn weirdo!"
"Kacchan!" said Izuku.
"A date?" Eva repeated in disbelief. "I was with Eri. "She put a hand on Izuku's forehead. 'A fever.'
"Isn't it past her bedtime?" asked Izuku as she withdrew her hand. Eva held up a small jar with a tooth inside.
"Since when does a fairy godmother have jurisdiction over a toothy fairy?" asked Katsuki, walking over.
"You're the idiot who went hiking up a snowcapped mountain with a fever," said Eva.
"Eva!" yelped Izuku.
Katsuki's hair spiked more. "Say that again, soulless girl."
"Kacchan!" yelped Izuku.
Eva looked at him; did a quick look up and down. "You heard me, or did your fever clog your ears?"
"Eva!" yelped Izuku.
"Go lay down," Eva advised; putting the jar on her desk. "Did you see Recovery Girl?"
"We thought to come to you instead," Izuku said as Katsuki leaned his head down; without hesitation, Eva put her hands on their heads treating them of illness. "How did the hanami go?"
"Tell me about the hiking trip," Eva requested.
"Just another of his stupid rational deceptions," Katsuki said.

A new day of spring break came around; after a day at the work-study; Eva was now walking around with Shinso in the forest with a can of wet cat food. They heard some rustling of two entering the forest. Two familiar scents entered Eva's nose.
'Eri?' Eva asked in surprise as they watched the girl look between shadows of the trees.
"Kitty? Where are you?" a familiar voice asked.
"Looking for a cat?" asked Shinso.
"Y-yes," she said, unsure.
"What a coincidence--us too," said Shinso; Eri looked to see that Eva was there as well and lit up. "Was it a kitten you saw?" Eri noted the can of wet food.
"It's still pretty young," Eva informed. "What color was the kitty?"
"White, all white," she answered.
"That's the one," Shinso confirmed. "The little scamp's the only one who didn't show up for dinner yesterday." Eri became a little relaxed; and then told them about the kitty's injury.
"It must not be hurt too badly if it's still running around," said Eva. "But it needs to be cared for before that leg gets hurt."
"Yeah," said Eri.
"Does anyone know you came into the woods?" asked Shinso.
"No...I didn't tell them," said Eri.
"Then we'd better get you back. I can come with you." Shinso spun toward the edge.
"I can stay out here with her," Eva said. "We should continue looking for the kitty."
"You sure we shouldn't get her back?" Shinso asked.
"I'm her Fairy Godmother," Eva said. "It'll be alright." Shinso looked at Eri and then at Eva. The three began to search.
"Kitty!"
"Little one!"
"Come get your dinner!"
They moved through the dense forest until they heard voices.
"Too slow, Deku!"
"Yikes!"
Eri, Eva, and Shinso peeked through the clearing to Izuku and Katsuki training together; Eva noticed that All Might was also with them. Izuku was using Blackwhip to fly from tree to tree avoiding Bakugo's blasts.
"Young Bakugo! No need for that extra boom once you've caught him!"
"Whoa, that's All Might," muttered Shinso.
"Izuku, Katsuki."
"Midoriya."
"It's Deku."
They all looked at each other.
"Are you friends with Deku?" Eri asked Shinso.
"I wouldn't put it that way," said Shinso. Eri seemed puzzled by his answer. "I guess he's the guy I wanna beat the most."
"They are rivals in a way," Eva explained; she noticed that Eri was focused on Izuku.
"Do you wanna say hi to him?" asked Shinso.
"But, um...he's doing training," said Eri stepping further back.
"C'mon! Get your ass up and start running!" said Katsuki.
"As long as you chase me just as hard!" said Izuku.
"Focus up, Young Midoriya!" said All Might.
"You got it!" said Izuku, turning to his mentor.
"Should we get Young Yuki to join us?" asked All Might.
"No, I want Eva to rest when she can," Katsuki denied; Eva gasped lightly. "I can catch you with my eyes shut! Hope you're ready for that Afro to get a whole lot crispier!" They watched back and forth as the boys trained; Bakugo shouted a lot. Shinso and Eva went back to Eri.
"Did something happen?" asked Shinso; Eri stared at him in shock. "Did you have a fight with someone, maybe?" Eri shook her head. "Did Mr. Aizawa get mad at you?"
"He never gets mad at her," informed Eva.
Eri spoke up. "Mr. Aizawa and Mirio and everyone are always really nice to me..."
"Oh? Good. Sorry for asking weird questions," said Shinso.
"Um, actually..."
They listened to Eri explain how her Quirk training wasn't going that well. She stumbled over her words, but Shinso listened earnestly.
"Uh-huh...Mh-hmmm...I see..." Eri looked at Shinso after finishing her words. "Amazing."
"Huh?"
"When I was your age, I'd never even dreamed of doing any sort of training. So it's amazing to me that you're working so hard at it," Shinso said. "I'm doing my own training now too, y'know. Sometimes I feel like I'm finally getting the hang of it, but at the same time, I know I've got a long way to go. It's like Eraser Head---I mean, Mr. Aizawa---always says. When trying your best starts to feel hard, that's how you know you're growing."
"I'm growing? Bigger?" questioned Eri; she looked at Eva.
"You may not see it from your view, but you are getting stronger, Eri," Eva explained. "You are very young; don't be so hard on yourself."
"Did you have similar struggles?" asked Eri.
"I wasn't focused on my quirk at your age," admitted Eva as made a flower bloom; she picked it before giving it to Eri.
"Eri! You around here?" came Togata's voice. Eri froze in place.
Shinso spoke up. "Uh, she's over here!"
Togata spotted the trio and smiled in relief. "Eri, you gave me the scare of my life, disappearing like that! Hey, Yuki!"
"Togata," Eve greeted.
"I'm sorry," said Eri. "But, um..."
"We were looking for an injured kitten," informed Eva.
"We thought it might've come this way," said Shinso.
"And who might you be?" said Togata, turning to the boy.
"I'm Hitoshi Shinso."
"Oh? Oh! The General Studies kid who's transferring to the Hero Course! That's you? Well, it's swell to meetcha, Shinso. Anyway, what's this about a kitten? Ah, hang on---is that Midoriya?"
"Oh, whoops!" said Midoriya. Katsuki had gotten tangled up in a strand of black whip and now dangling from a tree by the ankle.
Katsuki blew up at him. "If you did that on purpose, I swear I'll murder you for real this time!"
Izuku started to mumble to himself. "I was just thinking how I needed to latch onto those branches tighter, but I still don't have the knack for proper control...Hmm. That grab-and-release motion could afford to be a lot smoother..."
"You even listening? Get me down from here, dweeb!" shouted Katsuki.
"My bad!"
After helping him down, Izuku dove right back into muttering.
"Young Midoriya!" said All Might. "Picture it in your head. Envision yourself swinging from branch to branch!"
Izuku closed his eyes. "Right! Branch to branches... birds don't land on branches that'll break, I won't swing on branches that'll break." He opened his eyes. "Come and get me!" Bakugo and Izuku began their game of cat and mouse. Katsuki caught up and levied an explosion. "Hmm...I'm losing too much momentum as I go...Maybe I'm thinking about it too hard?"
"Kid! First off..."
"Keep training for a million years and maybe you'd escape this hunter! Nah, fat chance! Just keep drilling that one move until it comes natural!"
"Oh, good idea! Lemme try that," said Izuku.
"Such apt advice," said All Might. Izuku started swinging again, Katsuki wasn't on his tail, but soon Izuku fumbled and fell.
"Ah!" gasped Eri.
"Not to worry," Eva said. "Deku always gets back up, this is just training after all." Eri nodded.
"More like...this, maybe?" Izuku muttered. "Grab and release, grab and release." Izuku would get up each time he fell, swinging from branches.
"Ooh, so close!" whispered Togata. " Ah, no, aim higher! Argh! That's okay, buddy! Walk it off and try again!"
"You seriously can't keep Midoriya, down, huh," said Shinso.
"Can't keep him down where? On the ground?' asked Eri.
"That means never gives up," explained Shinso. Eri considered this and then looked back at Izuku. "How does Deku try so hard?"
"Because he knows what wants to become," said Togata, he turned to her with a grin. "Midoriya has found his target and is running toward it at top speed."
"I get how that is," nodded Shinso.
"Be the person you need to be for yourself, then focus on being the person you want to be for others," said Eva. "My mom told me that." Eri grabbed Eva's hand.
"Oof!" Izuku fell again. "More like this, maybe..."
"Good luck!" whispered Eir as Izuku got back up, when he got to the 4th branch Izuku remained airborne with black whip instead of falling. "Wow!"
Izuku was swinging around successfully. "I did it! Did you see that, All Might?" He landed with a smile.
" I sure did!" said All Might, returning the smile.
Bakugo blasted off toward Midoriya. "Why're you standing still? Better hustle, nerd!"
"Huh? We're starting up again, Kacchan?"
"Deku is so amazing!" said Eri as the boys resumed their cat-and-mouse game.
"Mhm-hmm!" nodded Togata.
"Heh, youthful passion is a beautiful thing," came a voice from behind.
"Midnight! How long have you been standing there?" asked Togata. The teacher was leaning against a tree, also memorized by the training in front of them.
"What's 'yooth-ful pashun?" asked Eir.
Midnight paused to think. "Hmm. It's like...when young people are living their lives to their fullest potential."
Eri blinked. "Can I have that too?"
Midnight squatted down with an encouraging smile. "Of course, you can." Eri was flabbergasted. "But! You have to tell grown-ups before wandering off somewhere, okay? Everyone was so worried about you."
"Okay," gloomed Eri.
Midnight stood back up. "Why are we all out here, anyway?"
"Actually, it's because--" Eva began, there was a small meow; they spun to see a whitetail in the shade of a nearby tree.
"As I was saying, we think that kitten hurt its leg, so we were searching for it," said Shinso.
"It's injured? How awful?" said Midnight. She called out to the cat, it started to run but Togata nab the furball.
"Phew...Thanks for that," said Shinso as the others caught up.
"No trouble at all," said Togata with a grin; cradling the creature in his arms. The kitty was meowing for its life. He dropped to his knees so everyone could see, Shinso gently parted the fur on the kitten's hind leg to examine the injury.
"Looks as if it got pecked by a crow?" said Eva.
"Recovery Girl won't be back until late tonight," said Midnight.
"For now, it needs some first aid," said Shinso as he stood up.
"I can probably take a look at it," said Eva as Mirio handed her the cat; the cat calmed down.
"I-I want to help..." said Eri, looking at her hands with fear. "With my Quirk, I mean..."
"All right," Eva said as she placed the kitten in Eri's arms.
"It'll be okay, you can heal the kitty," Togata said.
Eri nodded. "Kitty...You're gonna be okay..." She began to focus; her horn started to glow; the cat looked at Eva; she nodded her head.
Izuku's voice came loud for all to hear. "It's gonna work out!"
"Yes. It's gonna work out," mumbled Eri; she focused more. The kitten's injuries started to close up as if the injury ever happened. The wounds vanished along with the bloodstains. "Phew." She removed her hands.
"You really did it, Eri! The kitty's all better now!" exclaimed Togata. The cat remained by Eri; licking her hand and meowing.
"Kitty is saying thank you," said Eva.
Eri considered this...she petted the creature's head. "Is the hurt gone? I'm so glad?" her giggle made Eva, Midnight, and Togata smile. The kitten licked at the wet food before running off.
"All right, I'd better hunt it down again," said Shinso; he turned to Eri. "What I said earlier, about growing. It's all getting better, day by day, and moving forward."
"Moving forward," Eri repeated.
"You did really well today," Eva said. "I'm really proud of you." Eri tightened her grip looking at Eva happily. "Now, go get some food, probably hungry from your training today."
"Super," Eri nodded.
*****
Eva was walking through the UA campus with classmates; the cherry blossom trees were gorgeous.
"Ughhh," Ahsido groaned. "It's spring break, but we can't even enjoy it cause our work studies are still going! Boo!"
"So much for having time to relax," said Kaminari.
"It says we have an expeditionary operation," Urakaka said looking at her phone.
"Huh?" Eva said looking at Urakaka's phone. Endeavor's work-studies students were given one, too.
"So like a work field trip?" Tsu asked.
"Hold on for real?" asked Kaminari. "That's weird, same for us."
"Our agency too," said Izuku. "I wonder why."
"Huh? What could that mean?" asked Urakaka.
Eva thought about what Endeavor said about the liberation army. 'Does it have to deal with that?'
"Woah," breathed Jiro. "Ditto here."
"Same," said Shoji.
***
It was now the night before the big operation; Eva was to be the only work-study student at the hospital; she was to help evacuate patients. Eva lay wide awake, in all honesty, she was beyond nervous about tomorrow, scared too. Eva finally gave up and then got up silently left the room; made her way all the way to the room on the 4th floor on the other side. The door opened before she could fully grasp the doorknob.
"Let me guess, you are feeling pathetically scared about tomorrow?" asked Katsuki staring down at her.
"I'd be foolish to deny the feeling," answered Eva; her eyes laid locked on the floor. "Pathetic feeling."
"I got something to help with your nerves," said Katsuki; he pulled her into the room closing the door. She sat on the bed as he rummaged through a drawer. "Here." He put a raccoon stuffed animal into his lap. Eva picked up studying it...it was old.
"Why do you have this?" asked Eva, it was a stuffed animal given to her by Katsuki, and it stayed at the Bakugos. Eva snuggled with it whenever she spent the night at the Bakugo's house when they were much younger. She was scared of spending the night for a long time, and Katsuki got annoyed with her waking him up in the middle of the night to check for monsters under the bed and in the closet.
"For dumb pathetic moments like this," Katsuki answered; he put a hand on her head; she finally looked at him. "You are going to be with all pros tomorrow; don't be so worried."
"You are worried too," said Eva taking one of his hands. "Worried about Izuku as well."
Katsuki put his forehead closer. "I'd be foolish to deny those feelings; the same way I am going to worry about you." He kissed the top of her head. "Whatever happens tomorrow, I'll be there to rescue you." He kissed her hand.
"But you'll get in trouble for leaving your post," said Eva.
"Don't you tell me what to damn do," said Katsuki. "I do love you."
"I love you too," said Eva, smiling lightly. She pulled him into a hug, Katsuki hugged her back tighter. Ten minutes later, they were both fast asleep.
