CHAPTER EIGHT----▹
When Steve and Leigh arrived on the scene there were several wounded people, one of them being, exactly who they were looking for, "Dr. Cho!" Steve exclaimed jogging forward, Leigh also leaned down by her side, immediately applying pressure to the wound. "He's uploading himself into the body." her voice was breathless and pained, Leigh winced getting better sights on the wound. It was bad.
"Where?" Steve questioned, she shook her head, and Steve began to move to his feet when she reached out stopping him, "The real power is inside the cradle." the woman began, "The gem, its power is uncontainable." Leigh's brow furrowed both in worry and confusion, "You can't just blow it up. You have to get the cradle to Stark." the woman urged.
"I have to find it first." Steve spoke, "We. We have to find it first." Leigh corrected, "Go." the doctor breathed, "Did you guys copy that?" Steve asked, "We did." Clint replied, from the pilot's seat, "We've got a private jet taking off across town. No manifest. That could be him." Natasha added, "There. It's a truck from the lab." Clint spoke, spotting the truck below them, "Right above you Cap."
"Copy that." Leigh spoke, "On your queue?" she asked turning to face Steve, "Let's go." he stated, "I could take out the driver," Clint spoke, getting his sights, "Negative. If that truck crashes, the gem could level the city."
"Yeah, I have to agree with Cap there, I don't want to deal with any more life-ending crisis today." Leigh stated, climbing up the ladder behind the man, "We need to draw out Ultron." Steve added, making it to the top and looking around, "Wha...what are you doing?" Leigh questioned, as the super-soldier took off in a jog about to jump off the side, "Wait, no."
Just as he landed on the truck she shrugged, "Fine, screw it." she took off in a sprint, shooting the grappling hook at the last second making her landing on top of the truck slightly softer, she huffed pushing her braid behind her shoulder, "I hate heights." Leigh groaned, "especially jumping from them and hoping for the best."
"Focus." Cap instructed in a hushed voice, "Yeah, yeah. Murder bot. It's not like I forgot." Leigh said, "You can go first, I would rather not get blown to pieces." Leigh held on to the truck for dear life as Cap climbed down to the door, it quickly got blown open slamming him into the side of the truck, "Murder bot is angry." Leigh quipped.
Soon both doors were blown off Cap flying upward, landing on what was left of the doors, "Well, he's definitely unhappy." Cap noted, "I'm gonna try and keep him that way." he added, "Yeah, like that's going to be hard." Leigh spoke, knuckles white from her death grip on the truck. "You're not a match for him, Cap. And Leigh I want you out of there." Clint stated, "No can do Clint, love you though." Leigh said.
"Thanks Barton." Cap shook his head, Ultron blasted Cap backwards into the next car's windshield, Leigh jumped down in front of Ultron using big arm motions in attempts to slow down his movements, but she couldn't hold it for very long, not against him. "How'd you do that?" she gasped, and noticed Cap, jump up on top of the Truck, "Oh look, we've got company." she noted, causing Ultron's mechanical head to turn, she took that moment to snap her wrist away from his iron grip.
Ultron tossed her backward, floating up towards Steve, "You know, what's in that cradle?" Ultron whirred, sending a blast in the super solider's direction, which just hit the vibrainum shield, "The power to make real change. And that terrifies you."
"I wouldn't call it a comfort." Steve spoke grasping his shield, Leigh was attempting to climb up the side of the moving vechil, "Damn, I really should do more upper body workouts," Leigh groaned, she could hear the commotion taking place above her, a metal hand of one of Ultron's little puppets smashed against her's, she gasped in pain, "That really hurt." she groaned shaking her hand, before slowing the bot's movements.
Steve moved around the Truck from bar to bar, "Where did you learn that? Gymnastics?" Leigh questioned, still trying to hold on, "Give em hell." Clint said to Nat, opening the quinjet, "A little help Tasha?" Leigh asked, her hand slipping up again, "Working on it, Strange"
"I'm always picking up after you boys." Natasha noted, grabbing the shield off of the road, "Hah! I heard that" Leigh said pushing herself upward, "You too, Leigh." the brunette frowned, "Hey!"
Soon enough Tasha zoomed by and Leigh jumped on, almost falling off the side of the bike when she landed, "Thanks, Romanoff." Leigh thanked wrapping her arms around the redhead's waiste, "Better hold on tight." Natasha spoke, Ultron pulled up a piece of the road, blocking her and Natasha from continuing.
She drove towards a ramp, "Woah, are you crazy!?!" The brunette exclaimed, "Out, of the way. coming through!" Natasha exclaimed, and Leigh turned her head back, "Sorry!" she shouted, back towards the startled people.
"Clint? Can you draw out the guards?" Natasha asked into the comms, "beep. beep." Natasha spoke, "Really sorry about that," Leigh spoke as they passed by more people, After a few minuted, Clint's voice came back through the comms, "They're heading back towards you." Leigh sighed, "Great."
"So, whatever you're going to do, do it now." he added, "We're going in. Cap, can you keep him occupied?" Natasha asked, "What do you think I've been doing." the super soldier, breathed, clearly offended.
"Leigh, get ready to take over," Natasha spoke, "Wait, what?" the brunette asked, "I'm going in. You're staying here." Natasha jumped forward into the truck and Leigh quickly slid up on the seat taking a hard turn stopping the motorcycle briefly. "Alright, I'm gonna try not to have my death be caused by this motorcycle. I'll distract Ultron's puppets.
"Oh no you don't." Leigh stated, releasing her grip from the handle bars, and slowing down the two bots, "I can only hold them off for so long, Nat. So do me a favor and move. Fast." Natasha tapped away on the buttons, "I'm working on it, Leigh."
After a few seconds Leigh was about to speed right into a cafe, "Shit!" she cursed moving to grasp the handles causing the bots to fall out of her spell, "Incoming!" she yelled pulling the bike to a stop, causing her to fall forward landing back against a table, several shard of glass embedding themselves into her skin, the brunette hissed in pain.
Leigh tried to sit up but her head was spinning, vision clouding up slightly, "Yeah, I'm just gonna sit here for a minute." she mumbled.
The bots latched on to the sides of the truck lifting it upwards, "Okay, the package is airborne." Clint noted, "What do you mean the package is airborne?" Leigh asked, exasperated. "I mean it is floating." Clint said, "Well no shit."
"I have a clean shot." Clint stated, "Negative. I am still in the truck." Natasha's voice cut in, "What the hell Tasha?!?" Leigh exclaimed now limping on the sidewalk. "I'm sending the package to you." Natasha spoke, "How do you want me to take it?" he questioned, "Uh, you might wish you hadn't asked that."
There was clanging of metal from Cap's end, "I lost him! He's coming your way." he shouted, "Damn it!" Leigh cursed removing a larger shard of glass, "Nat, we got to go." Clint spoke, and Leigh didn't have eyes on the situation but knew it wasn't good when Clint's panicked yell reached through the comms, "Nat!"
"Cap you see Nat?" he asked, "And Leigh began looking around panicked as well, "If you have the package, get to Stark. Go!" Cap ordered, "Do you have eyes on Nat." he repeated, "Go!"
"I'll look for her Clint." Leigh spoke, "Just get the hell out of here." She added, "Stark, come in." Cap's voice cut through, "Anyone on comms?" he asked, "Yeah," Leigh's voice was breathy, "Where are you?"she asked, "East corner." she hummed, "On my way."
---
"Oh, hell no." Leigh stated, seeing Cap standing by the maximoff twins, "What are they doing here? You remember Witchy over here showing us our worst nightmare? Right Cap?" Leigh asked, "Leigh..." he warned, "Oh don't give me that look. I get to be petty. This is such bullshit." She spoke, "Leigh," Wanda started, she raised an eyebrow turning to face the brunette witch, "Don't even, you have no idea what shit your little spell put me through."
"I do." Wanda whispered, Leigh's eyebrows knitted together in confusion, "I saw everything I showed you." Leigh glanced up meeting those magical green eyes, "What?" she asked, suddenly feeling selfconsious. "I'm really sorry, Leigh."
Leigh huffed turning away from Wanda's gaze, dropping her glossy eyes down to the ground, "Whatever." she mumbled, "I hate to step in, but we don't really have time for this." Cap spoke,
"Let's just go, Capsicle."
