Chapter 78
They say eyes speak more than your mouth could ever manage, especially in the silence of a night and a pair of eyes that tried their best to avoid another, simply because he felt like no words were good enough to explain, nor he knew what he wanted to explain exactly.
Was there a need to explain, to begin with between them? Maybe it wasn't yet Jimin could understand well that he had filled Jin with worry and unfortunately he had no choice but to add to that feeling of his.
"Just a small accident...we can hide it easily..it's not that big of a scar. "Jimin moved his now treated and bandaged hand with a smile on his face, while Jin was placing everything back on the first aid kit, that he had grown sick of seeing.
"How to hide it is the least of my concerns. How it happened, however-" Jin lifted his eyes and met his briefly as he halted his tongue, knowing that he might not want to say it out loud and neither did he want to hear it out loud yet surely they both were aware that they both knew how it had happened.
"I will call Jiya and tell her to come over," Jin uttered as he proceeded to place the kit in its usual place and Jimin just lowered his head, admitting that as his Psychiatrist she definitely needed to know of this incident and he himself felt the need to see her. It's been a while that he hasn't because of his busy schedule and he surely had been slipping a lot to points that he was in need of hearing her professional view and getting some strength from the potential hope she could give him.
He remained silent as Jin grabbed his phone, having left his own back in his house, forgetting that he had left his phone open on the text message he had received earlier and had yet to tell him about. As Jin unlocked the phone, that was the first thing he came face to face with and he couldn't help but do a double-take at him, before proceeding to get to the contacts and call his girlfriend.
He waited a bit in line, due to the late hour, guessing that she was sleeping and her sleepy voice reached his ears after, approving of his assumption. "I know it's a bad time but please come over to Jimin's house. He needs you." Jin wasted no time and after he heard her positive reply, he told her to take care on her way there before he hang up and went to open the text again, placing the phone in front of Jimin, on the counter.
"I was going to tell you..." He met his eyes, speaking the truth even though the truth was he had hesitated because he could tell how much he had saddened Jin already.
"I will trace the number right away." Was all Jin told him, seemingly unwilling to play games with whoever was attempting to cause trouble this time, because in his eyes, he deemed Jimin not in a condition to carry unnecessary stress and he especially after tonight, didn't plan on letting any further burdens on him.
"Let the sunrise at least, why to bother more peopl-"
"Shut up!" The way Jin cut him off made Jimin laugh slightly, understanding that his cousin was fed up and most likely he had turned on his protective side more than usual. The fact made him slightly happy for it was for him and it was the proof of how much he cares for him, but simultaneously he felt guilty towards him for the same reason.
"You know...I have done so little for you...Yet you always give as much as you can...I never found the strength to ask...why? I know we are cousins and best friends but...anyone would reasonably have left by now... so maybe you should too." Jin's hands halted as Jimin's words echoed in the atmosphere and he turned to look at him only to find him looking away, his fingers touching the bandage on his hand awkwardly.
"What has gotten into you tonight?"He questioned him and Jimin placed a smile on his lips, shutting down the insecurities that almost slipped on the surface at a moment that he shouldn't let them show.
"Don't mind me. Continue with your call, I am fine."He giggled, yet that happiness of his only made Jin madder at him and so he walked closer to him again and slapped him right across his face.
The atmosphere felt as if it came to an immediate halt after that action of his, and Jimin remained looking blankly ahead at the direction his head had flown towards after that hit, while Jin's hand slowly fell by his side, his face portraying a mixture of pain, sadness and anger.
"Is it so hard to believe that I just love you? It's not pitty if that is what you are thinking about nor it is because I can't run away from you. I just care! You are what I consider family. You are the only one that I know, if I was in your place, you would have looked after me the same way. You would have tried just as much to help me...yet I know that I can't help you but don't you dare try to tell me that I should leave you behind or that my reasons for staying aren't good enough!" Jin's voice started low yet with every sentence his tone kept increasing, frustrated by the fact that he had just thought of trying to push him out.
He knew him well and thus he was always aware that Jimin felt guilty towards him for he considered himself a burden to him, but to him, it wasn't like that. He was helping him because he wanted to, he was helping him because he wanted to see him happy and he believe that he deserved peace.
"I am sorry Hyung...I-...sometimes I just can't see a reason why anyone would love me or care for me...and I doubt if anyone truly does...but I won't doubt you, I am sorry." Jimin slowly brought his eyes to meet his, feeling horrible for he had let his dark thoughts project in a way that he had hurt the feelings of someone he cared about.
"You are stupid and blind! You are Park Jimin, you are you, stop searching for reasons, you, as you are, is enough. And if your mind is still hazy I can slap you as many times as it's needed for it to clear." Jin warned him and hit his head lightly this time, making Jimin laugh for real this time. A peal of laughter that somehow reassured him inside and soothed the ache on his chest.
"Such a troublemaker seriously. Aish" Jin ruffled his hair as he couldn't help but smile along before he walked to the fridge and got out of it a cold pack, leaving it in front of him before he left to proceed with that phone call.
Jimin took hold of the cold pack and carefully placed it on the side of his cheek that had now gotten a bit read, his low giggles still echoing around as he joked over the fact that Jin had a heavy hand.
"You sure didn't hesitate to take the chance to hit me huh?!" He raised his voice in order to be heard and Jin's head soon popped by the corner of the corridor, before it disappeared again and his middle finger greeted him briefly before that too disappeared, leaving Jimin in a new wave of laughter that made his cheek hurt more but it also made the heavy veil inside him, feel lighter.
"Ruthless son of a- oh wait! I can't even curse at him, his mother is my aunt...unfair." He joked with himself, looking like a crazy person who was talking to himself but that didn't worry him at all.
---Time skip---
You and Sonia were gathering the cleaning products to your cart as you had finished the last room you had assigned to clean for today.
"I can't believe we finished so early today, you were on fire!" Sonia displayed her enthusiasm at you, finding this moment one of the reasons she thought of herself as lucky to have you as her partner in cleaning.
"You told me is your child's birthday. What better but to go and wish him first thing in the morning, since you missed midnight because of work. Plus, I slept so well and I am full of energy, I surprisingly enjoyed working tonight." You admitted for sure it had gone smoothly and you had poured all your energy into it.
"I hope you sleep well more often then, I would get used to getting home two hours earlier than usual." She nagged your side with her elbow as she positioned herself to push the cart and you laughed at her before pulling the door of the room to close.
"Miss Kwan wouldn't like that if it was to occur often. She would most likely find new things to assign to us until our shift ends." You voiced your thoughts and Sonia's face morphed in displeasure at the mention of the name and only of your supervisor.
"That woman seriously never changes...Maybe we should find her a man, her nerves may calm down if she had one, plus he could distract her from making the workers' lives as miserable as hers." You couldn't help but laugh at Sonia's words as you both started walking down the corridor heading towards the elevator.
"I don't think her life is miserable because she doesn't have a man. Her life is miserable because Miss Kwan is Miss Kwan...most likely deep down even she hates herself" Sonia laughed at your reply, finding your words quite savage yet you hadn't meant them in an offensive way. You just thought that because of what she had done with the husband of her sister behind her sister's back, somewhere deep inside her, she must feel guilty and that may be the reason why she is the unbearable way she is.
But of course, that fact didn't make you pity her or anything along those lines. She had made her choice consciously and thus just like anyone else, she shall bear the consequences.
Once before the elevator you both quiet down, seeing it coming up already, yet you still pressed the button, in order to stop in on your floor. It was the workers' elevator so most likely some of your coworkers must be using it however, once the door opened, your eyes couldn't help but grow wide seeing Jungkook's manager standing right before you.
He looked at you almost as equally surprised, making you realize that there was no point in hiding at that moment while Sonia greeted him, surprised slight over the fact that a customer was using the wrong elevator.
"You work in his hotel too?" Was all that escaped his lips as you entered the small space and pressed the button you were heading to, as calmly as possible, while Sonia threw her eyes on you, assuming that you knew this man since he spoke directly to you and even to her, seemed a bit familiar. She couldn't quite pinpoint where she had seen him though.
"Is it a crime to have two jobs, Sir?" You questioned him, while not sparing him a glance, assuming by the floor that the elevator headed that Jungkook must be tonight in his usual room again, instead of being in his house.
"No, of course not...I guess it makes sense now, why Jungkook is still lurking around here. Is this how you two meet each other? I guess it's safer to pleasure him this way."
"Excuse me, Sir, what are you trying to imply exactly? This is a hotel and we are cleaning staff, we don't meet anyone for any purpose while in working hours. And you don't have any right to blame her for anything. So mind your business!" Sonia snapped at him as she took hold of your hand and pulled you closer to her side and the cart, finding the man rude and having the need to protect you for as he mentioned Jungkook, she understood that whoever that guy is, was trying to involve you in some kind of a mess.
Mr Duho seemed taken aback briefly but he said nothing and just exited once the elevator opened its doors for him, Sonia's stare accompanying his back until the doors closing got him out of your view.
"Yah, what is going on? Just because you got out once with him, don't tell me that he asked anything inappropriate of you? Famous jerks that think that they can have everything seriously! Huh! I will break his face next time I see him. I thought he was a good guy! That ass-"
"Calm down, calm down. It's not like that. Jungkook didn't do anything. It's just that his manager isn't fond of the fact that I am a mare cleaning worker. It's no big deal really, nothing was going on between me and that actor anyways. Forget about it." You patted her back and smiled at her in an attempt to reassure her as you spoke partially the truth, however, the fact that you came across him in this environment surely was not and much of a nonchalant fact to you as you would like to pretend it to be.
Because now that he knew that you work here too when he comes to know that you are Jimin's new assistant as well, he could put two and two together and actually realize that you were after him and an enemy that knows is always harder to catch. You had the advantage of surprise towards him and anyone else that was behind him so far, because you weren't on their map and they didn't see you as a danger however if you get to lose that advantage, things surely could get more difficult for you.
Your phone that started buzzing brought your conversation to a halt and you excused yourself right as the elevator opened its doors again and Sonia started taking care of the cart, allowing you to attend your phone call, which was coming from none other than Jimin.
You waited until she went far enough before replying though, finding the late hour that he was calling you a bit alarming but not unexpected.
He must be unable to sleep again
You thought as you opened the call and left your cheerful hello reach his ears, a smile on your lips that you weren't aware that had risen.
"You either are happy that I called, or you had a good time at work...yet again someone may be holding a gun on your head, no way you would sound so cheerful on your own." Jimin started teasing, making you drop that smile and roll your eyes at him.
"Why did you call me? You do know that I am at work, right?"
"Now this sounds more like you. I guess you weren't at gunpoint after all. That's a relief," He annoyed you further, making you question why were you happy that he called to begin with.
"Just tell me what you want, I don't have time to waste." You left your back to lean against a wall as you waited for his reply, now less worried as he seemed like he had called just to pass his time.
"Okay, I will get straight to the point then...at the party that you attended with Jeon... did you notice anyone that could be potentially suspicious. Someone who could know your identity and the fact that you are my new assistant?" His words brought instantly only one person to mind and you fell silent, finding it difficult to speak of her name, because of who she was to Jin and Jimin.
"What's wrong? Why did you fall silent?" He couldn't help but point out the gap you left while contemplating in your head over what was the right thing to do.
"No, it's nothing. I didn't see anyone at that party." You decided to keep it to yourself for now as you had no concrete proof against her and you wouldn't like to put suspicions on a potentially innocent person.
"Why are you asking though? Did something happen?" You added, yet it was Jimin's turn to fall silent this time, making you certain that something indeed had occurred.
"You are not lying to me, are you?... You know we shouldn't hide information from each other, no matter how small it may be...If you have something I would like you to mention it to me." His words made you feel slightly guilty but also exposed. It was as if he already knew something but was waiting for you to give him a name.
"Can I...come to meet you up close?" Your gaze looked around as you spoke those words, feeling slightly alert but it was better to have him face to face while speaking of your suspicions regarding someone that was so important in his life.
You had nothing against her and the fact that she was there meant nothing, yet you couldn't deny the fact that Jimin would be better to know that his psychiatrist has connections with his enemies.
"Be here in an hour. I will inform the guard of your arrival." He replied before he hang up and looked at Jin who was now seated beside him on his couch staring at the ceiling in complete disbelief, looking utterly lost.
For just a few minutes ago, the person he had called to track the unknown number that had texted Jimin had informed him that the number was bought a day prior, and was registered under his girlfriend's name.
---To be continued...
I finally managed to write. Thank you all for waiting on me, it has been a messy period for me and had yet to end but after I get free to go back home, I hope I will be in better condition and manage to write more. Take care of yourselves~
