Chapter 43
What is it that makes a human being be considered as such? Is it the DNA, the outer appearance we commonly share, the way our body functions, our minds, our hearts? You could be presented with such a perfect reply to that question, scientifically correct and simple yet somehow that simplicity does not feel enough to portray right a species such as humans are. For a proper definition is too good to be talking about a human being. It's like an oxymoron.
However in his mind, whenever he was to feel detached from the people around him to the point that he felt like an outsider, Jimin reminded himself of the one thing that he will always have in common with anyone and anything and that was pain itself. For no human being exists that was never hurt one way or another, to the point that for him, the answer to what makes a human being such, ended up being that simple yet complex word. Pain.
It was so perfect to describe us all. So true and clear so deep yet overlooked because of how common it is. Overrated in the eyes of some, seen as something that does not evolve easily, just like humans. For Jimin, we were made from pain, and it defines humanity more than a proper scientific response. More than any outer appearance or similar DNA code. Pain resigns inside us, accompanying us like a shadow of any other emotion we may feel. Lurking like a ghost, like a lonely soul that is in need to be in touch with us, no matter how much we hate it and try to run away from it.
Did pain, felt as hurt by how much invisible some want him to be? Was that why he tries to hug us tighter and hurt us enough so we will recall its existence. It sure must feel lonely, being dreadful and unwanted as he was and maybe that was why he loved Jimin so. Because he had given up on hating him and running away from Pain. He had embraced him as part of himself and was using all the feelings that his friend pain has ever touched within him, to thrive in the situations life threw at him.
And that was why one more time, he found himself feeling almost thankful that he was broken for otherwise he would have been unable to bring out the emotions of his character to this perfection that had literally brought the director to tears. The filming had come to a pause as he had acted the scene where he silently observed the female lead getting kissed by her escort. A scene that was supposed to break his character's heart to pieces enough that he was to portray a slip of his sanity. An emotion that was familiar to him for he had done more than cross that line, just temporarily.
He observed the people around him that were visibly saddened, looking at him with teary eyes, moved by his acting and all he wondered was why? Why was that scene sad? Why did they claim to feel sorry for the character he was playing as if he was pitiful. Jimin could not understand because he did not think anything alongside those lines for the character he was playing. In his eyes he was not a victim, in his eyes he was not getting broken by life as most would claim after watching this series. In his eyes, the character he was representing was weak, and thus he was meant to be broken. Why did he have to pity him, when life was only treating him as a human? That was what he was after all.
He is given pain not to be punished but to be justified. He is given hardship not to withstand it but to use it in his future. He is given treason as a test of temptation, so he can prove his soul and what kind of person he really was. For it is easy to be good if nothing ever threaten or dared you to be anything else. It is when you are put before two options that you make a choice and it is that choice that will define you as a human. It will define what kind of relationship you will have with pain. It sure sounded foolish to him, wanting to be a foe of something so powerful and knowing the script he knew the choice of his character and because of that he did not consider him a victim to be pitied. He just saw him as someone who made a choice, as he should. Someone that was put before a dilemma and chose to cross the line of sanity, simply because feeling hurt him more.
"Mr Park, here have some water, before we resume." A young man that spoke to him, got him out of his trail of thought as he reached to him a bottle of water which the man quickly proceeded to open before leaving on his hold both the bottle and the cap.
Jimin took some sips out of it, feeling a bit thirsty and then signalled DongMin to come to get it from him, but you rushed out instead as at that moment DongMin was attending a phone call as quietly as he could manage. You speed up carefully to his side, avoiding stepping into anyone's dress as most extra female actresses were wearing pretty long gowns.
"I will take it." You murmured once before him, stretching your hand out for him to give you the bottle but instead, the bottle slipped from his fingers, creating a loud sound once it collided with the floor.
Most brought their attention at you two upon hearing that noise and Jimin just stood there frozen for a moment, looking at you in a way that had you perplexed. He took a step back in a rather heavy way as if something had pulled his body backwards and he had taken a step in order to maintain his straight posture and not fall.
"Hey, are you okay?" You took hold of his shoulder as you watched over his face in worry and he brought his eyes to finally meet yours, only to flash a weak smile at you, soon enough.
"I am okay. I guess the medicine is just wearing off or something." He softly spoke so none other but you could hear, then turned around and lowered his head, in an attempt to apologize for the commotion he may have caused, concealing the wave of pain that had suddenly hit him.
"Go," He ushered you and you grabbed the bottle quickly and left, as another staff member hurried to come to dry the floor so they could continue filming.
Once you reached near DongMin, you kept observing Jimin, wondering if his pain was really that strong that had made the effect of that medicine get loose way more prior than DongMin had said.
You looked towards him in order to ask him but he still seemed quite focused on his phone call, making you nug him with your elbow at the side of his body, in order to get his attention
"DongMin, how many hours did you say that the painkilling medicine lasts?" You whispered to him and he showed four fingers with his free hand, before proceeding to speak on his phone.
His answer had left you confused as definitely had not passed that much time since Jimin had sprayed it on.
"Oh thank God. My throat is about to give up on me with all this low talking ." DongMin hung up his call and left his complaint to escape before he grabbed the bottle of water you were holding, thinking that it contained some water in it, but it turns out that not even a droplet was left. His face morphed in disappointment for a moment then as he kept looking at it, his eyebrows furrowed and he lifted his gaze to look at you.
"Where did you found this bottle of water?"
"What? Jimin drunk from it and-"
"Jimin? But we don't use this kind of brand as a staff. We get always the same water brand because we are sponsored by it. The heck he got this from?" He expressed his thoughts as his eyes travelled back to the bottle and yours just opened wide before you shot your head towards Jimin who looked towards the mirrored part briefly, before the sound of the dump slate echoed and he returned to his character, ready to go on with his filming.
