Error's Axetale Temmie - Fairytale - Nightmare's Interlude
Nightmare sighed as he placed his elbow on the windowsill, he had found the window with the attached window seat while looking for a way out.
Cross had fallen asleep a while ago, wrapped up in a little nest on the couch. It was quiet.
The window was too high for them to climb down from, and jumping from it would be suicide, they couldn't summon their blasters to save them.
He and Cross were stuck here until they found a way out, someone saved them, or Nightmare agreed to that deal.
How did that Magic User do this to them? This shouldn't be possible, what was really going on here?
He sighed again and he got up to walk over to a bookcase where he found a few books and scrolls, he might as well do something useful with his time instead of moping around and being miserable. He might find a map of this place in his reading material.
He settled back down with his reading material, opening one of the scrolls.
"The Tale of Prince Error and Prince Nightmare."
"Error? Why would Error be mentioned in this scroll, unless, he's here too..."
"In a small Kingdom, lived a Prince named Error. He didn't show himself very often but everyone knew that he was kind and that he cared about them. They wished that one day, the Prince would met someone special that would give him the love that he deserved.
And one day, he did.
Prince Nightmare was one of the two Princes from another Kingdom, his brother, Prince Dream, took care of the civilians and the diplomacy while Prince Nightmare made sure that the Kingdom could survive and that the laws were fair and just.
Prince Nightmare was known to be a bit cruel and even heartless sometimes but he did care a lot for those that he chose to love. He had a habit of becoming a parental figure to those who needed one in their life, without knowing about it.
Prince Nightmare later ended up adopting Dust, Killer, Horror and Cross, all four of them were Princes from other Kingdoms that had fallen due to corruption, greed, famine and madness. Nightmare gave back to them what they had lost and they swore eternal loyalty to him but in time, they became a family."
"So, Dream and the rest of my boys are here too?"
"Prince Dream was so happy, here was everything that he wanted for his brother, who had become the Dark to his Light, to protect him and their Kingdom but there was something missing.
One day, when Prince Dream was sick, Prince Nightmare had to meet Prince Error, who was visiting them for political reasons. It wasn't love at first sight but over time, a bond of trust, and eventually love developed between them.
The other Princes approved of Prince Error and with some help from Prince Dream, started to come up with ways to get them together. Everyone knew that they were made for each other when Prince Error turned up to a meeting with a Princess that he had adopted. And yes, we're talking about the Little Temmie! Who has finally admitted that she sees him as her Dad!"
"Well, it's about time! Those two have been dancing around that subject ever since that time their bodies got swapped."
"And with that addition, it seemed like the small family was completed. Prince Nightmare eventually asked for Prince Error's hand in marriage and soon, the planning for the wedding began.
But Prince Nightmare had suitors of his own and one of them was unhappy that his chosen Prince had refused his offer. This suitor was a Magic user and he vowed that he would have his revenge and Prince Nightmare's hand in marriage.
And so, on the night of the Engagement Ball, he attacked, taking Prince Nightmare and Prince Cross when he tried to stop him.
The princess was cursed during the attack, to be trapped in the form of an Axetale Temmie during the day and freed to take on her original form at night."
"That explains why that Magic User said 'both of them'. Error is not going to be happy."
"And Prince Error outraged and pissed at this guy for thinking that he could kidnap two members of his family, and curse a third, set out on a quest to get them back, accompanied by his cursed daughter and the Royal Mage Blue, who is currently on a vacation."
"So, Blue is here too." Nightmare shut the scroll. "What the hell is going on here? I didn't have any suitors, Dream was the one with the suitors and several names are missing from this scroll, it almost like the real story was cleaned up for a younger audience."
Nightmare frowned, putting the scroll down so that he could lean back in the window seat and place his hands over his eyesockets, allowing him to block out the moonlight and think. 'Something is not right here, it's like we were dumped into the middle of a story and the world around us rewritten so that we fit into it. I don't have enough information to know what's going on here and without outside help, Cross and I are stuck here.'
He picked up another book, flicking through the pages until he realised that one of them was too thick to be a page. He went back to that page and he found a hole in it. He carefully used the hole to help him open up the page to see what was hidden within it.
A map.
He unfolded the map, coughing a bit from the dust that came from it as he spread it across his knees. It seemed to be a map of the tower, mainly their room, which actually turned out to be a two floor apartment, the level that they were currently on had the bedroom, a small library, which they were currently in, and a bathroom, while the floor above them had a kitchen, living room and a empty room that could be used as a bedroom.
Nightmare started to create a plan, the map had various different secret passageways that connected the rooms together and some of them were even said to lead to other parts of the tower and even a throne room, they had to figure out which ones still worked and were useable and which ones they couldn't use to escape.
However, if this part of the plan was unsuccessful, then they would have to wait for Error to come and save them, Nightmare knew that the Destroyer would save them. They were his and he was theirs, Monsters like them stayed together, no matter what happened. Error would save them.
They could keep themselves busy, if using the secret passageways to escape failed, by exploring the apartment. Nightmare knew what kind of villian that the Magic User was, they were the kind that loved to monologue, he did that occasionally himself, but only when he knew that he could get away with it, finding places to hide when that Magic User came to visit did make it seem that they were taking the coward's way out, but he and Cross was stuck in a trap that placed limits on what they could do.
They may be unable to escape but they could do what they could to buy Error some more time, even if it meant taking the coward's way out.
The third part of the plan was a idea that he was still fleshing out. Cross had a higher chance to escape as a rabbit, due to some of it's natural abilities but Cross was loyal, he would never abandon him without being ordered to or taken away by force.
He didn't know how long he had sent there, sitting and thinking, but only the faint light of a rising sun brought him back to his senses. He stretched his hands above his head, feeling the bones crack as they woke up. He removed the map from his knees and he placed it with his reading material when he heard Cross yelp.
"Cross!" He yelled, running over to the nest as cracks echoed from it, peeling away the blankets to reveal Cross, who was rubbing his head.
"Dad?" Cross sat up and he stretched, wincing at several leftover spikes of pain from his transformation. "What time is it?"
"It's dawn, you slept for the entire night Cross."
"Oh..." Cross said, before something fluffy flopped down in front of one of his eyesockets. "Dad, why do I have bunny ears?!"
"WHAT?!"
-----------------------------------------------------
"I'm actually starting to enjoy this AU."
"Of course you would, you are our resident blackmail gnome."
-----------------------------------------------------
Nightmare stared at the fluffy bunny ears that Cross now had, one of them was crooked and it covered one of his eyesockets while the other one was straight. Cross had also discovered that he was now the owner of a fluffy tail.
"This must be a side effect of that curse." Nightmare muttered , before he tossed the scroll with the legend in it to Cross. "Read that scroll Cross, it seems to explain part of what's going on here. I'm going to find the kitchen, I found a map, we need to be at the top of our game here."
"But, what if the food is drugged?" Cross asked. "And how do we know that it's safe to eat?"
"You can't drug everything Cross, there has to be some food free of it and besides, this guy wants us alive, he's not going to risk having his plans ruined because of drugged food, he wants us in one piece Cross."
"You're right about that, just be careful."
Cross opened the scroll as Nightmare left the room, settling down to read it.
