≈Miami, FL...

(3:18 p.m)

"Hey mummy ! " The twins greeted their mother at the same time climbing in the backseat. 

"Hey mummy's babies ! How was school ? " She greeted them back turning around to face them. After what happened at home, she talked with Kalvin seriously about him moving in and how they were going to tell the kids and also how to deal with Cameron for everyone to be safe. Then she finally cleaned her mess, took a shower and dressed as he went back to his condo to pack a bag. She was tired to feel so bad because of her ex. She wanted to be a strong woman. She wanted to be an example for her own daughter and despairing because of a man was not how she wanted Acacia to see her. She wanted her angel not to go through the same path and to do better with her life. 

Almar shrugged, "It was school." He answered nonchalantly. 

"Yeah, nothing special happened." Acacia said agreeing with her brother. 

Cora nodded her head and then drove them back home. In her mind she was hoping that they were not going to react bad to the news. Like two or three weeks ago, they found out about the baby. And now Kalvin was going to live with them. They were just starting getting along, she didn't want everything to go too fast, but they had to do this. It was for their security.

Arrived at home, the twins ran upstairs to put their backpack down and to change their clothes for something more comfortable. Then they went back downstairs to eat their snacks and watch some TV to relax. Their mother always leave them one hour to do this before the homework. 

Thirty minutes later, someone rang the doorbell. They looked at each other wondering who it could be. One minute after, Cora was opening the door and then Kalvin walked in. 

"Hey. So, did you tell them ? And did he try to get in contact with you ? " 

She shook her head closing the front door once he was inside, "No, they don't know, I want us to tell them together and no I didn't hear from him." 

Then they joined the kids in the living room where they were watching Spongebob. Cora took the remote and turned the TV off, "We have to talk." She annunced them sitting on the other couch with Kalvin. 

Acacia frowned, "But we did nothing this time." She defended her and her sibling immediately. 

"Yeah, we know. But...Uh...some little things are gonna change." Kalvin said looking at them. 

"Like what ? " Almar asked curiously.

"Well...Kalvin is going to live with us from now. And..." She took a deep breath, "...your...father...is...in Miami." Cora let them know getting nervous. They had never really talked about Cameron. Actually, they never really asked about him. The only time they wanted to know something was when they were about five years old and were wondering why they hadn't a father like others kids. Cora explained them that she still hadn't find the best father for them, so they had to wait. Fortunately for her, they took this as an answer and never asked again.

"Our father ? " They asked in unison taken by surprise. 

Cora nodded her head slowly, "Yeah and that's why Kalvin is staying with us now." She continued to explain to them.

"What ? It's making non-sense, mum." Almar said a bit lost.

Cora sighed, "Listen...I...Your father...is someone dangerous...and...he wants...Uh...to see you two...but...Uh...I don't want to...because I don't want him to...hurt you." She sighed not knowing what to tell them without scaring them, "You're my life and it will kill me if something happens to you. Uh...Kalvin is here so...we...can...protect you. I know, it's confusing, but...trust me. Okay ? "

"We trust you, mum. But...Kalvin in our house...we don't really know about this. I mean, we don't hate him, but...we don't know him like that. Maybe, he's dangerous too." Acacia said staring at Kalvin with narrowed eyes.

Kalvin cleared his throat, "I'm not here to hurt you or your mother. I just want all of y'all to be safe. Listen, I met...him earlier today and..." He didn't know what to say next without talking crazy about their father. 

Almar frowned, "And what ? " 

Kalvin really didn't know which words he should use. How to describe that horrible man who was about to put his hand on their mother after he disrespect her in her house and mainly all the pain he caused to her in the past. How to describe that man who didn't want them and left as soon as he found out about the pregnancy. He thought for a moment, but hadn't found the words. He sighed, "He's not the nicest person of the world." After he said that, there was a little silence.

"Anyways, it was going to happen...since...the baby...Uh..." Acacia started trailing off. The kids were completely aware of the baby situation. They knew that within the next months, their life was going to change more and more. Acacia's best friend, Malika, went through the same thing and she explained to them how everything was going to go from now that their mother had a bun in the oven. 

"Yeah...we understand...kind of..." Almar added nodding his head slowly.

Cora smiled a bit, "Well...Kalvin will sleep in the guest room."

"Okay." They said in unison.

"Thanks to welcome me in your house. I promise, I won't bother y'all." Kalvin assured Cora and the children.

"Okay. Can we continue to watch Spongebob now ? " Almar asked already taking the remote, that was on the coffee table.

"Yeah." She answered beaming. It went better than what she thought, "Uh...Kalvin, c'mon I'm going to show you your room." She motioned for him to follow her.

They went upstairs, "So...down the hall, there are the kids' rooms and here their bathroom, but you, you're going to use mine. Uh...so here the guest room and next to it, there is mine. If you need something, you know where to find me. And downstairs, there are the living room and kitchen and a little garden in the back. And uh...we have to get you a key." She sighed passing her right hand in her hair.

"Hey, are you okay ? " Kalvin asked concerned.

She shook her head, "They..."She smiled trying to hold the tears back, "They're so sweet, they don't deserve it. He has no right to do this to them. Like...why is he back for ? " She confessed her worries as a teardrop ran on her left cheek.

Kalvin wiped it with his thumb and kissed her forehead. For him, she didn't deserve to go through that hard situation. Her and her kids didn't need to go through this. Life was so unfair, sometimes. He stared into her eyes. He could read sadness, pain and rage. He wished he could make all this disappear with a snap and replace these emotions with pure happiness, "Don't worry, Cora. Everything is gonna be alright. I'm here to protect y'all."

She chuckled sarcastically, "Yeah, of course. I'm the little damsel in distress and you're the hero, the prince charming. It's pathetic ! I should be able to protect myself and mostly my children. There is always someone to fight with me, but this...it's my battle, my war. I s-"

"C'mon now. There is nothing pathetic here. You're a strong woman, Cora. You raised your children all by yourself, you're providing for your family and you're carrying my baby. A pregnancy can be a pain in the ass and you have to go though a lot emotionally and physically. Man, I respect y'all females for that, because I know that I wouldn't be able to do all of this. And the birth, oh my Gosh ! Just for that, you're really strong. But then you're not just a...mother. You're a successful and independent woman, who is running her own business. It's not pathetic to get help, Cora. Ain't nothing wrong with that. Plus, we don't need you to stress about all of this drama like that." 

Cora grinned hearing him compliment her, "Thanks."

"We're a team now, okay ? " 

She nodded her head yes, "Seriously, they should make more like you in this world." 

He smiled showing his dimples, "Aww, no stop before I start blushing." They laughed, "Hey, I'm gonna unpack my things real quick, then I can go grocery shopping for you. Well, if you need to and tonight, I take care of the dinner."

For a moment, Cora thought that, maybe, she was dreaming. He was really a good man.

"I have the list here with me, so don't try to make me buy candy or toys." Kalvin warned the twins looking at them with a serious look, "Y'all can look, but don't touch shit." 

Acacia rolled her eyes, "Well, I know a somebody who is going to be in trouble. Shit." 

"Hey, little girl, don't start that with me."

"Plus, you said the word too." Almar joined the conversation. 

She smacked her teeth, "Who is your sister again ? " She asked narrowing her eyes at her brother. 

"First of all, I'm NOT a girl, so I don't know what you're talking about. Can you just close your mouth please ? Because you're making non-sense." 

"Your face is making non-sense." She mumbled under her breath, but they heard her. 

Almar began to laugh as Kalvin just kept pushing the cart, "Ain't nobody got time to argue with a damn kid." He mumbled also shaking his head. 

"I heard you, Mr.Ryans. And why are you wearing a hoodie and sunglasses ? You're not that famous, amigo." 

He smacked his lips, "We're nothing near amigos right now, Dracula." 

"I prefer Cleopatra or princess or boss." 

"Can you two stop ? You're annoying. We're supposed to do grocery shopping."

"How comes you're so damn calm while the chimpanzee here is so wild ? I thought you were twins." He asked making Almar laugh and his sister frown. 

"I'm not a chimpanzee, neither wild. You better watch your mouth, Mr.Ryans. Who knows what I can give away this time. Plus, you're living with us, so it would be easier to make your life terrible." She said as they were walking through the cereals aisle. 

"What did I do to you exactly ? " 

She hummed, "Hm...being born...hm...I don't know." She answered causing him to roll his eyes. 

"Well, I was on this planet before you, Einstein. So once again, you're making non-sense." 

"Yes, I do." She contradicted him.

"Naaaah ! " 

"Yeees ! " 

And they went like that for five entire minutes getting on Almar last nerves. It was like you had put a cat and a dog in the same room. He couldn't hear them arguing anymore. Mainly that it was so petty. He couldn't even remember why they started. 

"Shut up ! "He screamed getting some others persons attention. 

"Why are you acting like you had never seen black people before ? Keep moving and mind your business ! " Kalvin said since they began to stare at them like they were some animals in the zoo. 

"Young man, you're really rude." A white old woman said shooting him a dirty glare. 

"Well, you're nosey and it's not polite. So why are you talking ? Move out my way with that bull. Ain't nobody got time for that." 

She shook her head, "You can at least s-"

"Witch, he just told you to move out the way." Acacia cut her off getting irritated. The old woman gasped and walked away as fast as she could. 

Kalvin looked at the ten years old, "You have a big mouth. You should learn how to control it." 

She chuckled, "Please, who is talking ? If you work on yours, I'll work on mine though." She said holding her hand out. 

Kalvin snorted, "I'm a grown man, I don't have to do this." 

"C'mon, Kal." Almar encouraged him. He sighed rolling his eyes playfully and shook hands with Acacia. And at the same time, he realized that they had actually made a new step in their relationship.

"Okay, well let's start now. I'm sorry for earlier." He said smiling.

"A, your turn." Almar said waiting for his sister to talk.

She sighed, but then smiled, "I accepted your apology and I'm sorry too. Your face is making sense and I'm honored to walk in town in the presence of a star of basketball like you, even if I know nothing about this sport. By the way, that's why I, well we, didn't recognize you the first day we met."

"I accepted your apology, even if it was a little too much. And, I can introduce y'all to the sport if you want."

Almar beamed excited, "Oh yeah cool ! "  

"No, thanks. I'll be fine. I prefer to learn some things about makeup, fashion, bra and others things like that." 

Kalvin chuckled nervously, "Well, you'll talk about it with your mother." 

The three shared a laugh, "You know, I think we can give you a chance after all." Acacia said and Almar nodded agreeing. 

Yes, they were definitely making some progress.
