Chapter 9

I started to close my locker but paused when someone shouted my name.

"Alex" Scott repeated.

I pretended I couldn't hear and slammed my locker door shut, clutching the books to my chest.

"Alex wait" Scott touched my arm gently.

I sighed and turned around to face him.

"What?"

"The other night. We should talk about it"

"Scott I-"

"Did it mean anything to you?" He asked.

"Did it mean anything to you?" I raised an eyebrow.

He opened his mouth to reply but the bell cut him off.

"I gotta go to class" I mumbled and took off before he could say another word.

Man I messed up. Again.

As I was rushing down the corridor, I heard my name being shouted.

I let out a breath of relief when I realised it was Lydia.

"Hey" I smiled.

"I saw that"

"Saw what?" I frowned.

"You two. You're totally into each other. I've noticed it for a while"

I almost choked. "Sorry what?"

"You and Scott" she prompted. "Come on the way he's been looking at you lately. The way you've both been acting"

"I don't know what you're talking about" I said it smoothly but the blush on my cheeks let me down.

"You like him" she teased in a sing-song voice.

"No I don't" I lied.

"Yes you do"

"Ah fuck" I mumbled. "What am I gonna do? He's my brothers best friend"

"Find out if he likes you back" she shrugged.

"It's not that simple. I mean it kinda is. Well we kissed last night but-"

"So he's into you?"

"Scott and Allison only just broke up. He's still got feelings for her. How do I know I'm not like some kinda rebound" I argued back.

"Do you know one of the reasons why they broke up?"

"What?"

"Allison. She started to see the change in friendship between you and Scott. She wasn't mad, maybe a little jealous. Their time together had ended anyway. But one of her reasons for ending it completely were you two. She wanted him to be happy. She wanted you to be happy"

"Now I feel bad. And terrified. What if Stiles noticed these so called 'signs' too"

Lydia took my arm as we headed to our class.

"Trust me. Stiles is insanely clever but when it comes to romance" she smiled, flicking her hair behind her shoulders. "He doesn't have a clue"

~

As I was walking past the boys locker room to find my friends, as all of them had suddenly disappeared, I heard a massive crash.

I stopped in my tracks and stood in front of the door, debating on whether or not to enter.

I heard footsteps pounding down the corridor and Ethan pushed past me and went inside.

"What's going on?" Stiles asked me.

"I don't know. I just got here"

Scott and Stiles headed inside and I followed nervously.

Aiden was stood holding one of the weights above Cora, who was on the floor.

"Aiden, stop! Stop! Stop!" I heard Lydia yell.

Ethan and Scott rushed forwards.

"You can't do this!" Ethan yelled, trying to tug him away.

"She came at me!" Aiden yelled.

"It doesn't matter! Kali gave Derek until the next full moon. You can't touch him or her"

Stiles and I both bent down next to Cora, who was clutching her head in pain.

"Hey, guys, I think she's pretty hurt" Stiles said.

Ethan tugged Aiden out of the room and we helped Cora stand. Scott gave her a cloth to wipe away the blood.

"You okay?" Stiles asked.

"She doesn't look okay" Lydia commented.

"I'll heal" She said. She turned around to face us but ended up swaying to the side.

"Uh-Oh" Stiles tried to steady her.

"I said I'm fine" she snapped.

"Do you realize how suicidally crazy that was? What were you thinking going after them?" My brother asked her.

"I did it for Boyd. None of you were doing anything"

"We're trying" Scott argued.

"And you're failing. You're just a bunch of stupid teenagers running around, thinking that you can stop people from getting killed. But all you do is show up late. All you really do is find the bodies"

"She's definitely a Hale" Stiles pointed out. "I'll make sure she gets home"

~

I slammed my locker shut and was about to head to my next lesson when I heard a familiar scream.

"Lydia" I said out loud.

I pushed past a group of people and found myself by a classroom where she was stood, staring at a whiteboard.

"Lydia?" I asked.

She turned around to face me, chalk in her hand. I glanced past her to see some kind of drawing on the board.

"He's gone" was all she said.

"Who's gone?"

The door burst open again and Aiden, followed by Miss Blake, came inside.

"What's going on?" Miss Blake demanded.

"I heard a scream" Aiden said.

"Mr Whestover" Lydia said. "He's gone"

A whole group of students started to gather around the door whilst staff with walkie talkies made their way into the room.

I noticed Scott and headed over to him.

"What's going on?" He asked.

"Honestly, I don't actually have a clue"

"I don't get why no one's calling the police" Lydia said, crossing her arms.

"They're gonna make an announcement over the P.A" Miss Blake shrugged.

"That's not gonna do anything! I told you, he's gone. Like the others, taken" she exclaimed.

"Okay. Look, we're just trying to understand, okay? All we know is that Mr Westover didn't show up for class" Miss Blake said calmly.

Too calmly,

"And the last time that happened was Mr. Harris. Anyone heard from him lately? He's gone. And he's going to be the second murder" Lydia pointed at the number two drawn on the board.

"But, Lydia, you wrote that number" Miss Blake pointed out.

She sighed. "Okay, fine. I'm psychic"

"You're psychic?" Miss Blake said with a bit of a laugh.

"I'm something!" She yelled.

"A deputy and a teacher? What's the pattern?" I asked Scott.

He sighed. "I don't know"

I frowned. Virgins? Guardians? Deputy? Teacher?

Deputy.

Teacher.

My eyes widened.

"Scott" I blurted.

"What?"

"Tara, the deputy. She used to do maths homework with Stiles and I at the station when we were waiting for dad. She used to teach in middle school" I rushed out. "It's not guardians, Scott. It's philosophers"

~

"We were wrong. It's not guardians as in law enforcement. It's philosophers as in teachers. And Allison and her father just found Mr. Westover" Scott said over the phone to Stiles.

"That makes sense. Tara, she wasn't always a cop. She used to teach middle school" Stiles' voice came through the speaker.

"Then the last one's gonna be another teacher" I pointed out.

"Yeah, but there's dozens of them and they're all headed home" Stiles reminded.

"No. No, they're not" Scott said, looking in the direction of the school doors.

"They're all going to the recital" I finished.

Scott hung up the phone and I grabbed his hand, leading us inside the building.

We made our way to the back of the room where Lydia walked over to us.

"I thought you were going home?" I asked.

"I can't" she said. "I don't know why I am the one that keeps finding the bodies, but maybe if I just stopped trying to fight it, I'd find them before it happens, maybe with enough time for someone like you to do something about it.

"You get us the time, and we'll do something about it. I swear to God, we will" Scott said.

Lydia smiled and I squeezed her hand reassuringly.

The lights dimmed and I stepped forwards to get a better look at the concert.

I heard a phone buzzing behind me and I looked around expecting to see Lydia but she'd gone.

"Scott" I nudged him. "Where's Lydia?"

I heard the door open again and Stiles pushed his way through people to get to us.

Scott and I frowned at him. "What's wrong?"

~

"Lydia? Lydia!" The three of us yelled as we pushed open the door.

Scott stopped and scanned the area around us.

"Anything?" Stiles asked. "She's not answering texts"

"What do we do?" I asked worriedly.

"Scott?" Stiles questioned.

A loud scream suddenly sounded from inside the school and I watched as Scott clutched his head in pain.

"Scott?" Stiles and I asked.

"It's Lydia isn't it" I said. Scott looked up and me and nodded and I ran off before any of them could stop me.

I pushed against every door, trying to listen out for a sound.

I could hear Scott and Stiles sprinting down the hall behind me.

I stopped outside Miss Blake's room and opened the door, spotting Lydia tied up in a chair.

"Lydia-" I started. I paused when I noticed my father on the floor.

"Dad!" I exclaimed

Miss Blake smirked and edged closer to me.

Scott suddenly came hurtling through the door with a roar.

He held his arm out protectively in front of me.

I dropped down next to my dad as Scott and Miss Blake fought.

"Dad?" I asked. "Dad!"

"Alex get out of here now" he said weakly.

I heard a yell and turned around to see Scott crashing against the desks.

I stood up quickly as Miss Blake came closer to me.

Slowly, I started to move backwards.

"Leave her alone!" Scott choked out.

My back hit against the wall but Miss Blake kept coming closer.

"I said leave her alone!"

"He seems to care about you" Miss Blake said to me, in a tone you would speak to a child in. "It would be such a shame if you got hurt"

I stood up straighter, hands curled into a fist.

"Fuck. You"

I swung my arm round but she blocked the hit.

Quickly, I ducked and moved out of her way into the other direction.

"You think you can beat me?" She laughed.

"I can try"

She knocked me down to the floor and I immediately swung my leg round, almost knocking her off her feet.

She looked mad.

I scrambled up off the floor and moved backwards again as she kept on coming closer.

Shit. What have I done.

Before I could defend myself, I was pushed backwards and sliding across the floor.

I groaned in pain, trying to sit up, but my vision was hazy.

"There was a girl. Years ago. We found her in the woods. Her face and body slashed apart. That was you, wasn't it" I heard my dad say.

"Maybe I should have started with philosophers. With knowledge and strategy" Miss Blake said smugly.

I heard a gunshot go off and I lifted my head up.

Miss Blake mumbled something along the lines of 'healers' and the next thing I heard was the shouts of pain coming from my dad.

Fighting away the dark spots clouding my vision, I started to try and sit up.

"Warriors" I heard the Jennifer say. "Guardians"

A crushed Sheriff's badge suddenly landed beside me.

I picked it up and shifted so I was sitting up.

Scott brought me closer to him.

"Virgins"

I heard a loud inhumane scream and I pushed myself up to see the horrific face of a darach.

She was going to take my dad.

"No" I said weakly as I tried to pull myself up.

I heard glass shatter and suddenly both my dad and the Darach were gone.

Stiles stumbled inside the room and Scott managed to stand up.

"Dad?" Stiles called out.

Scott pulled me up and we stumbled towards the shattered glass window.

I felt like I couldn't breathe.

"Dad!"

A/N

Oh my god guys I'm so sorry it's been ages since I last updated.

I have been revising for mocks for the past few weeks and have honestly had no time to write.

I've been squeezing in a bit of writing every couple of days but it's just taken so long to do and ugh

My new found obsession with the vampire diaries hasn't helped either.

Anyway, I've finished mocks now so no more revision thank god.

Updates should get back to being more frequent from now on.

Once again, I'm sorry guys xo
