Chapter 26

So I was in Mexico.

On a new rescue mission.

Following another awful plan.

Pretty sure I'm not going to make it back to Beacon Hills in one piece.

"This doesn't seem so bad" Stiles commented.

"It's not the town, it's the plan" Lydia said.

"What's wrong with the plan?" Stiles asked.

Lydia and I shared a look.

"Stiles, this could be the stupidest plan we've ever come up with. You're aware of that, right?" I told my brother.

"I'm aware it's not our best"

"We are going to die" Lydia stated.

"Are you saying that as a Banshee or are you just being pessimistic?" My brother questioned Lydia.

"I'm saying it as a person who doesn't wanna die" she said.

"Okay. Would you just mind restricting any talk of death to actual Banshee predictions?"

"This plan is stupid and we're going to die"

"Oh, thank you"

"Mmm"

The three of us paused by the door, which was being guarded.

Lydia said something in fluent Spanish, only for the guy to shake his head.

Stiles sighed and pulled out the card in his pocket.

The guy at the door nodded and stepped aside for us to walk in.

The door locked behind us and the three of us exchanged nervous glances.

Lydia and I followed my brother down the hall. The sound of the music was causing objects attached to the wall to shake and vibrate.

We opened the door and stepped into a rave.

"Holy mother of god" I muttered as we pushed our way through the intoxicated bodies and to the bar.

The bartender placed three shot glasses in front of us.

"Uh" Stiles mumbled, looking around awkwardly because we didn't have any money to pay from them.

"No" a voice said from behind me, making me jump. "On the house" When none of us picked up our glass he spoke again. "Most American teenagers don't cross the border to refuse a drink"

"We didn't come to drink" Lydia said. She dropped the shell casing, which was engraved with a skull, into her glass.

The man eyed us before nodding at us to follow.

I glanced back at my drink, trying to resist the temptation.

Quickly, I grabbed it and downed it, only to look over and see my brother doing the same.

The two of us shared a look before turning and following Lydia and the guy, pretending as if nothing happened.

Lydia rolled her eyes and I heard her mumble "Twins".

~

"Severo hates this music. Me? I've always loved the music of youth.
This kind, especially. It has a savage energy" The woman said with a smirk.

"We're here for Derek Hale" Lydia stated.

"Is that so?"

"We know you have him" she said.

"We've heard he can be bought" I added.

Stiles pulled out the large wads of money and placed them on the table.

"It's 50,000 for Derek" he said.

"Now, where does a teenage boy get money like this? Japanese mafia?" She grinned.

The people behind us cocked their guns, causing us to turn around.

The woman leaned forwards on the table. "Not smart to come alone"

I leant forwards, mimicking her actions. "What makes you think we came alone?"

Her face fell and she stood up. "You brought a wolf into my home?"

I looked up at her with a sly grin on my face. "We brought an alpha"

~

"My friends" she sighed. "I don't think you're aware of your poor timing. Do you know what the dark moon is?"

"The part of the lunar phase when the moon is least visible in the sky" Lydia recited quickly.

"But do you know its meaning?"

"Some people say it's a time of reflection. Or grief" Lydia replied.

"Grief and loss, mija. I wonder why, when you and your friends have suffered so much loss, you would risk it again for someone like Derek Hale"

"'Cause we don't like to lose" My brother said.

The guards spoke over the radio. "Front door clear" said one. "South clear"

"North?" Questioned the guy in the room with us that had the walkie talkie.

The voice that finally came through was not a guards.

"Stiles. Take ten off the table"

My brother followed Scott's orders and placed the money back in his pocket.

"Maybe you should just take the deal" Lydia said.

"While I am keen to follow the warning of a banshee, I'm going to have to decline"

Stiles huffed. "Right, come on just give us Derek"

"You don't want him anyway. Have you noticed what a downer he is" I said.

"No sense of humour. Poor conversationalist" my brother continued.

I nodded. "Just come on, take the money"

She picked up the walkie talkie. "Severo? Show them how the Calaveras negotiate."

~

"He's awake" I said, noticing my boyfriend's eyes finally opening. "Guys he's awake!"

Everyone rushed over.

"Scott, you okay?" My twin asked.

I helped Scott sit up.

"They don't have him. They don't have Derek"

"We know. But right now they've got Lydia" Kira explained.

"Lydia?" He breathed out in shock. "What do they want with Lydia?"

"We don't know" I answered. "But we need to get out of here"

Scott stood up and headed over to the door. He tried pushing it open and I heard it creak but there was no hope.

"We already looked for a way out" Kira said. "I think a lot of people have"

"I say when the door opens again, we take out whoever is standing in the way and run for it" Malia spoke up.

"What about Lydia?" I reminded.

"What about Lydia?" Malia repeated with a frown.

"We're not leaving without her" Scott said as he came and stood by my side.

"Why not?"

I looked over at Stiles. "Is she serious right now?"

My brother headed over to Malia and out his hand on her shoulder. "Because we don't leave without people. Remember? We talked about this. Rules of the wild kingdom, don't apply to friends"

"Is that what you would do as a coyote?" Kira asked. "Leave her for dead?"

"If she was weak and injured yeah. If hunting had been bad that season I would eat her" Malia said. I nodded with a grimace. "Then I'd leave"

"Mm" Stiles mumbled. "Believe or not that's progress"

"Alright guys we're not dead yet. And that means Araya wants something" Scott said.

"But if the Calaveras don't know where Derek is, that means they didn't take him from the loft, right?" Kira asked.

"Maybe he left on his own" Stiles suggested.

Scott looked over at him. "Maybe someone else got to him"

The door suddenly burst open and three men stormed in, guns pointed in our direction.

Scott stepped in front of us. "Get back!"

~

I heard the struggled sounds of somebody trying to get free and looked over to see Lydia being dragged through the door.

"Oh god" she mumbled when she saw Scott tied down to the chair.

"Let her go. Look you've got me, just let the others go" Scott said desperately as they tied Lydia down to a chair.

I felt the guards grip tighten on my arm and he started to drag me over, despite my protests.

"Your hand goes here" he instructed, pressing it firmly down on the dial.

"Let me explain what's about to happen. This one, the human-" he indicated to me. "Is going to turn the dial on the alpha. If she doesn't, I turn the dial on the banshee"

"No" I struggled as I tried to get free. "I'm not going to do this"

"Are you sure? One of your friends has the power to heal. The other, not so much" he placed my hand down on the dial again.

"What are you doing? What is this, a game to you?" Scott asked.

"This is a test Lobito" Araya said. "Let's see if you pass" she started to pace the room. "We're going to ask some questions. You answer them, nobody gets hurt. You don't answer? We turn on the dial"

Scott turned to me. "Do what they say" he told me. "Do whatever they want. I can take it"

I nodded, feeling tears brimming in my eyes.

"So we don't know where Derek is.
We want to find him as well. You know who took him?"

"What? How would I know that?" Scott asked.

"That doesn't sound like an answer to me"

"We don't know" Lydia spoke up. "Why do you think we came here?"

"Alexa, turn the dial" Araya instructed.

"No" I said firmly.

"Should we turn the dial on the banshee instead?"

"No, no!" Scott shouted. "Do it, Alex. Do it"

I placed my hand on the dial for connected to Scott's chair, furiously trying not to cry.

Araya smirked. "Let's start at one"
