I clench my jaw and ignore the preteen on my arm.
Dave walks down the stairs, holding a small black bag. Presumably full of medical supplies and stuff.
"Go to Sarah's." He orders all of us.
Nelly straightens up and grabs Tessa's other hand. "Let's go."
I offered my hand to Apollo, who shook his head.
We followed Nelly and Tessa out the door, shutting it quietly behind us. Nelly and Tessa looked small, and quivery.
Apollo stood as tall as possible, fear dominant in his eyes. "He's not gonna die, right?"
With that petty question, my whole world sunk.
Nelly runs to Apollo, dropping to her knees in front of him, pulling him into a hug.
Tessa just glares at Apollo, though he was sobbing into her mother's shoulder, she seemed possessive, unable to take the hatred out of her eyes. "He's not gonna die, stop being a baby."
My mood went from passive to hostile in the blink of an eye. "Can't you be friendly for once? I know your growing process is exceedingly fast, even for your species, and your gonna be a granny soon, but can't you just be nice for one second?!"
She scoffs and flips her hair over her shoulder. "Well you already are a granny." She murmurs.
Apollo lightly shoves Nelly, extending his wings, batting Tessa, so she goes flying in the green plush-like grass.
Nelly gasps, running over to her child.
Apollo scowls at Tessa, though she couldn't see him.
"I've heard this Sarah girl is quite a slag, so I say we turn back and find Mylo." Apollo suggests.
I nod. "Good idea."
We start walking, until we get stopped by a woman, frantic and sobbing. "Th-the town!"
"What's in the town?" I ask, supporting the lady, as she looks as she's about to have a stroke.
"There's this big monster! Killing people! Eating kiosks! Tearing apart buildings!" She took a deep, sputter-y breath. "My family is in that town, and I hope to save them, if it's not too late."
I nod. "We'll take care of it, you just calm down."
Apollo pats her forearm as I sat her in the soft grass.
"Just be careful." The woman says, curling into a fetal position.
I nod and grab Apollo's arm, as we start the semi-long trek to the city.
Surprisingly, it didn't take too long to get there, but the so called monster, aka kirana, was the only thing you could see.
It was the height of a 3 story building, a concrete-like shell covering its body, a few parts of the shell had broken off, revealing a pink, fleshy, vein-y, skin under, which contrasted with the dark shell covering the rest of its body. Its face was long and pointed, much like an armadillo. It had paws, which had long spiny claws sticking out from all areas of the finger-like appendages. The armadillo kirana was screeching and growling, batting its arms and hands around, knocking the tops of large buildings off.
"So how do we kill these things?" Apollo asks.
I shrug. "Usually Mylo instructs me, but we could just go with the flow."
He looks up at me. "How do you do that?"
"Just fight, and hit whatever feels right." I say.
He nods, unfurling his wings and flying off.
The sight of a small human in flight is absolutely jaw-dropping. The way his body is poised with understand and need.
I take off running, nearing the kirana quite a bit slower. I wave my hands and arms like crazy, hoping for a small blue flame to ignite, but I was only throwing and tossing the bystanders, gently, of course. Serving them a simple transition away from the massive threat.
Apollo reaches the kirana sooner than I could, and was hitting it with his wings, even in air he seemed like a better fighter. Which is far from the truth. He was far from novice, quite an expertr actually, but as Mylo put it; he doesn't have the same little kick I do.
Once I actually reach the kirana, I put my hands up. I could feel maji running through ithem, but it wasn't doing anything, just slightly pushing it.
Apollo was making critical hits left and right, we both were okay where we were in the fighting, skill, but he always seems to pick up new aerial tricks.
Eventually the big kirana fell backwards, more help from Apollo than I, but my flame doesn't seem to have an on or off switch.
Apollo lands behind me, shaking the excess black kirana goop off his white feathers. "So back to Mylo?"
I smile at him. "Sure."
And we were off.
