chapter seven!

i won't say i'm in love!

JULIE WAS CURRENTLY TALKING TO LUKE, pretending to be on the phone so people wouldn't think she was talking to herself.  He was trying to get her to ditch school so they could work on a song.  Suddenly, Nick walked up to her.  "Hey, Julie! Hey! You ready for our big performance?"

"Oh, yeah. Yeah. We're gonna do great."

"I'm glad you're confident. Even after three classes, I still think I got worse. It's a good thing I got my secret weapon."

"Shut up. Um... Shut up!"

"No, seriously, Molina. I... I... I'm nothing without you." Molina, it reminded her of Andy calling her that. Actually, speaking of him, where was he? "Shh. No. No, you're... you're gonna do fine. See you in there?" Julie stated, giving him a playful push. "Yeah. I'll be the guy trying not to make us look stupid." As Nick left, Julie noticed Andy and Paula by their lockers. "Hey, Paula! Hey, Andy!"

"Hi, Julie! Are you ready to dance with you know who?" Paula asked, causing Julie to smile. "A little. I don't know, I'm a bit nervous."

"You're going to do great, don't worry." Paula reassured her as she closed her locker. "Andy? Are you okay?" The boy hadn't realized that he zoned out, nodding his head. "Yeah, I'm okay. I was just... thinking about my Calculus test."

"Oh, well, I'm sure you passed. You're pretty smart." Andy swore he felt his cheeks flush as he cleared his throat. "Thank you. Do you still need me to talk to Nick? Because I can do that for you later."

"I'll let you know if I do. But I've got to get going so I'll see you later, Ramirez?" Andy nodded his head, trying to hold back a smile. "Sure. See you later, Molina." Molina, it sounded like music to her ears when he said that. Julie started to walk away from him when she heard him say, "Wait!"

The curly haired girl turned around, "Yes, Andy?"

"You're gonna do great, Molina!" Julie smiled, "Thank you, Ramirez!" As she walked down the hallway, Andy sighed softly. He was really starting to fall for her.

JULIE WAS SITTING AT THE PIANO in the music room. "There you are. I've been looking all over for you." Flynn stated as she walked into the room. "Why'd you run out of dance class so fast?" Paula ran into the room, breathing heavily. "I... came... as... soon... as... you... texted... me, Flynn. What's up with Julie?"

"What happened to you?" Flynn asked, causing Paula to stand up properly. "I just had gym and it was not fun."

"That probably explains the stench." Flynn stated as Paula sat in a chair. "Sorry. I just needed some air. It was a little intense in there."

"Oh, I noticed. Dancing with a guy you've had a crush on for forever will do that to a girl."

"It's true. One time in sixth grade, I danced with a boy I had a crush on since second grade."

"What happened?"

"We eventually stopped dancing together. I saw a girl sitting all alone. I danced with her and thought she was really pretty. I then realized that day that I like both girls and guys."

"We support. I'm bisexual too, actually." Flynn stated, causing Paula to smile. "Really? That's a relief. But you were saying, Julie?"

"I support you too. Yeah, but the whole time we were dancing, I was thinking about Andy."

"Seriously? First off, called it. Second, I know you always want what you can't have, but I think Andy likes you."

"Andy? He doesn't like me like that! Plus, I don't know why I'm thinking about him all of a sudden. And now I think Nick likes me. Nick!"

"He totally does."

"Julie, you're wrong about Andy. I mean, have you seen the way he looks at you? He looks at you like you're his entire world."

"He does not. He's probably looking at someone else."

"Jules, I agree with Paula. That boy is in love with you! How do you not see it?"

"Me and him are just friends. We're always going to be that way." Long story short, Flynn uses Julie's phone to text Nick, asking him to come to her house to see her and her band perform. "But seriously Jules, Andy likes you."

"You two are wrong and I'm going to prove it." Julie walks out of the music room, causing Paula and Flynn to groan. "She's so blind. He likes her, she probably likes him but she doesn't see it. Why is this so hard?" Flynn stated as Paula placed her hand on her shoulder. "We just have to wait, Flynn. Plus, I've seen slow burns and the two love interests eventually get together."

"And how long does that take?"

"A few years."

"So we're going to have to wait that long?"

"Maybe? All we have to do is get Julie to see that Andy has feelings for her."

"How?"

"I'll think of something.  Anyways, I need to go change my clothes so I'll see you later, Flynn!"

"Bye, Paula!"

NIGHT HAD FALLEN AS JULIE AND HER BAND PERFORMED IN FRONT of her garage.  Flynn, Andy, and Paula cheered, proud of their friend.  As Julie sang, she couldn't help but look at Andy.  She had this weird feeling in her stomach when he made eye contact, waving at her.  She waved back at him, wearing a wide smile.

"Did you just see that?" Paula whispered.  "Yeah, I did.  Julie just smiled at him." Flynn whispered to her, causing Andy to stare at them.  "What are you two talking about?"

"Nothing!"  The boy just shrugged, going to back to watching Julie's band perform.  Once the song was over, the crowd cheered.  Julie walked over to her friends as she high - fived the audience.  "Hey, guys!"

"Julie! That was amazing!" Paula exclaimed.  "Yeah, Jules, it was great!"  Julie laughed, "Thank you, thank you.  I'll be here all night."  Andy looked at her, causing Julie to smile.  "You're staring again."

"You stare at me too, Molina."

"Really? I stare at you?" Flynn and Paula smirked, deciding to leave them alone.  "We're gonna head inside.  We'll see you guys soon!"  Once they left, the two looked at each other.  "But your performance was really good.  You look great by the way."

"Thanks.  Also, I think this song is gonna be a hit! Hopefully, me and the band get an agent soon!"

"That's awesome, Molina!"  Julie hugged him, causing the boy to spin her around.  Andy smiled, causing Julie's mouth to open.  The boy had never smiled before and it was shocking to her.  "What?"

"You're smiling.  You just smiled at me."

"I guess I am."

"You have a nice smile.  You should wear it more often."  Julie felt her cheeks flush as she looked at him, "Sorry.  I shouldn't have-"

"Molina, it's fine.  I guess I could smile every once in a while.  Oh my gosh, that rhymed and I hate it."

"It was kind of funny, actually."  Andy wore a teasing smile, "You think I'm funny?"

"Yes, you're funny, Ramirez.  You have a good sense of humor."

"Well, I try.  It's hard when you're this sarcastic."

"It must be hard."  Andy gasped, "Were you being sarcastic just now?"

"Yes, yes I was.  But my dad brought pizza so you can eat some if you want."

"Pizza sounds good.  I can eat."  The two realized that they were still holding each other, causing them to let go.  "Sorry."

"It's fine."  As the two walked towards the house, Julie thought about what Paula and Flynn were talking about.  Maybe she was starting to have feelings for Andy.

Julie getting Deja Vu when Nick called her Molina just like when Andy calls her that 🤭 also her thinking of Andy instead when she was dancing with Nick???
