Chapter 7

A/N: Sorry this is so short.. And for the late update.. And.. OKAY I'M SORRY!! Alright, alright, here's the chapter.. :)

"So how are we going to get to California?" Sophie asked.

Dex gave her a puzzled look. "California? Why do we have to go to California?"

Sophie showed him the book. "It says here that the author lives in California... So Cal to be exact." She pointed to the author bio on the side flap.

Keefe squinted at the bio. "Why does it say the books are for ages 8-12? Wasn't that girl, like, 16?"

Sophie shrugged. "I don't know. Maybe the fans range in age. But the important thing is that we have to get to California. But, how?"

"You can teleport," Biana pointed out.

Sophie shook her head. "There's not exactly a cliff to jump off of here."

"Actually there is," Fitz pointed to a brochure he had picked up. "There's a mountainside hike here and we can jump off the cliff. It isn't that far."

Taking Fitz's idea, the five elves walked to the mountainside and joined hands.

"Ready?" Sophie asked. Soon after their nods, they took the first jump.

The city where the author lived wasn't the biggest city, like LA, but it wasn't small either. Luckily, Dex managed to find the author's address on a computer in the local library. Now, they just had to find out how to get to the address.

"We can hail a cab," Sophie suggested.

"What's a cab?" asked Biana. Sophie explained it to them, and they agreed it was the best idea. Soon, a cab passed and the five elves got in.

"Where to?" asked the cab driver with greasy black hair and a scruffy beard.

Sophie told him the address and he sped towards the house. When they reached, Sophie was surprised. It wasn't small, but it definitely was smaller than her house. Taking a deep breath, she rang the doorbell. The next five seconds of waiting felt like eternity until a young woman opened the door. She had straight blond hair that reached her shoulders and was wearing a red shirt and jeans. She looked uncannily like an older version of Sophie.

"Hi... How can I help you?" She asked. Then, she noticed what they looked like and sucked in a sharp breath. "You're... You're.. Oh my gods. Um, please come inside." She held the door open and the five elves walked in.

The first thing Sophie noticed were the numerous cats. There were at least ten. But, as they winded into the living room, she realized they had bigger problems.

The woman sat down in a red plush couch and gestured for everyone else to do the same. Then she began talking. "So... Let's start off with introductions, shall we? I'm Shannon Messenger."

Sophie took a deep breath, deciding in that moment that she would tell Mrs. Messenger their real names. "I'm Sophie Foster. These are my friends Biana Vacker, Fitz Vacker, Keefe Sencen, and Dex Dizznee."

There was a moment of silence until Mrs. Messenger took a shaky breath.

"You guys are real," she started. "Are you real?"

Fitz looked at his hands, which were very much solid. "I think so..."

Mrs. Messenger laughed. "It's just... When I wrote the book, I didn't think you were real. I thought they were just dreams, but apparently they weren't. It happened so long ago..."

Biana tilted her head sideways. "What are you talking about? What happened so long ago?"

Mrs. Messenger gave them a sad smile. "Let's start with the simple fact that, yes, I am an elf. But, much like Councillor Terik, I have a unique power that no other elves have. I am a Seer."

Fitz gasped. "I've heard of those. We learned about them in Elvin History. They are connected to one person and can see their whole life, and their future, in dreams. There used to be hundreds, but they were wiped out as they were considered evil. Now there is only one... You."

"Me," Mrs. Messenger agreed. "And the person I was connected to was Sophie. The connection was established since she was born... For one reason."

A million thoughts ran through Sophie's head... But only one prevailed, and Mrs. Messenger confirmed it.

"I am her biological mother."
