WHEN THE SUN GOES DOWN
≪•◦ CHAPTER SIX | I SAW IT ◦•≫
••●••
It had been a week since Edward Cullen had been at school, and strangely enough, it began to worry Colby. Not as much as Bella, but she was still concerned nonetheless. "You don't even know the guy and you're worried about him? Colby Salvatore worried? Are you feeling okay?" Jaxson asked his older sister as he, Talia, and Chloe rode with her to school.
"I'm fine, and what's wrong with me being worried?" Colby asked, keeping her eyes on the road ahead of her.
"It's weird for you to be worried about anyone except yourself or our family," Chloe admitted from the backseat.
"Emmett told me he went out of town for family stuff. Maybe something bad actually happened, and that's why he's been gone so long," Colby said as she pulled into the school parking lot.
The lot was somewhat full, as full as the school would get with the small population. The only spot Colby found, it being the first one she saw, just so happened to be beside one of the Cullens' cars, more specifically the Jeep. Grace's truck was parked a few cars down.
"You've been talking about this Emmett guy a lot," Talia pointed out.
"And the Cullens in general," Jaxson added.
"No, I haven't. I just happened to get that information from Emmett, and I do have classes with most of them," Colby defended as she parked her car and got out.
"How do you have a class with Jasper? He's a junior. Which makes me surprised you don't have a class with Alice too. Yet you don't have a class with Edward, and he's also a junior. It really only makes sense that you have classes with Rosalie and Emmett, and the fact you and Emmett are lab partners just means it's fate," Chloe ranted.
Colby rolled her eyes. Yes, she knew Jasper and Alice were juniors, and yes, she had classes with Jasper and not Alice. But for the record, Art was a mixed-grade class, and Jasper was extremely good in History. Colby just so happened to be great at History and Anatomy, her desire to be a doctor helping with her knowledge in sciences.
"Are you done?" Colby asked as they walked into the school, immediately spotting Grace by Colby's locker.
"Yeah, yeah," Chloe said as the siblings made their way to Grace. Colby was then stopped by a happy, high-pitched voice.
"Hi! You must be Colby Salvatore!" the girl said, blocking Colby's way towards her older sister and younger siblings, who had reached Grace before noticing Colby's absence.
"Huh? Oh yeah, that's me. Alice, right?" Colby asked, smiling down at the girl she towered over.
Alice smiled brightly at the tall Salvatore girl. "Yup, that's me! I'm so glad I finally get to meet you. I already know we're going to be the best of friends!" Alice said.
Colby smiled, having already formed a liking to the small Cullen girl. "It was an absolute pleasure to meet you too, Alice, but I need to get back to my siblings. Don't be a stranger," Colby said sweetly after noticing her siblings impatiently waiting for her by her locker.
"Goodbye, Colby!" Alice called out happily as she walked away gracefully and found Jasper, who glanced at the Salvatores. Colby sent the blonde a soft smile, which he returned with a curt nod and small smile as he placed his arm around Alice and the two disappeared.
"Not trying to be bitter, but I want the Colby that hated everyone and only talked to us back," Grace said with an annoyed sigh.
"You trying not to be bitter made you seem very bitter and jealous. This is a permanent move, and I'm going to make it worth it by, oh, I don't know, making friends," Colby stated. She was never great at making friends, and with the knowledge of always moving on her mind, she gave whoever tried to talk to her the cold shoulder.
Colby was loving Forks, and making friends made it even better. "Okay, whatever, I need to get to class," Grace said, leaving her younger siblings.
"What's up with her?" Colby asked with a huff, throwing her books in her locker.
"I don't know, but we gotta go too," the twins said simultaneously. Colby was about to respond, but the twins were already halfway down the hall before she got the chance.
"Yup, love you guys too, see you later," Colby said grumpily before looking at Talia. "You gotta go too, huh?"
Talia hugged her older sister. "Yes, but I love you!" Talia called out and ran off before Colby could utter a word.
"Siblings can be the worst sometimes," a slightly but barely familiar voice caught Colby off guard, startling her and causing her to drop her spell book, but it was quickly caught by a pair of pale hands.
"I didn't mean to scare you." Colby looked up to see none other than Edward and Emmett Cullen, with Emmett being the one who caught her book.
"What? Me scared? Of course not. You two are like ninjas, all quiet and stuff. You caught me off guard," Colby said, smiling at Emmett as he handed her the spellbook, which she quickly put away, making a mental note to stop bringing it to school.
"That's why you jumped," Emmett said, followed by booming laughter that caught other students' attention.
"Oh, whatever. But hey, glad you're finally back, Edward. Everything okay?" Colby said, rolling her eyes at Emmett before smiling kindly up at Edward.
"Yeah. Sorry about how I acted last week," Edward said awkwardly and forcefully.
Colby furrowed her brows. "I appreciate the apology, but I'm not the one you need to apologize to," Colby said honestly. Edward nodded. Colby noticed his stiff state, no doubt Emmett had forced him to come talk to her.
"Want me to walk you to class?" Emmett asked, hoping to get rid of the awkward tension.
Colby smiled and nodded. "Find Bella. I'll see you around, okay?" Colby said to Edward, patting his cold shoulder. Edward nodded before quickly walking away.
The two walked silently towards the gym. "So, how're you liking Forks?" Emmett said, breaking the silence, something Colby appreciated.
"It's great, actually. I've always been a fan of the cold and rain. I mean, I do miss Maryland, but Forks seems to feel a lot more like home. Probably because it's a permanent move for once," Colby ranted as they leaned up against a wall.
Emmett smiled at her, not responding. "What?" Colby asked. His eyes seemed to snap back into reality; they weren't the golden color they were the day before, which confused the Salvatore girl. "Do your eyes change color, or are you wearing colored contacts?" Colby blurted out.
Emmett chuckled nervously. "I gotta go. See you later, Colb," Emmett said as he left the girl just before the bell rang.
Colby laughed and rolled her eyes before entering the gym for class.

The day went by as usual. Colby went through the motions, spending the school day in her own little world. She only really spoke to Bella, Jess, Angela, Emmett, Jasper, and somewhat to Edward. Rosalie wasn't very social except for the times she'd compliment Colby's drawings.
Colby now found herself beside her car with her siblings. "You really don't think a senior girl would go for me? I mean, come on, look at me!" Jax exclaimed. Colby, Talia, Chloe, and Grace all rolled their eyes.
"Yeah, and you do realize you're a child to them, right?" Grace asked with an amused smirk.
"Child!? I'm 16, practically a man," Jaxson said.
"One chest hair doesn't make you a man," Chloe told her twin brother.
Colby was about to jump in until her vision clouded and she gasped, her eyes turning an emerald green.
Ice. The roads were slippery from the cold weather and rain.
Tyler's van. Tyler was losing control of his van due to the ice; it was screeching across the pavement. He couldn't stop it.
Bella's truck. Burnt orange and parked across the parking lot away from the Salvatore siblings. It was the only vehicle parked in that area due to other students already leaving.
Bella. She was listening to music beside her truck, giving herself a break before her drive home. Her truck and herself were what Tyler's van was heading for, full force.
Crash. Bella hadn't moved in time. Tyler's van crashed into her truck.
"Colby, Colby, come back!" Grace said worriedly as Colby stumbled, only gaining the attention of the Cullens beside them. Colby gasped again, coming out of the vision and immediately grabbing hold of Grace's arm.
"What did you see?" Grace asked worriedly as she held up Colby's weight.
"Bella," was all she muttered before breaking away from her older sister and beginning to run towards Bella and her truck as a loud screeching noise was heard.
Ice, Tyler's van, Bella's truck, Bella, Crash. The thought of the vision replayed in Colby's head. She forced her way through her siblings, nearly getting hit by a car herself if it wasn't for a strong hand grabbing hers and pulling her back, straight into Emmett's chest.
"You nearly got hit, Colby. Calm down, what's wrong?" Emmett asked, extreme worry in his voice as he continued to hold the girl as she turned in his arms, facing Bella's truck.
"Bella, it's Bella!" Colby screamed as the van got closer to Bella's truck. Grace ran over to Emmett and Colby, taking Colby in her arms. Emmett hesitated when letting her go but did so nonetheless.
The van was getting closer to Bella's truck, and Colby continued to try and break free from Grace's hold. The Cullens watched Colby, not knowing what to do. Colby made eye contact with Edward, with pleading eyes, she hadn't had a clue as to why but the thought of him saving her rushed through her mind as tears continued to run down her cheeks. Both Grace and Colby looked at Edward as he suddenly disappeared.
In that moment, the two older Salvatore sisters froze, their heads snapping towards Bella's truck and Tyler's van once a crash was heard. Colby saw students crowding the scene, some shouting, others on their phones, no doubt calling 911. Colby was terrified.
"Bella!" Colby screamed, crying. Grace held her closer, continuously glancing at the Cullens with uneasy looks.
"Colby, Colby, it's okay, it's okay," Grace tried soothing her younger sister.
"I saw it, I saw it before it happened. I could've gotten there," Colby said, breathing heavily. Colby and Grace looked back at the scene, seeing Edward standing up, unscathed, as well as Bella.
Once Edward ran off, Grace let go of Colby, who looked at her sister confused as the realization on Grace's face caused Colby to speak up. "What is it, Grace?" Grace glanced at the Cullens, who were sparing glances their way as they unlocked their cars, quickly getting in a driving off.
"They're vampires."
