Chapter 2: Corrupted Code

Brian/Herobrine's POV

Since I was captured by the so-called 'Jeb' and almost died, I was forced to stay in bed for... a week now.

And Notch says I can't leave my bed until he makes sure I'm alright.

"You almost died." He says, eyes holding the tiniest bit of guilt in them. "I want to make sure you're all right."

And Steve told me what happened after I fainted.

As Jeb ran away, Notch collapsed on top of Brian's unconscious body.

"Jeb..." He muttered.

I looked at him worriedly.

"Notch, are you ok?" I asked. "You look..." I didn't finish the sentence.

Neither Alex nor me looks much better than Notch did, I noted.

"I'm alright, Steve." Notch sat up next to Brian's body. "It's just... Jeb."

"You mean the guy who killed Brian?" Alex asked. She was fuming.

"Yeah." Notch sighed. "Him and I have a long history."

"Let's go back to our house first." I said. "We have to bring Brian anyways." I paused, bending down to look at Brian.

His eyes were open and the clear blue irises I came to like were glassy. My dear brother, dead.

He sacrificed himself to save us.

Sacrificed.
Sacrificed.
Sacrificed.

The word kept circling around my mind.

Sacrificed.
Sacrificed.

It was my fault.

I wanted to go fishing.

It was me who asked Notch if we could go fishing.

If we didn't go, none of this would happen.

I bowed my head. "He was a hero." I spoke softly to Notch.

Notch's devastated eyes met mine.

"Hero..." He muttered. Then a light cane into his eyes. The kind of light that came when he had an idea.

He whipped out his computer and started tying some code.

I looked over his shoulder. He was changing a code of someone named... Herobrine?

Notch junped up and started pacing around.

I looked at the computer. The code was red.

Then I saw a red light. Brian was glowing a red light, the colour of the light the same as the red code.

"Notch?" I asked nervously.

Notch's eyes darted from the computer to Brian, his eyes full of guilt.

I looked at Brian and I gasped.

His whole body was circled by red code and a eerie red light covered him.

Alex snapped her head around when she heard me gasp.

She stared at Notch.

"Just what have you done now?" She asked.

Apparently, Notch messed with my code a bit, changing my name to Herobrine as he said I was a hero by sacrificing myself to save others.

Something went wrong and my code turned red.

According to Notch...

I am now a glitch.

All ecause Notch messed with my code and accidentally corrupted it for Minecraft's sake.

Just to say, I'm not exactly happy with Notch right now.

Like, a lot.

Hey, if you have anything against that, think again.

I just got kidnapped by Jeb, who I still don't know who that is, and almost died.

To make matters worse, my brother changed my code to make my name Herobrine.

And your brother, who's supposed to be good at editing and creating code, messed a simple name changing up!

Now get what I mean?

How can things get any worse?

Just then, Notch came in my room.

I turned so my back faced him.

"Brian." Notch said. "I need to talk to you."

I slowly faced him.

"What?" I asked impatiently. Notch flinched at my tone.

"I want... to talk to you about Jeb." Notch shrank under my harsh gaze. "He... he was my... my best friend."

Apparently things did get worse.

This just adds to my 'things that are worse than what they seem' list.

"Get out." I whispered.

Notch's eyes held shame. "I'm sorry. I should have told you earlier."

I growled at him and he left hastily.

I sighed.

Why must life be so difficult? I thought. Can't I have a normal life like everyone else? I shook my head. Apparently not, since I am the brother of the supposed god of Minecraftia.

My vision rimmed blue as I felt a strange sensation.

I closed my eyes and opened them.

I was in the cave our family goes mining.

Did I teleport?

I ran deeper into the cave and sat down in the deeper levels.

I decided to try teleporting again.

I closed my eyes and concentrated.

This time, I felt a tingly feeling as I materialised in front of the cave system.

"Brian!" I heard Alex shout.

I turned around and saw my siblings running towards me.

I panicked and ran inside the cave.

I jumped over rocks, swam down underground rivers and avoided lava patches.

At last, I lost them and found myself in a cave.

If I had teleporting powers, maybe I have other powers too!

The thought popped up in my mind.

I decided to test out the theory.

I concentrated on fire and heat, and soon felt a burst of energy in the air around me.

Fire danced on my fingers and when I waved my hand, cool water doused me and the flames.

I praticed turning invisible and made myself fly.

I raised my hands and found myself on a small stone platform.

I clenched my fists and different ores fell from the wall and onto the ground.

When I pressed my hand on the walls, I felt the holes from where the ores were from. I placed them back in their respective places again.

Then I felt a presence.

Steve was down in the caves, in a place quite near me.

I panicked and managed to turn invisible just as Steve mined down to where to was.

"Wha-" He started, but I waved my hands and obsidian rised up around him and trapped him.

"What is a random column doing here?" He asked. "I swear to Notch this wasn't here before."

I re-appeared and walked towards him, changing my appearance to Jeb.

"Hello Steve." I chuckled.

"Jeb?" Steve asked nervously.

I snapped my fingers and created a doll that looked like me, floating in mid-air.

"Yes, me." I calmly stated, enjoying the look on Steve's face. You didn't get to prank your brother for so long.

"Notch!" Steve shouted. "Jeb is here!"

Let him shout. I grinned. I get to prank Notch.

I made the obsidian tower taller to hide me from Steve's gaze, and changed back to my original appearance.

I stumbled. I didn't realize that I was this tired.

I mustered all my energy and tried to teleport myself out of the cave.

Keyword: tried to.

I ended up a few feet next to the obsidian pillar and collapsed.

I heard footsteps and was still trying to figure out what was going to happen when Notch came into the cave.

I lifted myself from the wall and sat on a rock.

"Notch?" I whispered.

"Steve!" Notch shouted. He didn't seem to notice me.

"Brian is here!" Steve shouted from inside the pillar.

Notch spun around and saw me seated on the rock, one hand on the rock wall.

"Herobrine!" He shouted. "Where did you go?" He asked while running towards me.

I flinched when I heard the name Herobrine. I was Brian.

"Sorry Brian." Notch noticed my discomfort. "You'll always be Brian to me. The name just slipped out of my mouth."

I smiled uncertainly. "Sure."

Notch handed me a diamond pickaxe and I tried to stand.

I fell back down almost immediately and Notch took back the pickaxe.

I snatched the pickaxe back and stood up again.

I wobbled to the obsidian and slowly mined it.

Notch came over and help mined the same block.

After a while, I realized the cracks were appearing and disappearing.

"Notch?" I asked.

He looked at the obsidian and instantly knew what happened.

"Silly me." He chuckled. "I'll mine the top block, and you mine the lower one, ok?" I nodded.

He went and mined the block on top of the block I was mining.

In less than a minute, we got Steve out of the obsidian tower.

"Why don't we mine the rest of the obsidian?" I asked Notch. "We could use it to reinforce our house."

Notch nodded.

He handed Steve another pickaxe and we started mining.

"Where is Alex?" I asked.

"Cooking dinner." Notch replied.

Suddenly, my legs buckled and I fell on the ground.

"You are in no shape to mine right now." Notch noted.

"I can still mine!" I protested.

Notch took the pickaxe from me and took me to the rock I was on and patted my back.

"You need rest." He says, worry showing in his gaze.

I sighed and sat down as I watched the two slowly mine the obsidian.

I listened to my brothers chatting while they did the job of mining the obsidian.

"Was Jeb really here?" Notch asked.

Steve nodded. "The dude trapped me in a obsidian cage." He glanced at me. "The dude escaped when he heard you coming. He captured Brian but left him here when he left."

Notch looked at me. "That's the second tine you're captured."

I nodded weakly.

Steve laughed quietly and mined a block of obsidian.

Notch punched Steve. "Don't laugh. It's not funny."

I fake-pouted. "Hey!"

Notch cracked a grin. He mined a block of obsidian and punched Steve again.

"Why did you punch me?" Steve shouted. "I did nothing."

"Nothing, I wanted something to hit."

I chuckled at the scene.

Notch and Steve grew quiet and began mining the obsidian again.

Soon they mined all the obsidian and they helped me out of the cave and Notch grounded me in my bed yet again.

"I told you, you need to rest." He keeps saying while he gives me yet another healing potion.
