Chapter 32
"Let's see, Ms Brooklyn Tomlinson?" The doctor eyed me and I gave a short nod. "So according to your papers, you fainted earlier?"
"I guess so, yeah." I shrugged, not entirely sure what had happened earlier. One second I was remembering a memory and the next I was opening my eyes to a frightened Niall. The complete fear in his eyes was what got to me.
"Your eyesight is fine, no headaches, no extra fatigue?" At each question I shook my head and he checked them off the clipboard he was holding. "And this is the first time you've fainted?"
"Yes."
"It looks like the fainting spell was due to the overwhelming memory," he hummed out as he inspected the sheet I had filled out before he came in.
"It wasn't that large of a memory though, it was short and sweet. Why would that cause me to faint?" I questioned, shifting in my seat just a bit.
Doctor Nelson scratched at his chin. "Your body wasn't ready for the memory. The times before, you were kind of expecting it, I assume. This time your body was already weak, so the memory took a toll on you. Have you been stressed or fatigued lately?"
"Pretty stressed," I laughed quietly, "It's been a difficult few months."
"I understand that. Now, if this happens again, I suggest laying down ad placing a cold cloth on your forehead. Try to stay stress-free," Doctor Nelson suggested, before signing his name and handing me a slip of paper. "Any other questions?"
I hesitated, my fingers playing along the edges of the paper. I was hesitant to voice my worries, but maybe he would have advice. "Do you think it's possible to get my memory back? It's coming back in snippets, but I've hardly remembered four days out of the last three years.. Do you think it's hopeless?"
"I don't know the specifics of your car crash or the impact that was done on your head, but I can tell you that I've had a few patients before that have went through similar stories. Half of them remembered the entire gap within the first six months. But I will warn you now, the other half have bits and pieces come back but they still haven't fully recovered. If you go pass six months without a complete recovery, you might never get the full three years back. You could be remembering, like you have been, for the rest of your life," he warned.
I nodded, clearing my throat in an attempt to keep tears from flooding my eyes. "Thank you."
"No problem, Brooklyn. If you have no further questions, I'll let you get on with your day."
"I'm good, have a nice day." I smiled politely before seeing myself out the door. Louis was in the waiting room, in the corner, his head buried in a book. It was slightly amusing at how hard he was trying to not be noticed. He looked up just as I exited.
"Brook! What happened, are you okay?" Louis rushed to me, looking at me closely as if tell tales for disaster.
"I'm fine. Just got overwhelmed. I'm completely healthy," I put on my best, bright smile to convince him that everything was perfect. He let out a sigh of relief and hugged me into his chest.
"Thank God," he murmured against my head. He let me go and nodded his head towards the exit. "You ready to go, then?"
"Yeah, I'm ready to go."
~*~*~Next Day~*~*~
"Laptop and charger?" I read from the list I had typed out earlier for Niall and Louis. They were both standing by their bags, peering into the depths.
"Yep," they responded simultaneously.
"Phone, phone charger, plus back-up phone?"
"Yes."
"Then Summer and Caroline have most of your clothes, but you have five outfits each?" I checked, as I marked off each box.
"Indeed," Niall responded while Louis just nodded.
"Books?" I swallowed the laugh that was welling up inside me as I took in their face. Louis' was completely blank while Niall's was one of fear. "I'm bringing The Fault in Our Stars and An Abundance of Katherines and you are both going to finish them before this tour is over."
"But.. But.." They both stuttered.
"I finished each one in a week, tops. You can read them over the course of three months. Moving on.." I trailed off, scrolling down my list, mentally ticking off the things I knew they had.
"We have everything, Brook. Trust us, we've done this before." Louis rolled his eyes at me.
"Fine, but if you forget something, don't go blaming me." I stuck my tongue out in response, letting my list fall on top of his stuff.
"Thank you. Now I am going to go and spend the last few hours I have with my girlfriend, I'll let you know when the van gets here." Louis grinned and ruffled my hair before whistling his way out of the room.
"Hm, we have a few hours. What do you wanna do?" I asked Niall as I zipped up my suitcase for hopefully the last time.
"Doesn't matter, as long as I get to spend time with you." He replied way to cheerily.
"Excuse me, no bs is allowed. What do you want to do?" I smirked.
"Let's go shopping," he suggested after a small silence.
"Oh God, my boyfriend likes to shop. Plus he has the money to shop. I must be the luckiest girl in the world." I teased as I grabbed his hand and pulled him out of the flat.
~*~*~
We were rushed out of the van and past the multiple groups of paparazzi snapping continuous pictures of us. Well, pictures of them. I was mostly just the sister that was tagging along. Niall was ahead of me with the other boys while a bodyguard, Michael, was right behind me. We hurried inside the back exit of the airport, getting lead to the VIP waiting area.
"Your plane will be here momentarily," an older lady dressed in the airport's security uniforms informed us. "If you have any guests who are not going, please say your goodbyes now. Our security will lead them to the exit."
"Thank you," Liam spoke up sending the woman a smile. Lily and Juliet, the only two in the room who weren't going along, started their goodbyes. Juliet came up to me first.
"I'm gonna miss you, girly. You have fun with them and I expect a Skype call every other day, alright?" She hugged me tightly and I almost felt the circulation leave my body, but I clung to the one good girl friend I had managed to make in the last four months.
Juliet gave me a wink and moved on to Liam who was next to me. I let my eyes scan the room, landing on miss blue eyed blonde bombshell.
I bit my lip as Lilly cried out goodbyes to the boys, enveloping them each in an over affectionate hug.
"We should definitely all hang out soon. Hopefully I'll be able to get off work to come visit the tour," Lilly swished her blonde hair out of her face as she gave a bright smile.
"You know you're welcome anytime," Josh said with an identical smile. Lilly laughed and thanked him before going over to Niall.
I gritted my teeth as Lilly wrapped her arms around my boyfriend. I saw her whisper something in his ear and a laugh left his lips. My stomach churned and I had to keep myself from pouncing on her and pulling all her hair out.
After Niall, Lilly practically flung herself at Josh. He chuckled as he squeezed her tight. That's what made me realize I truly wasn't jealous of Lilly, because the sight of Josh's smile spread across his face as he hugged her, it was of pure joy. And it made me happy. There was just something about Lilly that I hated. I felt like she was going to break Josh's heart.
"Bye, my idiot." A familiar Glasgow accent drew my eyes away from Lilly and Josh, and to Juliet and Louis. The two were looking at each other sadly, knowing it'd be a month until Juliet would fly out to visit. The love in Juliet's voice was obvious as they hugged, clinging to each other for at least a minute.
I decided that if Juliet and Louis ever broke up, I'd personally beat Louis up for missing out on the most incredible girl in the world.
"The jet is here," Paul announced. Juliet and Lilly said another round of goodbyes before heading out with an airport security guy.
I rushed after the boys, doing my best to avoid Josh. That didn't work too well. "Brook, hold up! What's up?"
"I'm fine," I responded curtly, dodging forward to wrap my arms around Niall and keep away from Josh.
"You okay, babe?" Niall asked with a laugh, his hand going to rest her hand on my waist.
"Yeah, definitely." I replied with a smile, giving one last look behind to see Josh looking confused.
Maybe I shouldn't have been quite so rude, but I needed less stress my life. And most of that stress came from Josh.
