Hands on bars
Fingers tightly wrapped
I pull with all my strength
My screams loud
Summoning every ounce of energy
There is no give
It stands tall
Solid
Impenetrable

I reach for the lock
But I have nothing
There is no way
For it to open
The chains
Reinforced
Wrapped
Around and
Around and
Around
Locked again

I stare through the bars
Into the darkness
I know you are there

I know you can see me

Stay hidden
You are a coward

I know you will take me
When I least expect

I turn and walk
The long corridor that is time
Satisfied
For now
That you are secure
That you cannot escape
That you will remain
In the
Darkness

I am satisfied
That it is not yet my time

I know no chains can hold you
No bars can retain you

But for now you are my prisoner

I hope your sentence is long
For I want my life to be
