Until then, please enjoy Macau try to save his brother-in-law

Part 5 ✨

---------------------------

Vegas snorts.

"He's already in."

Macau stares at him shocked. Was that why the whole house is on alert? The main family really fell for it, and as usual, the minor family was the first suspect not that they aren't this time.

He laughs in settled understanding.

But, not knowing anything other than Tawan being used to infiltrate the main house, still irks him. He probably shouldn't bother to ask, but he does anyway. Vegas only reassures him that the plan has already been set in motion, that It's been three days, and that soon everything will be over.

Macau is slightly annoyed for thinking he'd actually get an answer and it shows on his face. Vegas only laughs before he pets his brother's head and kisses him. Macau knows he's belittling him. It's like all those times when they were younger when Vegas used to feel bad for winning some kind of game against Macau.

Macau wishes he could just demand to be put in the loop, for once.

Vegas is quick to change the topic, though. He asks Macau if he'd like to go make merits with him in the temple after lunch. He throws in a couple of memories of all the times he's caught Macau dozing off at the sermons. It's enough to lighten the mood, and Macau figures he probably should. Vegas might be very careful, but he's still going to need all the prayers he can get if he's planning on ending everything soon.

They get to the temple, but while they walk Macau notices Vegas glancing over his shoulder every few minutes. Vegas then informs him that they're being followed. He takes a look for himself and laughs.

It's Pete.

He's hiding behind the pillar.

Macau thinks that the last time should have at least taught Pete that he needs to up his trailing game. Clearly, some people are just slow.

Vegas and Macau share a look, before Vegas nods at him.

Macau has to stop himself from bursting out in laughter when Pete jumps three feet in the air after he touches him. Pete stutters and jumbles his words, but Macau craftily steers the conversation for them. He catches Vegas' smirk and understands immediately. They're going to let the main family know they can't catch them lacking.

It's the easiest thing for them, dragging Pete along. There's this look in his brother's eyes and he knows he's going to make a lasting impression somehow. Vegas always does.

He lets his brother go at it, and decides it's not worth his time watching. Maybe he should use this time to pray for his sanity to come back. He doesn't last more than four minutes before he feels his eyes get heavy.

He meets the reason his sanity is wilting away, in his dreams.

.

.

Come evening, and there's an unsettling feeling turning in his stomach.

He doesn't know why he feels uneasy, but guesses it's cause he's nervous for his brother. He begs asks what the plan for tomorrow is, fingers nervously moving against each other. Vegas notices and pities him. He tells him about how they're planning on luring Kinn out to finally get him out of the picture. But Macau's heart nearly stops when hears Porsche's name, he unconsciously gasps and Vegas halts.

There's one face that flashes in his mind, it's the one from his recent nightmares dreams. Macau must look terrified for Vegas to grab his hand.

"P' y-you can't"

It's all stutters as he pulls his hand away and he starts pacing the room. he's biting at his fingertips now and muttering gibberish. Vegas tries to calm him, bringing him to sit on the bed. but Vegas' concern falls on deaf ears as Macau repeats himself again and again.

Vegas grabs his arm once again and ushers him back to the bed. It's not unusual for Macau to guilt Vegas into doing anything, Vegas knows his tactics and usually indulges him. But this time is different and Vegas can't figure out why. Macau isn't listening to him when he tries to reassure him that he'll be really careful and will come back to him, like he always does.

Macau just shakes his head as he keeps repeating that Vegas can't hurt use Porsche. Vegas is confused and tells him that that's what he's been doing till now. Using Porsche to get to Kinn.

"Did you think I actually liked Porsche?"

Vegas laughs out, and for the first time in his life, Macau wants to punch his brother. He knows, he fucking knows his brother doesn't like Porsche. He knows his brother doesn't like anyone. he never fucking ever has. Did Vegas really think he was stupid? Macau knew Vegas through and through, just like Vegas did him. And yet, he's so annoyed at his brother's reply.

Vegas picks up on his brother's irritation, he straightens as his eyes focus on Macau. He uses a more stern tone this time when he asks Macau what his problem actually is.

It's a tell that Vegas isn't going to take any lies now, so Macau swiftly backs down. Only, this time his brother isn't letting him walk away without a clear answer.

Macau isn't quick enough, he fumbles with his words trying to make it all make sense and Vegas' eyes shift to his nervous feet. He's called out almost instantly. He shuts his eyes, his own internal conflict running havoc in his brain.

Vegas asks once more, like he always does. But before Macau can give in, Vegas gets a call. He hesitates, but eventually sighs as he picks up the call. He motions for Macau to wait for him to finish and the boy does.

It's hard not to be curious, but Vegas' sudden change in demeanor grabs Macau's attention. Vegas sounds slightly surprised within the conversation before he asks the person on the other end if they were sure. He cuts the call a few seconds later, only to rush out the door.

Macau is right behind him, asking him where he's going. But he stops immediately when he hears there's been a change in plans and that he was now going to get Porsche.

Vegas doesn't get to see the panic that floods Macau's face.
