Chapter Twentyone
Levi sat at the table with everyone else, listening to the arguing, speculating, and talking in general. Everyone was upset about the days events, including Levi. It was hoped that everything would go well, but that dream was obviously to much to ask for.
"Everyone!", Kristof yelled, bringing his fist down on the table to get everyone's attention. "We can't solve any problems, until we understand what we're up against. Any ideas of what these monsters are?"
One of the men in the back spoke up. "Perhaps they're ethereals? The description included strong armor, along with energy inside. Sounds like angels to me."
Frederick coughed, getting everyone's attention. "I think our... Problem, is a lot bigger than a group of angry angels. If it was angels, they would have flown over the wall, or made a portal into the city, not to mention that they would have tried to find a peaceful means of communication. No, these aren't ethereals."
"You seem to have an idea though," Kristof said. "So please, speak your mind."
Frederick starred around for a few second, and then took a breath. "I've done some research and... I think we may be in the path of some Old World Gods... Ancient beings of immense power, that supposedly witnessed the birth of the universe. Even here, it has been shown that they have the ability to make matter from nothing. They can even change themselves. If an Old World God needs a sword, they can just make a sword appear in their hand. If they need to fly, they can create a pair of wings on their backs, and fly to new continents to live on. If they get tired of flying, they can create ships they can travel in. If they wish to not cause trouble... immediately, they can shapeshift into the locals. We're talking about beings that can change the world around them in a split second. The strange thing is... They haven't been awake for thousands, maybe even millions of years. If they're awake now, they have important reasons. This can only mean trouble."
"Are they trying to kill us?", someone asked.
"Maybe," Frederick said. "It seems that they believe they are better than all other beings in all ways. If any of the legends are true, they've caused universal... Problems, before."
"If they want us dead, why don't they just vaporize us all right now?"
"The Old World Gods can instantly create matter, not destroy it. They must have a means of killing all at once though."
At that, everyone went silent, and slowly went their separate ways. Levi decided to go outside the wall to see if there was anything interesting. The night was cool, which irritated him a little, and the shade the trees made didn't help.
As he walked, he listened to the night sounds. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary, but he started getting the feeling he was being watched. Jumping into a tree, he went from branch to branch, until he looked out into a small field. He kept his face calm when he saw hundreds of giant foot steps in the grass, and heard the noise of moving leaves somewhere in the distance.
Levi saw a large humanoid figure, a metal cover on its face shining in the moonlight. The Golem snuck up to it, making sure to not make a sound. The giant didn't seem to know he was there, so Levi got closer. It was looking up into the night, the only movement it made was its head turning just a little, every second.
All of the sudden, the monster turned it's head, and strided off into the thicker parts of the forest. Silently, Levi followed.
They went up hill, and the air become more and more chilly, but Levi didn't notice any more. Twelve more identical monsters had joined the first, and they all were walking to the peak of the mountain sized hill. Finally, they circled another monster, this one much more reptilian, but covered in armor that connected to its midnight black scales, the metal silver and teal and black. It's crimson eyes glowed, and it starred around, not making a sound.
One of the monsters stepped forward, kneeling. The metal covering its face moved, covering the top of its head now, revealing its face, which was for the most part, a mouth with jagged teeth made of bone. It said something in a series of grunts and hisses, and the lizard like monsters eyes never moved.
Standing up, it stalked forward, bent over, and swallowed the smaller monster whole. Then, it turned around, and set its crimson eyes on boulder. In the next second, a white glowing portal appeared, and each of the monsters stepped through, while the lizard starred out into the night, not seeming to breath.
Even as the last monster walked through the portal, Levi thought the monster looked right at him, and chuckled, but then it was gone, along with the portal.
