Chapter Thirtytwo
Kristof was seated at the table with at least a dozen others, the light from outside lighting the room. All of them were present to come to answer a question. Should John, Levi, and the other non-humans be in the city at the time.
For a few minutes, the arguing grew louder and louder, until Kristof thought he could feel the air buzzing with the tension. Raising his sword in the air, he brought it down on the wooden table, creating a loud crunching noise. Everyone quickly stopped talking and looked up in silence. Kristof took his time taking the sword out, and putting back in its case, he sat down, and lay his feet on the table.
"Are we horsing around now?", he asked, folding his arms. "If so, I think we can all agree it's time we take this all seriously."
Frederick coughed, stepping forward. "May I speak?" When Kristof nodded, Frederick pulled a large book out of his bag, and setting it on the table with a thump, he opened into somewhere in the middle. "It took me a while, but I've finally found what we're looking for. I'm afraid to say that our fears are true, and that a "flood", as John is calling it, is coming."
He motioned to an illustration in the book, and everyone walked over, peering over each other's shoulders. The illustration was of a complex machine made of thousands, even millions of gears, and tank-like treads, which all formed a sphere. "The Old World Gods are great at creating," Frederick said. "But although they are excellent hunters, they cannot destroy as easily as they create. So, they made a device that could destroy for them. This machine, has three tasks. It destroys all the life in the Hub. It recreates the land afterwards. And it creates enough energy to create other Old World Gods. This machine... It sucks up all the continent's, and it siphons the energy out of them, and then it spits the continent's back out. This thing... The Old World Gods are going to kill us all with it."
Everyone was silent, and a few seconds later, they all starred at Kristof. "Where is this thing?"
"I don't know," Frederick barely whispered. "No-one knows. The Old World Gods hid it so they were the only ones who knew where it was. Their probably looking for it as we speak. And then while their all doing that, they sent their minions to catch anyone they thought was... Was worthy. So they could live, while we all die."
Kristof couldn't speak for a while, and for a few seconds, he just starred at the illustration. "We can't stay in the city," he finally said. "We need to go back to the town. No one lives there anymore, aside from Katherine's dad, so everyone else will be safer that way. When we get there, we can figure out what to do."
"What if they attack the city when we leave though?", he asked, following Kristof as he got up to leave.
"As harsh as it sounds, that isn't our main priority, or our main problem, any more. We leave tommarow." With that, Kristof walked out of the building, leaving silence behind him.
