Chapter Thirtyfour

John sat in the passenger side of the truck, starring blankly out into the fields. A few clouds had started appearing, but other than that, everything seemed almost perfectly normal. ......What's going on? I've got a little bit of a tingling feeling... Not sure if this is a demon-angel only thing or not... Levi seems a little worried though. At least this... Mind reading, helps me know that I'm not the only one who's nervous. I'm sure glad I can't actually read minds though. Just emotions.
"John? John?!?!" The demon-angel snapped back to attention as Kristof lightly punched his shoulder, trying to get his attention. "Dude, that's the third time you've done that on this trip. What's going on?"
John shrugged, looking at a chapter book as Kristof kept driving. "It's nothing. Just a little excited about this little trip. Sure beats cleaning an apartment room."
Kristof starred at him for a moment longer. John was sure that he would argue. To his surprise, he just sighed, and made the truck move a little faster. "So, do you think Dan and his sister are the saints they say they are?"
John was surprised again. "Ya. Why?"
"Ever since those shapeshifters that are helping the Old World Gods showed up, I've been thinking. They could have killed any one of us, and made themselves look like them. Or, they could have disguised themselves the whole time." He tightened his grip on the wheel, narrowing his eyes. "While we're trying to plan out how to kill these guys, they could be right underneath our noses, and we wouldn't even know it. And that scares the heck out of me... So, if you find out anyone, and I mean anyone, is one of those things, I want you to tell me. Even if they kill Levi, or Dan, or Katherine. You make sure you tell me, okay?"
John was silent for a while. It had occurred to him that some of the shapeshifters had followed them. But he had never thought of, let alone wanted to think of one of his... Friends, being replaced by a monster. He knew that it wouldn't drive him mad. He would never let it do that. But, it would come close. "Kristof, of I find one of those things, I'll kill it, and then I'll bring its head to you on a silver platter."
Kristof smiled. "Even better. But that brings me to my next question," he said, his face immediately turning serious again. "Do you know who you were?"
John tilted his head, setting the book down. "What do you mean?"
"You know Jenifer? She's been a boatload of help lately. She helped us set up all these supplies, and all the trucks too. But she also did some digging, and she thinks she may have figured who you were, before you woke up in the field that one day."
John held his breath. Crap... This is the part where I have to lie. This is the part where I have to listen to the conversation, and where I have to explain, how I'm just a fake... A fake guy, who's pretending to have the face, the life of someone else.
"John, do you have any idea who exactly JOHN was, thousands of years ago?"
John wouldn't have to lie about this. He knew that the demon-angel was evil, but he didn't know how bad. "My mind is part of some dream I lived ever since I was "born". I don't have a clue what I was like originally. Why, how bad could I have been?", he asked, easily pretending to sound sarcastic.
To his surprise, Kristof started laughing. "Oh dang, you don't know how funny that sounds over hear. Dang, with you're amnesia, or whatever it is that made you not crazy and evil, it helped to kill off one of the most dangerous forces the Hub has known!"
"........W......What?"
"Thousands of years ago, you know about that demon-angel war that Frederick told you? Well, near the end, an evil demon-angel by the name of John, formed an army. He slaughtered his own race, demons, angels, people, and tons of other races, right where they stood. He impaled them on spears and stakes, burned them, dismembered and decapitated them, and laughed the whole time. It was only when all the demon-angels suddenly disappeared, that his murdering stopped. So, are you still that same killer, somewhere in there?"
"No," John said. "This guy, that you're telling me about... I have no idea, how bad he really was, and I hope I never do. But Kristof... I'm not him."
"......Good to know. If you ever figure out that you're turning back though, tell us. You may not realize it, but now that you've fought with us, you're part of our little group, no matter how much I, or Ktherine, or Levi, or any of the others hate to say it."
"Awww, thanks for the complement," John said, chuckling. But as they continued to drive on, his thoughts wondered away. I don't know what to do... I've helped them all, and I want to help them so much more, but...... I'm the only thing keeping away the thing that could kill them all.... I might............ I might......... I might get them all killed.......
John was so deep in thought, that he yelled in surprise as a burst of flames went up behind them, as some of the supply trucks exploded. Then, Sarah was there, having climbed to Kristof's window. "Guys!!!", she yelled, her eyes wide with fear as she looked back. "Someone's rigged the new weapons and supplies to blow up! And we've got company!!!"

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope that you found this chapter informative. We now know, that John now knows, of his demon-angel "friends" colorful past. We also know, that some action is about to start. Possibly the most freaky of all, is the possibility, that one of the ones we know as a good character, is actually a shape shifter. So, in the comments, my question is, if someone is a shapeshifter, who is it? Thanks, and BYE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
