Chapter Seventeen
Levi, Olivia, and her father walked towards the town, happy to almost be home. They had brought two of the people from the city with them, to show everyone that the place was actually real and safe. "Okay, so remember," Olivia's father said. "We have a demon-angel here, so please don't freak out about it."
They nodded. Finally reaching the walls, Olivia whistled. "Dang, they got a lot done fast."
Olivia whistled even louder, not to show amazement, but to get the attention of the people on the other side of the wall. A few seconds later, the gates opened, and they were all let in.
Kristof limped over, smiling. "What took you so long?"
"Nothing much," Olivia said. "Just some trees, and rocks, and us finding a whole city!"
He finally noticed the two other people, who were giving the town unreadable looks. "Ohhh. So the cities safe to go to?"
She nodded.
"Safe to live in?"
She nodded again.
Kristof went into deep thought, starring off into space. Finally, he looked back up. "So, do we need to give them a tour?"
"That is correct," Olivia's father said. "We decided since we were given a tour of their home, we could do the same for them, here."
Kristof led them to each building, explaining it's use. He showed them more of the wall, and explained their previous problems with the demon, but that they were all still strong.
By the end of the day, everyone seemed in a good mood, including the town's visitors. They had been a little terrified around John when he had come racing through town in his towering Demon-angel form, which he could now control the size of. He had turned back though, and talked to the visitors little, and they all now seemed to be friends.
Now, everyone sat at a table outside, eating together. "So how many people do you think will leave to go to the city?", Katherine asked, looking at all the people still partying here.
Olivia had thought of this all day. On the one hand, maybe the city people would come here. But on the other hand, in a few days, there might not be many people here.
"It all depends on a few variables," Frederick said. He had been busy while they were gone, helping John with turning back and forth between human and demon angel. "Our people here will obviously want to go somewhere safe, and this city sounds much safer than here. But at the same time, they may question the beliefs, the religions, the customs, and the government and rules of those people. It all depends."
Uhhh, this hurts my brain!!!, Olivia thought, but kept to herself. "So please explain to me how you built the wall in a record two days?"
"Well, Katherine used here earth stone gauntlets to move the slabs of concrete, along with John, who also welded them together." He grinned. "Our biggest problem was the kids. They think demon-angel John is some kind of rock climbing wall they have to climb up."
John starred around nervously. "The kids here are terrifying. The demon was easy, but I don't know how to handle dozens and dozens of kids! I'll still stay here though. Something tells me I'll like it here more than the city. I might bring stuff from there to here though."
Katherine shook her head. "Not an option, demon-angel. You must leave this town, go live away from people, and never return."
John had a nervous expression. "Please tell me you're joking."
She broke out into laughter. "Yep. How did you not see that? I'm the worst at keeping a poker face here!"
John sighed. "I'm still trying to listen for sarcasm. I be sarcastic, but listening for it is a pain in the butt."
"So, as of now, what abilities do you have?", Katherine's father asked.
"Let's see. As of now, all my abilities are, breathing fire, shooting fire out of my hands, making my claws longer, jumping into the air extremely high, and splitting up into separate plates of armour, which put back together, with me still alive, in a matter of seconds."
"Make sure not to become to over powered," Kristof said. "Otherwise, we might have to start worshipping you as a deity."
John almost joked on his food. "Ya, no thanks," he said, coughing. "I'm not a power hungry demon, remember? Being worshipped sounds exhausting."
Soon, everyone finished their food, and waved goodbye, walking to their own houses. After awhile, Olivia lay in bed, starring up at the ceiling. The demon is dead. We found a city full of people. We've made this place twice as defensive as it was. We're all safe. So why do I still feel scarred?
The only noticeable thing that answered was the crickets. Off in the distance though, a dark armored figure stood, looking up at the stars. He had been watching the same spot for hours at a time. His thoughts weren't his own though. Oh how right you are to still be frightened Olivia. How right all of you are. In this universe, there's always a cat, and a mouse. This new city is a cat, and your old town is a mouse. The demon was a mouse, and I was a cat. But sometimes, unexpected things happen. New people, arrive. He leaned on a stone hill, and tapped one of his metal claws on it. So tell me this little humans. If there is another few people that I know are stronger than me. That I know will arrive in say, three or four days. That I know, are watching right now. Does that make me a frightened little mouse?
