Following the route in the journal they reach the location of the signal transmission but find nothing which leaves them stranded out of nowhere. Meanwhile Paul reaches out to Richard that he has unearthed some unexpected news about Bollinger. When Richard asks him, he reveals that the person with them isn't the real Bollinger shocking him. Richard adamant to accept retorts that he may have misinformation but Paul reassures by stating that he is currently standing in front of the gravestone of Col. Bollinger who passed away a few years back. Frustrated and livid beyond words, Richard stomps his way to Bollinger to demand some answers when he accidentally activates a trap door on the jungle floor. The team follows into the tunnel followed by the trap door where they discover a secret underground medical testing facility the entrance to which bears the strange symbol etched in Samuel's journal. The sight inside the lab leaves them in utter shock – blood drenched walls, mummified and mutilated decomposed corpses of both human and animal with strange deformations and an archive of video documentaries. Meanwhile without anyone noticing both Bollinger and Chi vanishes exploring the further deeper reaches of the facility. As the team rummages through the video tapes, it is revealed that after the US forces caught whiff of the illegal opium trade being carried out from the country the military personnel deemed fit to enact their own brand of justice on the captors. Unexpectedly a small platoon of soldiers, Richard's father being among one of them discovered a strange black ooze in one of the holes dug as traps in the war. The ooze of unknown origin possessed untested properties which was too valuable to be left alone. Failing to find test subjects for conducting experiments they ran covert inhumane experiments on the local Vietnamese and Prisoner of Wars.
