Ch.2

"Ah, that was fun." Malia says to the group.
We just got done with our late night "snack", and were heading to the local rec center.
"Hey, what are those lights?" I ask. Everyone looks straight at the red and blue lights flashing ahead of the road. "Oh crap! It's the police!" I exclaim.
"Why are they here?!" Malia asks, "Amy, what were you selling?"
"It wasn't me! I didn't do anything!"
"Guys calm down. The police aren't coming for us. We are going to see them drive past and everything will be ok." Says Sofia
She was wrong. The police car came to a stop right before our feet. A man who was not wearing a police uniform came out of the car.
"What are you kids doing on the streets this late at night?" The man asks.
"Sorry, sir," Rehan says, "We were just taking a walk." Rehan's head looks at the back of the police car and his eyes open wide. I look at the back of the car as well, and what I see shocks me. A cold, lifeless body wearing the police uniform is slumped over the back seat. I speak up, and lie.
"We have been walking for a few hours. We got lost while walking to McDonalds." The man looks a little puzzled.
"Would you kids like a ride?" He asks.
"Yes ple-" I stop Amy in the middle of her sentence.
"No thank you sir, we are almost home."
The man seems disappointed, hesitates, and then speaks. "Are you sure?"
"Yes, we are sure."
The man gets back in his car and slowly, very slowly, drives away.
"We need to get out of here now!" Rehan says as his voice cracks, again. Everyone quickly runs away from the strange man's car.
While we are running, I noticed that the car was following us.
"Everyone, over here!" Malia shouts. Everyone runs into Wal-Mart, panting, trying to catch their breath.
"Why was he following us?" Amy asks.
"I don't know, but let's stay in here for a while."
We walk around the shop for about an hour. Amy and Sofia lay down in a pile of emoji pillows and bean bags, Malia looks at the art supplies, Rehan tries to look for anime posters, and I just keep walking.
I walk for most of the time that we are there, but soon notice something odd about the cashiers. They look really depressed, and not just the "I'm working at Wal-Mart for college funds" depressed, but like their family just got murdered. I walk up and down the isles, trying not to look suspicious. I spot one cashier that looks familiar, very familiar. I start panicking. I know that face. I saw that face just recently. That is the man.
I run to gather everyone. Back to the posters, art supplies, and the pillows.
"Ugh, why did you wake me up," Sofia and Amy whine, "we were having really good dreams."
"What dreams could you possibly be having at a time like this." Malia asks.
"Yuri...on...Ice" Sofia says quietly.
"Well get those thoughts of Yuri and Victor out of your head, because we're being followed."
Nobody questions me after what has already happened.
"Don't get out of the store!" I said, "follow me."
I go to the back of the store and find the nearest clerk.
"Hello, hello ma'am," I say to the women, "we're being followed, may we hide in the storage room? Or maybe even the janitors closet...if it's big enough."
"Why won't you just call the police!" She replies.
"He killed the police!" Sofia exclaimed.
The women hurriedly led us to the storage room. "Stay in here and be quiet. Try to contact everybody on your contacts!" She says.
That didn't work out. The smelly, dirty storage room kept us distracted. Our phones had also died from taking pictures of what happened on the roof.
"Great. What are we going to do now?" Malia says.
"I have some food left over from McDonalds," Amy replies. She pulls out a box of soggy, sour, mustard covered and carrot-stabbed artificial pieces that weren't even chicken anymore.
"Like I said earlier, no." I told Amy. She sadly puts away the mushy nuggets and sits there with frown on her face.
     Squeak.
The door of the storage room opens up slightly, as if the person were trying to spot us. The door squeaks open a little more, and we can see a dim shadow standing in the doorway, peering in. I shift my body across the crates full of clothes to try to determine who the person is. The door opens one more time, and now I can see the face. The man has found us
"Guys, the strange man is here. He found use." I whispered to the group.
Everyone has a look of panic on their faces.
"There is a slight crack at the bottom of the garage," I say while pointing my finger to the big metal doorway, "we could get through"
Everyone starts to scurry past the crates and towards the carts.
     Crash.
Rehan and Amy bump into the carts and make a slight crashing noise. They look towards the door to she if the figure has moved. It has stayed still. We keep moving until we reach the opening.
"I'll go first!" Rehan says. He slides underneath the garage. One by one we each crawl out of the storage room, until we are all out. The man has not left his spot, still. We run to the closest house, Sofia's house. This time we go full speed.
We finally arrive at another place. Sofia leads us up her pathway and into her house.
"Let's go in your dad's office. It seems like the safest bet." I say to Sofia. She nods. Everyone enters the office as Sofia slides the doors closed. Soon after we lock the doors, Malia and Rehan fall asleep.
"I have a charger. Let's charge our phones so we have our contacts back." Sofia says. She starts to charge her phone, and I lay down. I stare up at the ceiling and wonder, what's going to happen now?
