Chapter 20: No Place Like Home

I feel like I've been working on this chapter forever, and I know it's super short, so I will apologize for that now. If only there was a way I could make it longer... and believe me, I tried my best to add extra things just to make it a bit longer for you guys. I'll try my hardest to make the next one bigger (and better) for you. Anyhow, I hope you all enjoy. =P

Tom normally didn't pack like this. He loved having everything neat and organized, so he would be able to find whatever he needed at a moment's notice. Today, that was not the case. When he had talked to Adrianna she had said her ex was in town mysteriously and apparently wanting to get her back. Tom knew better than to think that Adrianna would leave him, but he wasn't going to let this Matthias character get away with this. Not on his watch. Tom was just going to be glad that for the most part his auditions were all done. He figured he could miss out on the last day so he could make it home before he had to bail Adrianna out of jail.

As soon as he heard, Tom didn't hesitate in calling the airline to try to change his flight. After a lot of fussing and whining from the people in charge, Tom finally got his way and moved his flight up by almost two days. He didn't have enough time to even sleep; he had to hurry up, pack, and head to the airport to catch the next flight out.

So there he was. Throwing all of his clothes and personal items back into his suitcase like he was in a rush. Mostly because he was in a rush. Tom had never wanted to get back home as much as he did right now. So much was coursing through his head; he didn't know where to start. The young man pushed his hair out of his eyes as he began to zip up the suitcase, glancing around the room to make sure he hadn't forgotten anything and throwing his carry-on bag over his shoulder. With that, he left the room, dragging his suitcase behind him.

After a brief drive to the airport, and going through the hassle of security check points, Tom was boarding the plane several hours before he originally anticipated. Upon finally taking his seat, Tom sunk into the chair, getting himself comfortable for the long flight. Thirteen hours of pure airline hell. If there was one thing Tom hated it was heading home and not knowing what he was walking back into. He honestly had no idea on what had happened since he had last talked to Adrianna, but he was sure it wasn't any good.

As the plane began to take off, Tom put his head phones in, playing his music loud enough to drown out the crying infant a few rows back. That was one thing he had never understood; why did people bring their tiny babies onto planes if they couldn't keep them quiet? He promised himself then and there that he would not be that parent when the time finally came. He shook his head, closing his eyes and letting his mind wander.

It had been a long week. Tom was both physically and mentally exhausted. Between his auditions, the heat, the drama Matthias was starting, and missing Adrianna, he was just ready to fall asleep. His mind had been in overdrive since he had left. There was never a down moment; every second he was doing something, and honestly, he was quite glad to be heading home, even if it meant dealing with that jerk Matthias.

Even with the music playing, Tom was somehow able to fall asleep. Admittedly he hadn't slept well since he left. He missed his own bed, not to mention actually being in Adrianna's presence. He wasn't going to lie; it did suck being away for so long. Tom wished he didn't have to keep leaving like he did. Tom absolutely hated doing this to Adrianna. It was always him who would be leaving. It sucked for him too; he really did miss Adrianna, and he was happy to be going back to her. Part of him wanted to give up on the acting lifestyle and get into something more real. Perhaps he would look into that when he got home. In the meantime he was going to try his hardest to catch up on his sleep.

Dreams played out in his mind, subconsciously staging the possible outcomes of what would happen when he got home. Admittedly Tom was a little freaked out over this; he had never had to deal with an ex like Matthias before. This guy was a persistent individual that's for sure. Tom knew he wanted Adrianna back, but there was no way he was going to let that happen. The boy was honestly not sure how it was going to work out. He was just hoping that it didn't resort to physical violence. Maybe by the time he got home Adrianna would have everything worked out; maybe Matthias would've flown back home to Detroit. Tom could only hope.

Tom was awoken from his dreams moments before the plane landed at Heathrow. He was relieved to see that they had made it back safe and sound. He was quick to gather his things and disembark from the plane. Once inside the airport terminal, he made his way to the luggage racks. Tom had been waiting for what seemed like forever before his luggage came scrolling down the conveyer belt. He snatched it up, and made his way outside to the parking lot where he had left his vehicle a few weeks previously.

Before he had even pulled out of the parking lot, Tom pulled out his mobile phone and called Adrianna. She should be wide awake, he thought. I'm sure she'll be glad to hear from me. After a few rings, the girl answered the phone.

"Helloooooo," she chorused into the phone.

"Well hello gorgeous," Tom answered. "Where are you at?"

"We are at the Starbucks," Adrianna replied. Tom could tell she was feeling a bit better than she was earlier. "Why?"

"I'm home, and I'm ready to see you in person," he explained, a smile forming on his face. "Would you like for me to stop by?"

"Of course!" she screamed into the phone. "You know which one we're at right?"

"I assume the one we always go to," Tom said.

"Mmhm, so I'll see you in a little bit?"

"Yes ma'am. I'll be there in a few minutes," Tom assured. "Love you Dree. See you then!"

"Love you too! Bye for now."

With that Tom hung up the phone, placing it in the cup holder next to him. He felt a huge smile forming on his face. It was good to be home. At least for now.
