Chapter Two

Remy curled up in his bed and started to write. He wrote about his first day of high school till he got a text from a random number.

Hey. It read. He was confused, for he hadn't met anyone at school who he exchanged numbers with.

Who is this? He sent it and waited for a response. It came quicker then he anticipated.

I go to school with you. He was getting pretty freaked out.

I'm homeschooled.

No, you're not. Relax, I am not stalking you. I just saw how lonley you looked, and I am dating one of your old friends. That's how I have this number. I am lonely too and thought we could be friends.

Well, he couldn't see how much harm this could do. They were right, he was a little lonely. He tried to make friends but most people didn't pay very much attention to him. So, he might as well take advantage of this situation. They are obviously interested in getting to know him, so why not get to know them too? He wasn't going to give them his address or anything.

Do I know you? Have you ever spoken to me before?

No.

Boy or girl?

Girl. Well, shoot. He wasn't getting a boyfriend out of this. He just prayed he would get a friend. Then, another text came in. Crap, I need to go. Text you later.

Bye. What was he getting himself into?

Adam was walking to the nurse's office, or rather limping. Between classes some kid decided to beat him up. He had never gotten beat up before, only teased. Now he can say from experience that getting beat up is much worse.

When he got into the nurse's office the nurse was going to call his parents but he intercepted and said that he was fine and could just go back to class. He really wanted to leave school, but it probably wouldn't do anything. He would be in pain anyways, it's not like anyone there would care.

"Are you sure?" He nodded and made his way to his locker. Inside his locker was a picture of his parents and him when he was 3. His eyes welled up with tears as he tore it down. Why did he even put that up in the first place? To imagine a life where his family wasn't a complete mess? Because all it has accomplished is reminding him of the fact that his life will always suck. If he didn't show up at school tomorrow, nobody would care. If he didn't ever come home from school, his mom would probably be relieved. Sometimes he wished he could just, vanish.

But right now he had to get to Calculus.

Astrid took a fistfull of her goldfish and shoved it into her mouth. When she started dating Alex after the party where they kissed in spin the bottle she sat with him and his friends, but he tended to ignore her and talk with them about stuff she didn't really care about. And whenever they went anywhere with his friends it was really dull. Sure, their normal dates were fine but she would really rather be hanging out with her friends. So she got up, took all of her stuff with her and left.

"Babe, where are you going?" He asked, suddenly paying attention to her.

"I'm leaving. You guys are ignoring me." He turned and said something to his friends quickly before turning back. They laughed. She didn't need to be a genius to see that he made a joke about her. He tried to get her attention. She ignored him. "Why are you suddenly leaving?"

She scoffed. "I just told you, you just don't care enough to take in my opinion." Astrid retorted and walked up to Madison and Anna, her friends. They automatically asked what happened. She didn't want to cause drama, so she said "I just missed you guys." She lowered her voice. "So, we still on for the party about a week from now?"

"Yeah. I got a new dress for it. It is sure to make you-know-who notice me," Anna said excited.

"Do you mean Xander or Voldemort?" They were quiet for a second then burst out laughing like crazy. This was way better than hanging out with Alex and his friends, they would never understand her humor. The only thing that would make this better is if Blake was here. But he was on vacation still. Sucks that he was missing school--and the first big party of the year.

After school, she face-timed Blake. He had this wide smile across his tan face when he picked up. They had been best friends with each other and Anna since 3rd grade, Madison in 5th, and Alex in 6th. Blake told her everything, as she did with him. His second cousin died of AIDS in Greece, so he had been there for over a month. She missed him, and his impeccable advice. "So, I need help making a decision." He looked instantly intrigued, his dimple growing more visible. "I kind of want to break-up with Alex."

"Why?" Blake asked wide-eyed.

"He is being a jerk to me around his friends, and anyways, I haven't really dated out side of our friend group," She thought of when her and Madison tried dating. That was such a hot mess. They thought they might like each other, so they went on one date. It was so awkward, neither of them wanted a second date. No hard feelings though.

Blake thought for a second. Then he took out his phone. "I had a page bookmarked for something like this. Oh, don't look at me like that. I am well aware that I am a little bit of a social advice junkie. But, that aside, this is a really good website."

"So anyways, I'll ask you some questions real quick. Number one; how do feel when you're with him?" Astrid shrugged. "Gonna need more then that to work with."

"But that's just the thing. I don't feel that much anymore when I am around him. The strongest emotion I normally have for him is annoyance."

"For one, if you hate him as much as you seem to, then you are just wasting your time dating him."

"You are just saying that because you never liked him."

He sighed, placing his phone aside, as he didn't really seem to need it. "That is aside the point. Plus, you should go out, experiment with people. If you didn't have a boyfriend, you may have met a boy or girl at a party or something that you would fall in love with. And I know what you're thinking, that this probably wont happen but who knows? Alex is holding you back."

"But what if people start thinking I am not what I say I am! I can't risk losing my reputation." Blake was one of the only people she talks to about preserving her squeaky-clean reputation. "Alex may not be the best, but he is cool and I like him and wouldn't want to make him so sad he doesn't want to be my friend anymore."

"Okay, just try not to stay with someone too long that you aren't one-hundred percent happy with, or you may miss out on true love. That's what I do. One of them may be your perfect fit. Or it could be a girl, not assuming anything." Astrid laughed a bit. "But really. Talk things out with him. Maybe you can break-up without breaking his heart."

"Blake, that is the smartest thing you have ever said to me."

He smirked. "I try."

Emmett Adel grabbed his gym clothes. He headed to the bathrooms to change. Somebody was in front of a mirror, gelling their dark hair. He tried to avoid talking to him, but the guy saw him in the mirror.

"Hello dye job." He chuckled at his own joke. "I'm Daniel Penn. You?" Emmett didn't respond and started to walk into a stall. "Don't ignore me, what are you mute?" He nodded. That's the best way to avoid conversation honestly. This guy seemed like a jerk anyways. Nothing good comes out of meddling with people like that.

"Oh, so I got a mute weirdo who dyes his hair on my hands." He wanted to say he didn't dye his hair, but stayed silent. He should just go change. "Wait, don't go. I want to have a conversation with you. If that is even possible." Emmett closed the door on him and ignored his yells and taunts till he gave up. This kid was worse then he thought he would be. Hopefully he never had to see him again, but then again, they had the same PE class.

"Hey, Stella!" Finn yelled to his girlfriend as she put on her helmet for her skateboard. She waved at him but before he could come over, a girl who was probably too tall to be in high school in a motorcycle zoomed in between them. Stella looked at the bike longingly as a ginger wearing a black sweatshirt climbed onto it with the woman.

As they rode off, Stella looked upset. Finn knew why. She had been hoping for a motorcycle for a long time. She must have been reminded about the fact that she didn't have nearly enough money for one.

But he walked over to her and tried to take her mind off of it. "So, are you still up for trying out for the basketball team?" He asked, even though he was pretty sure that the answer would be yes.

"Of course! It's my mom's favorite sport." He was scared that talking about her mom might bring up memories of her dad, so he just kept talking.

"I was thinking about joining a club. I gotta get as many college credits as I can right?"

Stella looked interested. "Ooh, you should so join cheer!" He looked sceptical. "Come on, somebody has to root for me while I get all those points."

"You know, I do like the thought of being around attractive girls every day."

"I take it back, Cheerleading isn't your thing." Then Stella added, after laughing with Finn a bit; "I do think that you should actually join a club though. Maybe the band club?"

"I already play the guitar." Stella had a look that said: Oh, right.

They soon decided to go to a coffee shop, and that Finn should drive. When they got there, he took out his laptop and started looking through different extracurriculars available to him.

"Your phone is buzzing, Finn." He looked down. An Unknown Number. Might as well pick up.

"Is this Mr. Finnegan Lars?"

"Yes, who is this?"

"Elora Windlton, I'm here concerning your twin brother, Dean. I'm afraid he has been arrested for dealing." Finn stopped breathing. He stopped moving. Time, everything. Stopped.

"Finn, what happened? You look like someone just ran over your dog," Stella said, visibly concerned.

"I'll call you back." He hung up. "That was someone down at the police station. My brother was arrested."
