5- Tonfa

Cole Alan Pendery.

He supported the Waru. He didn't understand why people thought they were bad. They gave them food and water, they gave them a living space, they really only bothered people for a good cause and they watched over them. He didn't go so far as to be a full-fledged watcher because he didn't like the idea of taking levels from people.

Some people say he's brainwashed into thinking that because his ancestors did. To be honest, if he was, he didn't care. But sometimes he wished he wasn't so unashamed by it.

He had only two friends because they were forced to hang out at first, then they got past their differences and hung out. He and his sister didn't have a good relationship because they had a fight that was unforgivable a long time ago. His parents were always out, they were watchers. They never took levels from their children though. Cole was thankful for that.

He has never actually given a level before, people found him to be too shy to take levels from. That wasn't true though. He didn't talk to people on purpose because when he was younger everyone avoided the kid who supported the Waru.

Today was no different. His friends, Gwen and Jayden, were with their own friends until they could hang out later that night. Their village was near an oasis in a desert. They hung out in that oasis since Cole was the one of the only ones the watchers trusted to go there. No other supporters were his age so he was usually one of the only ones who would go there. He used to go with his sister before the incident but now he is allowed to bring his non-supporting friends because his parents pulled a few strings.

He was waiting at their usual spot to meet at and soon Gwen appeared.

"Hey Cole, rough day?" Gwen asked. Cole nodded. "Aw, well we'll talk about it at the oasis. Jayden should be here in a few."

Jayden appeared suddenly.

"Sorry guys, my friend stopped me to talk about the legend." Jayden said and they started walking.

"You have never stopped obsessing over that legend since you were ten butt-head." Gwen rolled her eyes at him.

Gwen and Jayden were sibling. Jayden was older than Gwen by almost a year. Gwen hated talking about the legend, she didn't believe in it, neither did Cole actually. He was taught not to believe in it actually. Even if Cole wasn't taught that he still didn't think he'd believe in it. It was silly, where would a weapon magically appear anyways? Jayden was another story.

Most of the Cole and Jayden arguments were about the legend. Cole thought Jayden was stupid and Jayden thought Cole was stupid. It was the disadvantages to having friends.

Just outside the oasis stood one of the watchers. He nodded at Cole but glared at the other two when he let them pass.

They talked for hours on end. The watcher was too far away to hear their conversations so they could insult him, they did get along well. They made an agreement a long time ago that the oasis was a no-conversations-about-the-legend-or-the-Waru zone. It was for the best because before they made that rule all thy did was argue. It ended with one of them leaving at some point and then apologizing.

It was a beautiful night tonight. The moon was big and bright, the stars were twinkling. It was peaceful. They stayed quiet, staring at the sky.

Then Jayden ruined it by saying they had to go. Cole always stays there a while after Gwen and Jayden leave. He liked that he got some alone time. The watcher guarding the oasis always left when the siblings did too.

He was just relaxing by himself a couple minutes after Gwen, Jayden and the watcher were out of sight when a wind started. It was a fierce wind. Cole rolled out of the way before a tree fell over right on top of him. He wanted to run out of there but there was something engraved on the tree that toppled over. He was too curious not to read it.

One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six

A horrible error you must fix,

You are wrong but you'll soon learn, you gotta,

Whether or not you like it, you're the next Keeper of the Tonfa

"Frick no." Cole said, standing and stumbling backwards. He didn't even notice that the wind had stopped.

He couldn't be one of the heroes, he couldn't be. He was a supporter. His parents would be disappointed in him.

Something caught his eye in the water. Despite the fact that Cole wanted to run he went towards it.

There were the weapons people called tonfa. He could see the initials K.o.t.T. on both of them. He started to walk away when a gust of wind pushed him into the water. The sand seemed to swallow him up.

'I'm going to freaking die.' Cole thought as he blacked out.
