Honeyfern was rested on a rock, staring down at the grassy ground. Her eyes gave a sad expression as she remembered Berrynose and her sister Poppyfrost were happily together. Honeyfern's heart ached for Berrynose and tried to be happy that Poppyfrost brought a smile onto his face. Honeyfern let out a long sigh. She couldn't believe Berrynose had moved on so quickly after her death. A question always appeared in Honeyfern's mind: Should she be happy or sad?

Honeyfern got onto her paws and leaped from the rock. Then she lifted her head up as she noticed Cinderpelt trotting over to her. She started hiding her pain and sadness from the once ThunderClan medicine cat.

"Honeyfern, I know how much pain you're in," the dark grey she-cat mewed.

"Pain? I'm not in any pain at all, Cinderpelt," Honeyfern lied.

"There's no need to be sad about it."

"How can I when I love Berrynose and he chose my sister over me?" Honeyfern snapped. "You're a medicine cat and you have no idea what it's like to lose someone you love!" Cinderpelt sighed. She had once been Cinderheart but her spirit was freed. Now her spirit rested in StarClan as she watched over Cinderheart.

"I once loved many moons and leaf-bares ago," she began as she began to start remembering about her life-time. "It all started when I became Firestar's apprentice. I was training to be a warrior but then I ran onto the Thunderoath because of Tigerstar. I got hit by a monster, twisting my leg." Cinderpelt stopped as her blue eyes stared at her twisted leg with sadness.

"Firestar was your mentor?" Honeyfern asked and Cinderpelt nodded.

"I had no idea what to do with my life until I was made Yellowfang's apprentice and began starting the path of a medicine cat."

"But what does that have to do about you loving?"

"It has something, Honeyfern. You see, I loved Firestar when I became his apprentice. I wanted to be the best warrior I could and I looked up to him. He was a great mentor as he was a leader."

"You loved Firestar?" Honeyfern gasped.

"Yes. I kept it hidden to myself and I never uttered a word. I knew I could never be his mate because I became a medicine cat, but then Firestar took Sandstorm as his mate."

"Were you sad?" Honeyfern asked.

"Sad, but happy. You see, Berrynose moved on and his heart lies with Poppyfrost, but deep down he still loves you," Cinderpelt told the former ThunderClan warrior.

"Yeah, right. He doesn't love me at all anymore," Honeyfern said sadly.

"I speak nothing but the truth. You should be happy for him as I was happy for Firestar."

"Cinderpelt?" a voice said the former medicine cat's name and Cinderpelt and Honeyfern turned, noticing Bluestar, a former ThunderClan leader.

"Yes, Bluestar?" Cinderpelt mewed.

"It's good to see you again," Bluestar mewed and dipped her head to her medicine cat. Cinderpelt dipped her head in respect to Bluestar.

"And I can say the same thing to you."

"You've been freed from Cinderheart, haven't you?"

"Yes," Cinderpelt mewed. "I thank you all deeply for giving me the chance to follow my dream."

"You deserved it," Bluestar said.

"I can sense the presence of a new member," a voice mewed from above. All cats looked up and noticed Ashfur. The grey tom was lying on a branch, his blue gaze staring down.

"Were you eavesdropping on us?" Honeyfern questioned with anger.

"No, I just climbed up this tree," Ashfur called down.

"He did just climb up the tree," Bluestar mewed. All the anger Ashfur had see,ed to be flung away as he looked happy.

"I'm going to go," Homeyfern mewed and walked away. I'll go hunting, she decided in her thoughts as she leaped from a log she was standing on. She paused and lifted her head, sniffing the air. She caught the scent of something, but not any prey she could remember. . .

"Honeyfern?" a voice said her name and she turned around, eyes widening slightly.

"Berrynose!" Her eyes were filled with happiness for a few heartbeats before darkening.

"Hello." Honeyfern then turned her back on the cream-furred tom she had loved. "Honeyfern?"

"Stay away from me, Berrynose." Berrynose blinked.

"Why?"

"I saw you and Poppyfrost," Honeyferm growled as she turned. "You took her as your mate so quickly."

"You saw?"

"I can see everything! Just because I die that gives you a reason to go be with another cat, who just so happens to be my sister?"

"But I'm not with her anymore. I. . . I've always loved you more, Honeyfern."

"You're just saying that," Honeyfern spat. "You don't even understand I have feelings at all!"

"I do!" Berrynose argued.

"Then why did you become my sister's mate practically just after I died?"

"Because she reminds me of you. . .?"

"Poppyfrost is nothing like me! Don't bother crawling back to me because I don't need you." Honeyfern gave the cream-furred warrior a glare and then walked away. Who was Berrynose to come crawling back to Honeyfern after being with Poppyfrost?

"Honeyfern, I'm so sorry about you and Berrynose." Honeyfern noticed Hollyleaf and the anger he had for Berrynose left her.

"There's no need to be sorry. Berrynose got what he deserved," she replied to the black she-cat.

"Every cat can tell you still love Berrynose. Why did you do that to him? You had the chance to be with him again."

"Hollyleaf, that was in the past. Forget about it," Honeyfern told her friend.

"You should go and apologise," Hollyleaf mewed. Honeyfern shook her head.

"No." Hollyleaf said nothing to the cream she-cat.

Meanwhile Berrynose still stood in the spot where he was standing, staring blankly at where Honeyfern had left. His eyes began to fill up with pain and a mixture of sadness. He felt sad that Honeyfern was angry at him and didn't even want to know him anymore. Do I really deserve all this? Berrynose asked himself.

A shadow loomed over Berrynose and he turned around, noticing the brave and noble Firestar. He dipped his head in respect to his Clan's leader before Bramblestar.

"Berrynose, you must know Honeyfern still loves you," the ginger tom mewed. Berrynose realised that Firestar looked much younger than when he last saw him.

"She made it clear she doesn't," he pointed out to Firestar.

"But she does love you. Every cat can see it. Try talking to her."

"Honeyfern will just claw my fur off."

"Berrynose."

"Okay, okay, I'll talk to her," Berrynose sighed and began walking away from Firestar. He was following Honeyfern's scent but then he caught the scent of a different cat, instantly recognising Hollyleaf's. Berrynose began breaking from a walk to a run.

A white she-cat padded over to Honeyfern and Hollyleaf, who were perched on rocks.

"Hello, Snowfur," Hollyleaf mewed. Honeyfern mewed a greeting to the white she-cat too.

"Greetings, Hollyleaf, Honeyfern," Snowfur returned their greetings. "I'm so sorry Berrynose broke your heart and came crawling back to you." The she-cat's ice-blue gaze was fixed onto Honeyfern.

"How do you--?"

"I may have told some cats," Hollyleaf said in a nervous tone.

"News in StarClan spreads around faster than in ThunderClan," Snowfur mewed. Honeyfern sulked back slightly as she knew practically every cat in StarClan would know about the news by now.

"Sorry," Hollyleaf mewed to the cream she-cat. "Hey, look, there's Berrynose!" Honeyfern looked and noticed the cream-furred tom appearing, skidding to a halt. He spotted Honeyfern among the crowd of deceased cats and stared at her. Honeyfern shot a glare at him. Berrynose started pushing past the deceased and was heading towards Hollyleaf, Honeyfern and Snowfur.

"Honeyfern, I bet I can climb up that tree over there," Berrynose mewed and flicked his tail at a tree.

"I bet you can't," Honeyfern mumbled and Berrynose's ears flicked. He began walking over to the tree he was going to climb, unsheathing his claws. Honeyfern watched and then heard a yowl. She looked closely and noticed Russetfur's eyes burning with anger.

"Watch where you put your paws!" she hissed and Berrynose looked down, noticing one of his paws had stepped onto her tail.

"Sorry, Russetfur," Berrynose apologised and continued walking. He dug one set of claws into the bark of the tree, making sure he had a secure grip. He then dug his three other sets of claws and began carefully climbing up the tree.

Honeyfern watched carefully as the tom began getting higher from the ground. He climbed past the first branch from the tree.

"Wait, is Berrynose actually going to climb to the very top of the tree?" Hollyleaf asked.

"Maybe so," Honeyfern replied. Just be careful you don't fall, Berrynose, she told the tom in her thoughts.

Berrynose was about half way up the tree.

"Almost there," he said to himself. "Just a little further." All of a sudden he found himself in the air, falling. He was wide-eyed as he was falling, flailing his paws about. Then he landed and to his surprise he wasn't injured or anything. Honeyfern let out a sigh of relief.

"If you fall, you can't get hurt," Snowfur mewed. "Even if you run for a long time you won't be tired."

"Really? I must have forgotten about that for a few heartbeats or so," Honeyfern mewed.

"Come to think of it, I think Berrynose is trying to impress you, Honeyfern," Hollyleaf said.

"That's a waste of time, then," Honeyfern mewed.

"Honeyfern, I fell and didn't get hurt!" Berrynose said in surprise as he trotted over to the three she-cats. Honeyfern turned her head away from Berrynose so that he wasn't in her sight.

"Do you guys hear something?" Honeyfern asked her friends.

"No," both Hollyleaf and Snowfur answered at the same time. Berrynose let out a sigh.

"I'm sorry, Honeyfern. I--I didn't mean to hurt you." Honeyfern could detect pain with a mixture of sadness in Berrynose's tone. She started feeling bad about herself now. She looked at Berrynose.

"Come," she mewed and began walking away. Berrynose hesitated and then followed.

"Hi, Honeyfern!" Longtail called out a greeting. Honeyfern flicked her tail to return her Clanmate's greeting. Berrynose looked at the black-striped cream tom as he was sitting with Mousefur. Mousefur looked so much younger than when she was an elder. Berrynose then looked away from his two Clanmates. Honeyfern skidded to a halt by a log. A small crack of light pushed past a gap between some trees.

"I really do love you more than Poppyfrost, Honeyfern," Berrynose said. "I've never forgotten about you at all." Honeyfern let out a sigh.

"I'm sorry for acting like a mouse-brain to you. I was still heartbroken and I thought you didn't love me."

"Of course I do love you," Berrynose mewed. "I always have." Honeyfern's eyes began to brighten.

"I know. I love you too," Honeyfern mewed. The once two mates twined their tails and began walking away, forgetting about Poppyfrost who was living her life back in ThunderClan with her kin and friends.
