Chapter 8: Light
A bright light shines in your eye, I tingling feeling runs through your head mostly from how your struggling not to close your eyes tightly from the burning sensation the lighting gives to your iris. You blink a few times as Doctor Light steps back and brings her detachable limb towards her right arm that was hand less. She screws the fleshy flashlight onto her arm before wiggling the fingers after locking it in place, for good measure.
She then leans back into her wheeled chair with her clipboard in hand "Your vitals are stable. Your pupils are slightly dilated but give that a few days and it'll ware off." She stated adjusting her glasses as her head rose to look you in the eye.
"That's great and all but, what can you tell her about this?" Warren cuts in holding up the few pieces of white hair on your head. You glance at him taking your lock of hair from his grip before looking at the doctor, expectingly.
She shakes her head, her bottom lip coming forward as if in a pout as she look down at her notes "I'm not entirely sure. However, I can make the assumption that your experiencing a slight decrease of blue blood cells." She answered and you perked up at that.
There was a long pause...
It took you a moment to register what she meant and you let out a humour less laugh, a frown on your face before putting a hand over your pumping heart, you looked away from her absent-mindedly before speaking almost timidly.
"You mean I'm...losing my powers?" You asked her hesitantly, afraid of the answer you'd receive. Blue blood cells were found in the blood of the superhuman, it's like a confirmation of your enhanced bloodline. They don't just leave a person's body especially a superhero's, however if somehow they could then that would mean your losing your abilities.
Doctor Light shook her head quickly waving a hand just above her clipboard "No. No. No. Not at all. It just seems like your powers are freezing them." She confirms but you raise a brow in question.
"How's that possible? Her body is supposed to be compatible with her power." Warren includes his vocals rising as if angry, his hand on your shoulder and a glare directed at the Doctor.
"I've had these powers since I was 7. Why is this happening now?" You questioned, a shaking hand on your chest.
Doctor Light glances Warren's way before looking back at you, she breathes deeply "Your abilities are the manipulation of the cold itself and in its own way it protects you from said cold including its opposite, heat. However, when exposed to too much, it can weaken over time and causes your body to use up as much of your blue cells as it can in order to protect you."
You feel Warren stiffen beside you before his hand withdraws itself from your person "Too much of what?" You ask your voice almost a mere whisper.
"I believe your best option would be too stay away from extreme temperatures. Your friend...for example. I'm sorry, darling." She apologizes with a soft, apologetic smile.
You look down blinking rapidly, you don't say anything afraid to acknowledge what she said so plainly to your face. This couldn't be happening to you....Why was this happening? Was this really the case? Did you really have to stay away from Warren if only to keep the power that allowed you to be acknowledged as a superhuman.
"I shall inform your parents of this--" Doctor Light paused in her sentence as a loud slam echoed through the nearly silent infirmary.
You turned around in your seat and frowned sadly seeing only a scorched seat, melting plastic running down to the floor from what used to be a chair.
You felt your eye's begin to water as you realized what this sudden condition meant for you both. If you had to stay away from him, what could that mean for him, what could it mean for you? You loved him....you couldn't bare to stay away from him for even more than a day. Let alone a lifetime....
You couldn't do it...you hadn't even tried yet but, you already knew that you'd never be able to stay away from the man who had become your light in this cold, dark world. You needed him and in some way you knew that he needed you.
Without turning towards the Doctor, you picked up your bag and ran towards the door "I'm sorry but I'm late for class" you said simply lying through your teeth as you heard the Doctor stutter over her own sentence as you opened the door.
"No (y/n) wait--" she continued a hand raised to stop you but you were already gone and racing after Warren's departing figure.
"Warren!"
