Chapter 3

The room was dark. Lit only by the faint glow of a wide screen displaying an image on one wall and the soft light of a Trevenant's eye. The Trevenant had its root-like feet planted at the corner of the barely lit room.

The figure in the chair was relaxed into his seat with a Zoroark at his side when a knock sounded at his door. A woman dressed in an all black suit entered and went to his side. "What's the report?" The figure in the chair asked, almost sounding madly desperate.

The woman glanced at her tablet, which made more light than the screen on the wall and the Trevenant's eye combined, and she said, "We're doing all that we can, Sir Greyson, but with the information that you've provided us... The only feasible lead we have so far is reports from civilians about a shadowy figure seen around Quartz City. A shadow the size of the Pokemon that fits your description. However, those reports have since grown old, about two days ago. Teams have been sent to search for it but have come up empty."

She waited for his response. She knew this was going to put him in a bad mood for the rest of the week, but his response was more composed than she thought.

"Hmm, so it's gotten closer to Stone Forest huh? The closest it's been since I've started searching for it. Does it perhaps know?" The woman didn't know if she was supposed to answer the question, but Greyson continued.

"Send some teams to Sapphire City. We need to have eyes and ears in the city next to Stone Forest in case it tries to head west again." The woman in the suit noted this on her tablet, "Understood."

She hesitated, but mustered the courage to add, "Sir, I know it has been a difficult time for you and so much has been put on your shoulders, but I think that you chasing this, this.... this imaginary Pokemon is just your response to changes happening inside your mind and in your life."

Greyson already started to look annoyed when she said 'imaginary' and was now definitely in a bad mood.

He growled his reply, "I. Don't. Care. I know my memory is sharp and the image in my head sharper. It exists, Laura. I will find it, and you will be sorry for ever doubting me." Laura began to say, " Greyson, it's oka--"

With a sudden motion, Greyson pounded the arm rest of his cushioned chair with a closed fist, making both Pokemon in the room and Laura flinch in shock. "I don't need your sympathy." He was practically shouting at this point, "I don't care if it was my father's dying wish that you look after me, I will have you thrown out of here if you ever question my vision again!"

Laura was stunned into silence. She had never heard him that mad ever.

After some time, she bowed her head slightly and spoke, "Of course sir, I am sorry. I will do everything it takes to get you to that Pokemon." With that, she left the room, leaving Greyson to his anger and guilt ridden thoughts. I know it's real. I didn't just imagine those giant trees torn to splinters right before my eyes that day.

He glanced at the image that's been on the screen since he received it from a report several weeks ago. It was a blurry image of something small dashing from one shadow to the next. I didn't just imagine you were real. I'm going to find you, and then I will be the one laughing. Especially with the power you posses.

Greyson got out of his chair, "I'm going out for my walk, you two stay here and don't ruin anything while I'm gone." He ordered the two Pokemon. Soon, little shadow. Soon you'll be mine.
