The Eternity
Author: EricCruisoe
Genre: Short story/romance
What I liked about this book:
It was short. It was easy enough to read. Some of the imagery was pretty. It would have been good as a series of poems. The prose flows well, and the author does pick some apt imagery in places. I think they'd be good at stream of consciousness works, which are hard.
What I did NOT like about this book:
I don't know anything more about the characters at the end of this book than I did at the beginning. I have no idea what the narrator's name is, or what the dude's name is. I have no idea where we are. And all of this started with the narrator's love interest leaving a shitty comment on her instagram photos, which just makes him look like a douche.
The author really needs to evaluate dialogue, because people don't talk like that. The narration was very purple, to the point where I found it incredibly distracting, and seemed to have metaphors that were in there for metaphors' sake.
There were also a drug reference--caffeine dilating the eyes--that really annoyed me. Yeah, caffeine does dilate your eyes, to such a tiny degree that the guy would have been psychic to notice. Stuff like Atropine and certain psychedelics will dilate the shit out of your eyes, but not caffeine. That really annoyed me. If the author's trying to make an underhanded statement about how attractive MC's love interest is with this, it's not working.
Anyway the rest of this just didn't really make any sense. Does she know how much coffee costs? Why is she drinking eleventy billion cups of it? Why is she meeting this guy to begin with? What even is the plot here?
I just felt kind of confused.
Overall:
This wasn't the worst but I certainly didn't like it.
Rating:
3/10. I honestly have nothing to say here, and not in a good way really.
