Chapter Twelve

It was finally Saturday.

Ray and I decided we should meet around noon so we could have lunch there.

We were to meet in our nifty little downtown area of Swellville. At a Starbucks, of course, because we wouldn't want to be around a bunch of old people enjoying all the antique stores.

It was a pretty big Starbucks, designed for sit down times. I swung open the glass door and a little bell jingled overhead, surprising me.

I ordered a refresher for this warm fall day from a smiling teenager that didn't look all that much older than me. I checked my black smart phone and saw it was 11:48 A.M.

I silently sipped my cool drink at booth by the window, keeping a lookout for Ray.

Getting impatient, I got a napkin and cleaned off a couple of the classic black tables that had crumbs on it left on them from past customers.

I sat back down and finished my refresher. I checked my phone. 12:13.

Ray is never late for anything. Whether it's a football practice or volunteering at a soup kitchen, he's there right on time. Doesn't want to disappoint anyone, I guess.

He surely hasn't forgotten, us talking about it so much this past week, and he knows where we were to meet up, we just went over it this morning.

Where was Ray?
