My had jaw dropped, and I was having a hard time getting it to close.
I remembered the last time I had asked why we never did anything with my Dad's side of the family. We never saw them for Thanksgiving, or Christmas, or some no-school day.

"I've told you this before," my dad said harshly, "and this should be the last time I have to tell you."

My eight-year-old self nodded solemnly.

"I have a brother. But he has done horrible things. Things that made him no longer a part of the family."

And of course, that spurred my curiosity. "What kind of horrible things?"

"We do not speak of it."

"But-"

"We do not speak of your Uncle, Weslyn!" Dad snapped.

I never had the courage to ask again. I could never forget the look of absolute regret and what was almost disgust on my father's face.

My mom's voice pulled me out of my memories. "I apologize. This must be a lot to think about." she puts a hand on my knee and I shake it off automatically. "As you know, the A-S-L-D has been doing their best to find him." ASLD, the American Superhero League of Defense. The US's group of super heroes that spend the majority of their time protecting the community from, you guessed it, villains. Villains were defined as unbeatable criminals (by normal humans that is) or criminals with super powers or super machines. And so of course, something super had to fight back, and that was the ASLD.

"But Chaos has left no trace. The ASLD interrogated your father, but unfortunately Chaos left his brother long before he left the law. Though, of course your father still feels responsible for his little brother. And so we hired a team of skilled investigators. They haven't found anything... until recently."

"What? What did they find?" I felt as if I was reading something out of a storybook, and there was a cliff I was dangling off of, and if I didn't find out, I would fall.

"They think he might be planning something. They can't tell what. They just know- well let's just leave it at they know it's something big."
