Chapter 12: An Unexpected Scene
Taehyung let out a sigh of relief at the sight of Eunha's house in the distance.
From every inch of his body, he was cold-shaking. His feet had grown numb and fatigued from all the walking in the snow. He dragged himself up the porch steps as he wondered if Eunha was home or not and what she might be doing. She hadn't replied to his texts.
Taehyung felt bad for giving Eunha the cold shoulder because of Jungkook. Sure, Jungkook had done them wrong but it wasn't Eunha's fault. He couldn't blame her for being a good person with a good heart. He felt that he had been too harsh with her in the morning so he wanted to apologize for it. Brushing off the snow from his damp hair and clothes, he inhaled a shallow breath before bringing out the spare key, that he always kept with him, from his pocket.
He inserted the key in the keyhole and turned it and the lock opened with a soft click. The door had been locked. That meant Eunha wasn't home. He sighed as he stuffed the key back in his pocket. Why wasn't Eunha home? Was she also trying to look for Jungkook? Was she out to find a job? Or did she purposely go out because she didn't want to see Taehyung? Deciding that he would give her a call after he was done washing up, Taehyung walked in, expecting to be the only person in the house.

Jungkook sat up when he heard the creak of the front door opening. He had been lying down on the couch, scrolling through his phone mindlessly as he waited for Eunha. Now that he thought she was back, he instantly straightened up, putting his phone down on the table, and ready to welcome her back with a warm smile. He was also secretly eager to get his favorite ice cream.
"That was fast," Jungkook casually commented with a smile as he heard lazy footsteps approaching. The sound disappeared the moment words had escaped Jungkook's lips as if the person approaching had stopped dead in their tracks. As Eunha's thin figure did not appear in the lounge immediately, Jungkook felt chills run down his spine, a feeling of impending doom rising in his gut. Suddenly, he felt awfully cold. The brief silence that made Jungkook feel nervous was followed by a stomping of feet.
Jungkook was positive whoever had entered the house was not Eunha but someone else but he was hoping against hope that he was not met with the worst-case scenario.
To no one's surprise, as Kim Taehyung rushed into the lounge, Jungkook shot up from the couch like he had been pricked by a needle. Instead of being met with Eunha's warm chocolate eyes, he was met with two cold stony eyes. Jungkook didn't need to see his reflection to know how the color had drained from his face. He looked like he'd just encountered a ghost. It felt like hours had passed as Taehyung stared at him with a mixture of surprise and offense in his eyes. Jungkook could barely breathe.
This was really bad.
"Jeon Jungkook?" Taehyung's voice came out harsh like he'd said a cuss word instead of his name. Goosebumps covered Jungkook's body, his fight or flight senses on edge. He knew he would choose the latter but Taehyung was standing in the way, blocking the only door from where Jungkook could exit the house. He hadn't thought much about it before but the worst thing about Eunha's house was that there was no backdoor in it. Jungkook felt like he had been shoved into an unexpected scene without an escape and he had no idea what he should do now.
"T-Taehyung." Jungkook stuttered out, his blood running cold. Something was wrong. Eunha had guaranteed that Taehyung wouldn't come back for a few days, but Taehyung was right there standing in front of him, like the fragment of his worst nightmares.
"What the fuck are you doing here?" Taehyung snarled, his body becoming hot with anger. His eyes wandered around the lounge once as if checking for anyone else besides the two of them. When his gaze shifted back to Jungkook's body, he was already charging towards him.
"Look, before you get angry, hear me out—" Jungkook tried to speak as he raised his hands in surrender but he was cut off as Taehyung landed a hard punch to his face. Jungkook whimpered, backing away but Taehyung grabbed him harshly from the front of his turtleneck.
"Are you wearing my clothes right now?!" He growled, his lips curling up as he looked Jungkook up and down.
"I-I can explain," Jungkook squeaked, holding his arms up to cover his face. "Eunha let me wear them. She brought me back here and—"
"Eunha?" Taehyung's voice hinted disbelief for a moment. "What bullshit did you fill her head with?"
"I just told her what she wanted to know," Jungkook retorted as he pushed Taehyung's hand off him, trying to look stronger than he felt. Taehyung gnashed his teeth.
"Don't fuck with me. Where is Eunha?" He demanded, suddenly grabbing Jungkook by his hair. Jungkook let out a yelp as he felt his hair being pulled from the roots.
"Ah, that hurts! Let go of me!" Shouting, he wrapped his fingers around Taehyung's wrist to stop him from pulling on his strands.
"Answer me." Taehyung forced, not budging at all.
"Let go! She..." Jungkook spoke in between hisses. "...went out, you psychopath!" He completed his sentence before he lifted his face to bite Taehyung's wrist. Taehyung winced, instantly retreating his arm and tumbling backward. He rubbed the part where Jungkook had sunk in his teeth and noticed the teeth marks on his skin.
"I told you to let go!" Jungkook complained, feeling much relieved now that his hair was out of Taehyung's sharp grip. But he had a feeling that he was in for a much worse reaction. Taehyung glared up at Jungkook with so much rage in his eyes that Jungkook felt on edge. This was it. There was no way he could avoid this situation. Jungkook prepared himself for self-defense.
Taehyung was ready to murder and even though Jungkook's chances of survival were low, he refused to go down without a fight.

Eunha didn't remember the last time she had run this fast, this desperately. She had not been faced with many panic situations in her life but this was not a first either. The fact that Jungkook was not answering his phone was what made Eunha feel even more nervous. She knew if Taehyung got home before her, things were going to get bad real fast. Taehyung had no control over his anger and Jungkook wasn't strong enough to defend himself.
"Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit." She repeated over and over again as she ran as fast as she could with a bruised knee, the knee that she had injured while chasing Jungkook. It hurt to bend her leg and Eunha feared that she might trip, but there was no time. She needed to hurry up. This was the second time she was running like a maniac in one day and it was because of Jungkook again. This boy was surely trouble for her.
After a few more minutes of speeding past blurry surroundings, Eunha finally reached her house. Panting, she rushed onto the porch and inserted the key in the door right away, but it was already unlocked. Eunha felt her blood run cold. Bashing the door open, she sprinted inside and felt like she'd entered a nightmare. Taehyung and Jungkook were on the living room floor, at each other's throats, their faces covered in their own blood.
A gasp escaped Eunha's lips as she witnessed Taehyung choking Jungkook, who was struggling to breathe. Jungkook reached out his hand and scratched Taehyung across the face, his nails leaving red trails over the tan of Taehyung's smooth skin. He took that chance to quickly jump up to his feet as he gently rubbed his throat, coughing out. Taehyung grunted and stood up right after him, lashing out at him again.
"Taehyung! Jungkook! Stop!" Eunha shouted as she ran towards them. Before Taehyung could punch Jungkook again, Eunha intervened, grabbing Taehyung's wrist. His fury seemed to die down for a moment as he saw Eunha stand between the two boys, wide-eyed.
"Eunha! Thank goodness you're here. He's out of his fucking mind!" Jungkook squeaked, moving further behind Eunha as if she were a shield. The lower half of Taehyung's face was crimson because of the blood oozing out of his nose. It looked like Jungkook had managed to get a few hits on him. At hearing Jungkook's voice, Taehyung's eyes turned cold again and he snatched his wrist out of Eunha's gentle grasp.
"You stay the fuck out of this!" He bellowed at Eunha as he roughly pushed her aside. She stumbled on her feet before barely managing to balance herself. Jungkook tried to continue hiding behind Eunha but Taehyung was faster. In a moment, he was dragged away from Eunha and received another hit to the face. His body ached and his face was stinging with pain as he tried to protect himself weakly.
"Don't you fucking dare feed on her empathy and use her again!" Taehyung warned, grabbing Jungkook by the collar.
"I'm not, you mental patient!" Jungkook shouted back, reaching out to grab Taehyung's hair. As girly as it was to use such a move during a fight, Jungkook had no choice. He felt too weak and this was the best defence he could use now. He tried to land a punch, but to his demise, Taehyung dodged it. Taehyung groaned in pain because of Jungkook's grip on his hair and kicked him in the side with his knee. Jungkook immediately bent over with a sharp gasp, his hand freeing Taehyung's hair. Another punch was received by Jungkook's already bruised face. Eunha heard a crack and hoped it wasn't his bone. Moaning, he grabbed his nose in his hands, his eyebrows furrowed and eyes shut as if it was too difficult to open them.
Taehyung still had no mercy to spare though. He continued to abuse Jungkook as he was kicked down to the floor. For a moment, all he could feel was pain from the blows he was receiving nonstop. This was an unfair fight. Taehyung was stronger than Jungkook and he wasn't giving Jungkook a chance to snap out of the pain or fight back.
"C-Cut it out! That's enough!" Eunha choked out as the scene before her grew uglier. She didn't want Jungkook to get any more hurt. Snapping out of whatever trance she had fallen into, she stomped towards Taehyung and pulled him off the beat-up boy.
"I SAID STOP IT, YOU'RE GOING TO KILL HIM!"
"DON'T TRY AND STOP ME!" Taehyung pushed Eunha away from him in rage, and oblivious to his own strength, he ended up putting too much force into it. Eunha gasped as she tripped backward, supporting herself by landing on her right hand and knee so she didn't fall all the way down. For a moment, there was silence in the house as she stared in shock. The boy standing before her looked so different from the one she used to know that she could hardly believe it was Taehyung. Taehyung twitched for a moment like he was going to help Eunha up but he didn't. He stood there as still as a statue with his face screwed up. Eunha felt like it broke something inside her, something she feared she would never be able to mend again.
He was different. Tears formed in the corners of Eunha's eyes as she stood up and glared at him.
"This is all your fault!" He pointed a finger at her accusingly. "You owe me a fucking explanation. What is this bastard doing here?!"
That's right, he was different now. No more shy boy high school version of Taehyung still existed, but Eunha had also changed. She slapped him across the face with the same force he'd pushed her with, almost as if she wanted to get even. Taehyung huffed, his head turned sideways, lips stretching in a sarcastic smile. A friendship turned sour, that's what they were now.
"If you're going to act like this, get out of my house." Eunha deadpanned.
"You want me to leave, is that it?" Taehyung arched a brow, his head unmoved. "Why? So you could let his ass live here instead and replace me?"
"Replace you?" Eunha scoffed. "If you're that insecure, just say it. Don't take it out on Jungkook." A tear slipped down her cheek. She felt frustrated with the situation. Taehyung looked away like he didn't want to notice it.
"Everything's not about you. If Jungkook's here again, there's a reason for it, but you're never willing to listen or understand. All you do is get out of control and act out!"
"Fine. Explain then. What is the reason?" Taehyung's expression changed. His features eased and he looked less tense now, less mad. Eunha assumed her tears had washed a wave of guilt over him.
"Not when you're being a block-head. Settle down first, you're both hurt." Eunha said, sighing, as she wiped at her face. "We should go to the hospital." She added.
"No! I'm fine!" Jungkook suddenly shrieked, making both Eunha and Taehyung look at him.
"Are you afraid of hospitals or what?" Eunha gave him a strange look. He had declined to go to a hospital the night they had first met too.
"No, I mean it'll just be a waste of money..." He trailed off, wincing. Eunha stayed silent for a moment before shrugging him off. She was too tired to interrogate Jungkook about not going to a hospital. She was also still emotionally recovering from the fight.
"I'll fix you both up. Sit down, Taehyung," She announced as she walked towards the kitchen to get the first-aid kit but noticed Taehyung walk off towards his room.
"Where are you going? I told you to sit down,"
"I'm not that hurt, I'll be fine." He stated, stopping to look back at Eunha. She didn't look convinced.
"You're going to baby him again and I don't have the patience to see that so I'm going to go wash up. Fix his ugly face before I'm back, then we can talk." Taehyung added, pointing towards Jungkook. Then he went to his room and closed the door.
"Unbelievable." Eunha sighed out.
Letting Taehyung be for the moment, she brought the kit from the kitchen and sat down in front of Jungkook who seemed to be sniffling. She took a good look at him and felt so bad that she almost wanted to hug him. The bruises were going to take a while to fade.
Poor Jungkook.
