Chapter Five: Changes
A knock on the door alerted the technopath. He sighed. Round three was his accusation. The young man went to go and open it. His older sibling walked inside. Why he decided to knock for once was beyond him. He would usually just come in or bang the door open. He didn't focus on that too much though. The sixteen year old laid across his brother's bed. His younger sibling preferred sitting.
"Why are you home?" Ryan asked.
The former jock looked at him.
"This isn't about me. But lucky for me, the power in the other building went out so they sent everyone home." Mark told him.
Ryan nodded.
"Why'd you get in a fight?" Mark questioned him.
"Cause Tedd's a jerk." Ryan answered.
"Ry, I don't want you dealing with them. The whole rivalry thing is between me and Wade." Mark spoke.
"Why can't I deal with them? I know how to fight." Ryan defended himself.
His older brother sat up.
"You can fight monsters. Tedd is human....and annoying, but there's a difference." Mark tried to explain to him.
"Least I won." Ryan mumbled.
His older sibling raised an eyebrow.
"How hard did you hit him?" Mark asked interested.
His little brother smirked a little.
"I punched, kicked, might've found the sweet spot, and crashed him into the lockers." Ryan listed off.
Mark let out a chuckle.
"Wow, no wonder you got suspended." He joked.
Ryan rolled his eyes.
"But for real man, it's okay for us to be in trouble when it comes to Mech X4. Outside of that, none of us need anything else against us. Just chill down, alright?" Mark stated more seriously.
His little brother stared at him for a bit before turning his head away. That's when he felt a freezing like sharp pain go through his body. He didn't react, not wanting to be worried about. Instead, he let his hand slide across his bed sheets. He held back a scream as he just pressed his lips together.
"Wait, why are you here? You still have school and Harris told me you have detention for skating in the hallway." Mark brought up.
"Yeah I know it's stupid. Your girlfriend gave me a ride. She has a free period and I'm ditching detention." Ryan explained to him.
"So your skipping the school day and your own punishment?" Mark asked.
Ryan glanced to the side before nodding.
"Please tell me your not gonna be Spyder 2.0. He's annoying enough as it is." Mark added in.
Ryan chuckled.
"Please, versus Spyder I don't rack up 72 detentions in one year." He replied.
"72 detentions? What the hell is wrong with him?" Mark asked.
Ryan laughed a little. His older brother took out his phone and stood up. He started to text one of his pals to see what they were up to. The young technopath was about to get a water bottle when something stopped him. His thoughts locked him in place. Suddenly, as if it all came at once, a scene took place right in front of him. It was all too familiar. The picture was clear and what happened next was nothing but a memory.
(Flashback)
"You've got nothing left! Even if you win, you have no family to go back to! Face it, you lose either way!" Tragear roared.
That was it. That moment. The very assumption that his brother, his friends, the people he cared for so much were gone. A new side was revealed to the three involved. It was something the adopted child hadn't experienced. Dealing with Harper in the woods was one thing. This...this was a whole different level. His rage reached a new height, his mind was clouded with vengeance, his heart was racing. He didn't know what to make of it, but it sure did help him.
"Y-y-y-you... a-a-a-are...n-n-never... g-g-going... t-t-to...w-win." Tragear spatted out.
The pilot had him to his throat. Him choking brought a sense of pleasure. The fifteen year old chuckled at his suffering. He was amused at the way he could die in his hands at any moment. The death of this beast would satisfy him in ways no else could understand.
"I promise you... I'll make sure you suffer. I'LL MAKE SURE YOU DON'T HARM ANYONE IN SIGHT. I'LL MAKE SURE YOU NEVER BREATHE AGAIN. AND I'LL MAKE SURE YOU DIE KNOWING MY NAME!"
(End Of Flashback)
The last part of him screaming made the pilot jump in his seat. Along with it came the surge of power showing in his eyes. However, since he didn't have a mirror, he couldn't see the difference in them. His gasp alerted his older brother immediately. He sat down beside his brother in concern. The look of fear on his face only worried him more.
"You okay?" Mark inquired.
The younger Walker brother took a deep breath and nodded.
"I think so." Ryan responded.
"Was it another vision?" Mark questioned.
Ryan nodded.
"Yeah." He answered.
"What did you see?" Mark inquired.
His younger sibling bit his lip. Honestly, he didn't want any of them to know what took place before they came. Not even Leo. It was something he needed to figure out for himself. Although, since it had to do with his abilities, it would be smart to go to the guy who gave him his powers right? But then he would ask him a bunch of questions and would want to know about what happened. He couldn't tell him that. It would make it seem like he had anger issues...ok technically it looked like anger issues. Either way, he was not going to let anyone know about this.
"Hey!" Mark shouted.
The pilot snapped out of his thoughts.
"Sorry." Ryan apologized.
The older Walker brother placed a hand on his sibling's shoulder.
"You sure your okay?" Mark queried.
Ryan took a moment to look at the floor. However, he was unaware that his eyes began to shine once again. His thoughts started barreling in at rapid speed. Luckily, they came in and then went right out. The fifteen year old closed his eyes. He sighed. Reopening them, his eyes returned to their coco brown shade. The young man faced his brother.
"Yeah...I'm good. Just tired." Ryan told him.
"Tired? You haven't been up for at least five hours yet." Mark remarked in disbelief.
Ryan shrugged as he stretched a little bit.
"Well I just fought off a jock in front of half the school and got hit in places I didn't like so...I'm guessing that might have something to do with it." He retorted.
Mark shot him a concerned expression. He watched his little brother take his shoes off. He climbed on top of his bed and got under the covers. Facing away from the door, his body became comfortable as he passed out almost instantly. The sixteen year old looked down at him. His curiosity grew in the process. This was weird. Yes he did just get out of a fight, but shouldn't of been this tired. It's not like he stayed up all night binge watching Riverdale. That only occurred once, and it was Saturday night.
Not willing to bother him any further, the former jock stood back up. He headed for the bedroom door. One hand was on the knob as it opened. The Bay City High varsity captain took one last glance at his family member. The look on his face was peaceful, but part of him knew that something wasn't right. Chewing on his lip, the sixteen year old walked away from the bed and left the room. He closed the door slowly. He turned around and put his back up against it. What is Ryan hiding?
