Tagation

Prologue: Reader, this is no common tag. This tag was invented by Silmarilz1701, who tagged me in it to my sheer delight, and it is with excitement that I enter upon it and share my answers with you. It is a tag for writers (the best kind) with none of those shoe sizes, middle names, and birth dates. So, for once, I am actually going to TAG people at the end of this. Because I want to see your answers!

1. Favorite color:

My favorite specific color is crimson red. But since this is asking for general, then it's blue.

2. Favorite word for a shade of that color:

Sapphire and azure are both up there.

3. Favorite sound:

Rain. Rain can have so many moods, angry, dreary, wild, peaceful, dreamy, sad, and even perky.

4. Describe that favorite sound by using it in a sentence:

The dark, furred clouds released their rain in a torrent of thundering sound.

5. Favorite character from your favorite fandom:

*long pause on my part*

I mean, y'all know what the fandom is. It's just, HOW DO YOU PICK A FAVORITE?

The Hobbit: Gandalf and Bilbo are tied.

Lord of the Rings: Boromir and Frodo tied (NOT the movie Frodo)

Silmarillion: Fëanor. I can't help loving the poor guy even when I'm so frustrated with him that I hit the book. He makes me think of Mordred, because Mordred has the same violent anger that lashes out without thought for consequences. They even insult people the same way. Although, to be fair, Mordred doesn't... er... draw swords on his kinsman.

Tied with him: Maedhros. He tries so hard to keep the peace and control his brothers and make everybody happy, and by the end he and Maglor are so weary and wretched it's heartbreaking.

Honorable mention: Finrod Felagund, because who could not love him. He is so wonderfully loyal and selfless and his death is one of the most painful moments for me in the whole painful Sil.

6. Favorite character from an obscure fandom:

I'll gratify nightwraith17 and pick Artham from the Wingfeather Saga. ;)

7. Favorite descriptor for beauty:

I think it might be "clear". Clear/clarity seems to convey something beyond mere surface beauty, something to reward a closer look.

8. Describe something/someone using that descriptor: The water was a clear, dark blue, deeper and quieter than the sky above, wind-ridged and glistening with light.

9. Favorite death scene you've read:

I know I gush about Rosemary Sutcliff all the time, but she writes really powerful, touching death scenes. They make one so aware of the fleeting fragility of human life, and its value, so that almost no matter who dies, you feel a sense of loss.

Top marks go to Beornwulf's in Dawn Wind. I got the book at Christmastime and I've reread that scene dozens of if not a hundred times. Beornwulf, with his wife and three young children, who has gone from being the main character's master to being his friend, almost like an older brother to him. His death comes so suddenly, and the implications of it are even worse. But my favorite part is the writing, so vivid and full of untamed life even in the midst of death. That scene is the best in the book.

10. Favorite death scene you've written(if applicable):

The award for this goes to a scene that is not published, and will not be until Sorrow and Song is completely finished. It's a one-shot piece that I haven't even written any of except the actual death scene. It's a character that none of you have met or even heard the name of yet.

But picture this: Jedediah Crayes' best friend in all the world dying. Right in front of him.

Aside from that, Finyref in A Cold Cry is what I'm most proud of. *whimpers slightly because it hurts me tooooo guys*

11. Favorite familial/platonic relationships you've read/watched:

(This question made me so happy. Familial/platonic relationships do not get enough attention. STOP ASKING ME ABOUT MY OTPs, TAGS)

For starters, the family of Incredibles. (No, I haven't seen 2 yet. Don't torture me. I want to so bad) This family is so amazing. I love most everything about The Incredibles, and one of the best things is the family dynamic. They each have their own struggles they've got to manage (except maybe Jack) and they all learn to do just a little bit better by the end. The dinner fight that Frozone interrupts? You can't get better than that. XD

The Pevensie family in the MOVIES.

Yes, this is one place where I like what the movies did better than the book. I'm not faulting or downplaying C.S. Lewis; he wasn't really writing a series to focus on the nitty-gritty of family relationships. The movie of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe simply took the seed of what was implied in the book and flowered it into some of the best sibling interaction and growth I've seen on screen. And I should know, I've got seven siblings. The squabbling, the loyalty, the problems. It's all there, and it's the reason TLWW is one my go-to rewatches.

And because I have to squeeze another Sutcliff in here(I'm sorry, I'm sorry): Marcus Flavius Aquila and Esca Cunoval from Eagle of the Ninth. These two are the best bros ever, and that's pretty much sums it all up. They both have their own scars to carry, and they help each other over so many hurdles, not even realizing that as they do they're overcoming their own. When they think they're going to die, there's nothing to cover between them. Just,

"A good hunting, brother?"

"It was a good hunting."

12. Favorite romantic relationships you've read/watched:

Faramir and Eowyn in LOTR. That is one of the best parts of Return of the King, hands down. Their sweet mini-romance slotted neatly in there for some happy character growth and fluff. (I may have unconsciously imitated that when I squeezed Jared and Cecelia into The War, Chapter 3 lol)

"And he took her in his arms and kissed her, and cared not that many saw them." {not quoted verbatim, just from memory}

*sprays hearts everywhere*

Mara and Sheftu in the book Mara, Daughter of the Nile by Eloise Jarvis McGraw. I cannot express how much I recommend this book. It is suspense, it is loyalty, it is betrayal, it is intrigue, it is the most masterfully accomplished romance conceivable. Her characters are the kind that jump off the page and live.

Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy, in both book and movie(BBC version!). SHIP SHIP SHIP 'nuff said.

aaaaand finally General Baurhin and Princess/Queen Lathwena from the doll movie put together by my sisters, Under Cloud. I had nothing to do with the creation of this, except music-wise, so I consider this ship a valid submission. XD

13. Favorite familial/platonic relationships you've written(if applicable):

Oh, I have SO MANY.

Jeddy lad/Mordred boy for one. They are so good for each other it's incredible, adorable, and hilarious.

Mordred and Fenris, and actually the whole Kenhelm trio. They are some of the characters nearest and dearest to my heart, so real and complementary in their strengths and weaknesses to one another.

Finley Rhodes and Dunstan Murray. They figure only as a secondary role in The War, but I've done so much with the two of them that can never squeeze into the already monstrous book. XD I've traced the two of them through their years of rivalry, past their reconciliation, and through their decades of friendship until the two of them are old and grey, separated by distance, espoused to beautiful women (sisters, in fact) and just... gahhhh I would write a book all on them if I could.

The Segelas family. It's amazing, when I think how little-developed they were as a unit, what they became over the writing of The Village. Peony, sensible yet more easily emotional, a social butterfly and an older sister who can still kick up her heels and have fun once in awhile. Fiona, the intuitive, quiet girl who is sensitive to teasing and blushes easily, who lights up the room when she's at her ease. Marcus, the darling and unspeakably adorable youngest, who as a youngest is a little irresponsible and hasn't learned quite how and when to hold his tongue, especially when it comes to teasing his sisters. And Bardrick, the oldest, who has all these innumerable quirks that revealed themselves one by one as I shook my head in bewilderment.

And finally, Mordred and a character that will appear in Sorrow and Song. This is one of my favorite friendships of all time. Written or read or watched. Real life or fiction. Mordred and Berethar are the David and Jonathan of Legea, and I can. NOT. WAIT to start writing them again.

14. Favorite romantic relationships you've written(if applicable):

Easier to pick from these... I have a lot fewer, hehe. And fewer still that I really, really love.

Fred and Fiona (do I hear an "of course"?) How could I not pick them? I've probably written more Friona-based material than any other romance(so far, yes, that will change). They even have a SHIP NAME gifted to me by readers, lol.

Holwena/Riharis in Flare in the Darkness. These two got paired almost out of nowhere, and I confess I loved writing them. Arranged marriages are an extremely fascinating dynamic to explore, and once I got them past their hurdles they ended up being just about the sweetest couple ever(okay, Fred and Fiona top them by a little).

And finally, Mordred/Lethira. You guys have seen glimpses in my character-interview-tags, but Mordred is what MAKES THE SHIP. He is so wonderfully, irrepressibly open and passionate, so over his head in love that half the time I'm grinning cheesily and half the time I'm laughing at him outright. Those two are just LIFE <333

15. Favorite time of day to describe and write about OR experience:

Probably sunrise for both. As I thought back on my writing, there's no time more challenging and breathtaking for me than trying to capture the glory of sunrise, and experiencing it is even more a thrill. Though... it sure hasn't happened lately *sunrise right now is around 5 a.m. and I am not going to get up that early*

16. Describe and write about said time of day:

The sun's first beams shot across the air, clean and new and filled with a sleepy haze, sparking every grass-tip in the field with a myriad fierce, sharp pin-pricks of light.

17. Describe a scene with these three photos you have been given, or write a 5+ sentence flash fic about the three. The next person must do three of your choice.

Silz's pictures were:

A location:

A person:

And a random third, which my computer won't let me copy. You can see it by going to Silz's random book and the part labelled "Taser Tag".

Here gooooeeessss

***

She kicked her heels in the snow and swept it about with her hands, laughing at the sheer abundance of it. She leapt up into a tree and swung down unafraid to tumble headlong into the cold, soft powder. She drank in the sight of the arching branches, laden with their fluffy, delicate coat of white.

She forgot care and peril, pushed it far, far away; but she could not do that forever.

With sober face and hands now stilled and grave she tunneled and built a shelter from the yielding snow, and lit a fire. Its flames leaped high and mesmerizing, and her narrow, bright eyes drooped.

Outcast, spoke her own voice out of the fire in bitterness. Exile.

You chose your exile.

And it was not to herself she had spoken, she realized, but to the other voice that now answered. She was small and weakened in its presence. She was afraid -- I fear nothing! she cried in defiant anger. She feared nothing, she, the daughter of darkness, toil, and tears. I have feared nothing and I have bowed to nothing.

The silence answered her.

Will I return? she asked meekly, humbled against her will by the quiet, terrible thing that refused to answer her according to her folly, and thus rendered from her an admission of the truth.

The flames opened up before her, and rolled away to show a dark place and green, foul light that touched upon a misshapen, moving thing and the eerie gleam of eyes.

It is not for you to know that, Lath-estaeër. You were chosen for other things. This is your doom; go now and pursue it.

Where is it? she questioned. And what is it?

Search north, in Edevila, came the clear response.

Still was she frustrated, yet her frustration was also quelled in the overwhelming quietude of the voice. Is this a punishment? she asked.

Your exile is that already, and you have brought it upon yourself. A doom is not a punishment. You were chosen for a reason; bear yourself well.

The fire quieted before her, and she woke, and the voice did not return again.

Okay so that went a little longer than expected. Probably longer than it's supposed to be. XD And of course it ended up being Legea because EVERYTHING ENDS UP BEING LEGEA.

Now, here is where I am supposed to attach my own pictures for YOU to write your flash fic/description with. Unfortunately, my computer has decide to QUIT loading pictures. *groan* Use the ones Silz gave, I guess.
