'Since the days held captive in the dungeons of Morgoth, any memory of the beauty and brightness of the days in Valinor seemed like a distant dream, half-forgotten. But when she heard Finrod speak of them, they seemed at once real and alive; she felt that she only had to stretch forth her hand and touch the leaves of Laurelin.' Fading Light follows, for the most part, the tale of The Silmarillion by J.R.R. A year before the time The Hobbit is supposed to take place, Elven-King Thranduil and his son Legolas as well as companions from Mirkwood come to Lothlóthrien. During their stay there, Thranduil and Legolas meet the youngest daughter of Lord Elrond, Celebwen. She was the last child Elrond and his wife had before she left for the Undying Lands. Celebwen, who looks more like Galadriel than her own mother, quickly wins the heart of the Elven prince, but many years pass before he meets her again in Rivendell. By this time, Celebwen has become an expert at spying many of their enemies as well as looking after the safety of friends and brings her information to her father who circles the news to other Elven Kingdoms. After the Fellowship leaves Rivendell, Celebwen travels with them to bring news to Lord Celeborn and Lady Galadriel. Owing to Gandalf's unseen death, Galadriel decides to send Celebwen along with the Fellowship, completing the nine members once more. But with the Breaking of the Fellowship and it's members scattered, Celebwen tries her uttermost to bring them back together again. And so the hopes and dreams of some of the members become second-place as the more important need of destroying the Ring takes center focus. Only time will tell what happens next. The story is about a survivor of an orc invasion, Déorhild, who comes to Eodoras to seek help from King Théoden. However, due to her strange story and backround, no one really trusts her except for Éowyn and Éomer. Also, no one is really close to her because of her forbidding personality which is a result of her childhood. But unknown to everyone else, (except those that have their suspicions) Déorhild is not who she seems. Trying to keep her true identity hidden from prying eyes, Déorhild is very secretive. Éowyn still holds herself somewhat distant, but Éomer seeks a closer relationship with Déorhild, who for awhile, turns him coldly down. When Déorhild finally realizes that she loves Éomer, it is too late, for Éomer has along with the Rohirrim been exiled from Eodoras. So Déorhild embarks on a mission, to not only revenge those of her village who died, but to find Éomer and tell him of her true feelings for him before it's too late and he's dead. Yet both Éomer and Déorhild are caught up in a event which is greater than any of them have imagined, a war in which lies the fate of all Middle Earth.
