Prologue 2

Somewhere in the heart of Asia...
A luxurious mansion was adorned with blush-pink roses, white lilies, and an array of elegant blooms. The decorations revealed that a wedding celebration was about to take place.
Inside one of its lavishly decorated rooms, a young woman of twenty-three sat before her dressing table mirror. Her heart raced with anticipation as she waited for her brother to arrive and escort her down the aisle.
She looked ethereal in her off-the-shoulder, shimmering white gown-like an angel ready to embrace her destiny. Though she wished she could see herself in her bridal attire just once, her heart brimmed with joy. In a few minutes, she would marry the man of her dreams.
But her joy was shattered the moment a maid entered, holding a phone with trembling hands.
"Ms. Erika Carter? Daughter of Mr. Michael Carter? I am the head nurse at St. Francis Hospital," a soft voice spoke on the other end. Erika's chest tightened; her instincts warned that something was wrong.
"Yes..." she answered, her voice barely a whisper.
The nurse continued gently, "I'm sorry to inform you, ma'am, that earlier this morning there was a severe accident involving two individuals. One passed away at the scene, while the other is in critical condition in intensive care. We found this number in one of their wallets. It appears you are the next of kin. We need you at the hospital immediately to complete the formalities."
For a moment, Erika couldn't move, couldn't breathe. The phone trembled in her hands, her mind numb with fear.
"Hello? Ma'am?" the nurse prompted.
"I... I'll be there soon," she stuttered at last, forcing the words out.
Placing the phone down, Erika fought back the rising panic. Her palms were wet with sweat, her forehead burning with anxiety. With trembling hands, she reached into her drawer and took out her black glasses and her white cane-the tools she had long relied upon.
"Call the driver. Take me to St. Francis Hospital," she ordered her maid quietly.
Within minutes, an Audi A6 was prepared outside. Erika descended the stairs, escorted by her maid, and was driven at full speed through the city. Every minute stretched into eternity.
At the hospital, she was led into a private lounge. The wait felt unbearable until finally, a deep male voice broke the silence.
"Ms. Erika Carter?"
"Yes-it's me," Erika answered desperately.
The man studied the young bride before him-her wedding gown, her dark glasses, her trembling hands clutching the cane. His heart sank, for he knew he was about to destroy what little strength remained in her.
"I'm so sorry," he spoke gently. "Your fiancé, Mr. Harris, did not survive. He had already passed when the ambulance arrived. Your brother, Mr. Carter, is in intensive care, but his condition is critical. His chances are very slim. We're doing everything we can."
"No... no! Please, no!" Erika screamed, her voice breaking. The room spun around her, her legs buckled, and she stumbled. The doctor caught her just in time and guided her gently to a sofa.
"Would you like some water?" he asked softly.
She shook her head, unable to speak through her grief. Tears streamed down her cheeks in silence.
After a pause, the doctor continued with hesitation: "There is something else I must inform you of. In his will, your fiancé expressed his wish for his corneas to be donated to you. All the necessary tests were completed beforehand. We understand this is a painful time, but it was his last wish, and the operation must be performed immediately. Your consent is needed."
The words cut through her like ice. Even shattered by loss, Erika nodded faintly, silently giving her consent. Her sobs filled the lounge as she signed the papers, clutching the memory of her beloved with every trembling stroke of her pen.
The surgery was successful. Days later, Erika opened her eyes and saw the world once again-for the very first time in years. But with that gift of vision came devastating news-her brother, too, had passed away despite desperate attempts to save him.
At his funeral, standing under the gray sky, Erika wept not just as a sister, but as a woman who had lost everything precious in a single day.
Weeks passed. Slowly, she regained her composure and assumed responsibility for her late brother's company. But she soon realized something was terribly wrong. The business was collapsing, shares had plummeted, and betrayal seemed to lurk in every corner.
Determined, Erika began her investigation. And what she uncovered shook her to her core. The "accident" that killed her fiancé and brother was no accident at all-it was murder, planned with ruthless precision... by someone close to her.
Though fate had plunged her into darkness once before, she knew there was no turning back. Erika was determined to uncover the truth, but before she could do so, she found herself trapped in a web of shadows with no way out-except the one fate had written for her.
